New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I just saw a message on my bottom bar which read: “Curse scanning for updates”. Hope that’s a good sign?

Also, IIRC from the days I had a dish. There’s a channel dedicated to gaming called G4, yes? Do they ever discuss WoW on there?

Q

Further changes I may have noticed - I haven’t been to the Barrens in awhile, but aside from more frequent earthquakes the oases may be expanding slightly and there were trees whose branches overhung the Southern Gold Road that I don’t remember from before. Also wanted to see if the incipient Big Crack was starting to show. I’m assuming it will be along that dry stream bed that separates the northern and southern Barrens, but who knows?

Yep, known issue, happening to just about everyone who tries to use a Mage table.

There’s a small add-on for that - if it runs on my computer (and it does) it will run on anyone’s. It’s called EasySerum. Get it, it makes that quest much less painful.

Thanks, Broomie, I installed it. That thing was giving me fits on my dailies!

Q

You’re welcome - I very seldom use add-ons due to the age of my computer, but that was a welcome exception.

Meanwhile - the new Cataclysm cinematic is out:

Probably contains spoilers - duh!

And here’s the TV ad version

I. Can’t. Wait.

(Seriously - WoW is about my only luxury these days.)

I kind of hope that’s not Deathwing’s in-game voice. It sounds too much like Christian-Bale-as-Batman-trying-too-hard.

Ummmm, Broomie?

Please check me on this one, but I think this was an error:

He sent me for pulverized gargoyle eggs and easy serum said: right side, case 1 row 2 item 4, but the eggs were on row 4.

I was pretty tired when I tried again, so I may be wrong, but after I failed, I went back and looked to make sure.

Thanks

Q

Some items are in more than one place.

Yeah, but this item wasn’t where the cue said it should be.

Again, sorry if I’m wrong about that, okay?

One more session of dailies/grinding, and I’ll hit exalted with Sha’tari Skyguard. That wasn’t as bad as I thought.

Also visited the PvP vendor and upgraded my shield to the 270 level caster shield, and my priest did the same with his offhand item and wand. Lost some +crit in both pieces, but major upgrades in Int, Spirit and Haste more than made up for it. Made me think about getting back into some BGs to upgrade the rest of my PvP gear. I haven’t done any battlegrounds in a very long time.

That is a terribly annoying daily quest. I had done it enough times when Wrath first came out to have it all memorized after about a week, at which point I sat back and giggled whenever one of my guildmates complained about failing it. Later on, Carbonite (add-on) added a feature to help with that quest, wherein it displays an arrow to the cabinet along with which shelf the ingredient is on, along with more specific text to locate the ingredient (ie - shelf 2, item 3). Another reason I loves me some Carbonite.

Fun trivia: In the Icecrown Citadel raid, one of Finkel’s comrades states something to the effect that he’d rather die fighting the Lich King than spend another day collecting reagents for that madman

Er… there ARE one or two errors in the add-on. There’s one item it says is on one side but is actually on the other. Forget which one that is. But most of the time it works fine.

Also, gotta watch out for things like wasp wings, which are so tiny you might miss them.

Hallow’s End event has started!

Protip: When you run the dungeon to kill Headless Horseman, don’t mouse over his pumpkin shrine – let some other party member do it. If you experience the “cog wheel of death” and crash, you’ll miss out on all the fun :stuck_out_tongue:

Protip #2: If your Treat Bag is empty, it’s because currency is no longer in emblem form. You get 24 JP from opening the bag, it just means you don’t get any of the extra random treats, not that you received nothing at all.

Aha! The last holiday to go before I get Long Strange Trip! Also the most annoying, what with all the masks and crap.

Hmm, it’s time for me to decide if I really want Long, Strange Trip on my alt (my main got it a long time ago). He did all the Brewfest achieves but that was an easy one.

I don’t think I’ll bother. Daily HH runs and casual trick-or-treating will have to be good enough for him.

I have to admit I’m really not looking forward to this holiday, especially after rereading the guide to getting all the achievements, but I have all the other holidays so it seems a shame to stop now. Plus this way I don’t have to cough up 5000 gold for 310% flying.

Mask collection isn’t required for the title, just FYI.

Yeah, but the costumes and pumpkin heads are. It’s a small mercy that the pumpkin heads only want race and not some weird race/class combo.

I have a level 61 mage that I hardly ever play, but I logged into him yesterday to go ahead and redo his talents. I spec’d him out as a Frost mage, since that’s what he’d been pre-patch. After respecing, I headed back to Hellfire Peninsula to try him out.

It seems that most of the mage spells now use a lot less mana than they used to. Pre-patch I seem to recall having to sit down and drink (or evoke) every few mobs. (not that I remember very well, haven’t touched the mage in many months) But post-patch I can just keep going and going, killing mob after mob, and my mana bar hardly drops at all. That might make the mage worth playing again, although they’re still too squishy for my taste.

I’m not sure how you were specced before, but I’ve got a level 65 mage and it’s been really hard for me to drain all my mana for a long time. Did you take the Replenishment talent before? It makes a huge difference, and since Frost spec is basically only needs Summon Water Elemental and Frostbolt for 99% of solo encounters, you’re not screaming through a ton of mana.

I suppose if you used the tactic of gathering enemies, freezing them, and Blizzarding them down, that’ll suck up the mana quick.

Well this looks good. [The Masquerade] no longer requires getting transformed by a party member. No more rigamarole of forming parties with random people just to trade wand zaps - you can just do it.
