New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I was in Org, and TB was being invaded at the same time – whether it’s simultaneous across all cities or if it was just a coincidence I didn’t get a chance to check out, as I was having fun participating at the time. Even so, it would still annoy me to have to travel across to another continent to maybe get the chance of using a city, putting my hearth on CD or waiting on a zeppelin.

Thanks, SFG…I had the impression on Curse’s site that they we not going to do it anymore.

I was hit-capped on my Mage before the patch due to talents, but after, I found myself without those talents and thus down to about 11% hit. Meanwhile my boomkin is up around 29% hit!

Okay, so this freeze-up thing has to do with mousing over things that turn your cursor into that cogwheel thing, in dungeons and battlegrounds. Hence, the problem with mage tables and the HH’s pumpkin.

Thanks to a poster on the official forums, there is a solution: Turn off tooltips.

Use this script to turn them off:

/script GameTooltip.Temphide = function() GameTooltip:Hide() end;  GameTooltip:SetScript("OnShow", GameTooltip.Temphide);

And this script to turn them back on:

/script GameTooltip:SetScript("OnShow", GameTooltip.Show);

Worked for me!

The trouble with aggregate sites like Curse and WoW-Interface is they’re sometimes slow to update compared to the author’s own homepage. For big things like Auctioneer I find it more helpful to skip Curse entirely.

Same here on my lock; they got rid of Suppression, so I found myself 3% below the hit cap on my preferred gear. Fortunately, my new gear (the 4 piece T10 set) had more than enough hit. With some creative reforging that converted hit to haste, I was able to get only 8 points over the hit cap. And, according to sims, this new set is better, though I hate that it has less haste; I feel like I’m mired in quicksand.

Still, though, God, I love reforging.

Of course, I screwed up my hand–bad sprain at the bottom joint of my pinkie–the same day that the new patch came out, so I haven’t been able to raid yet on my lock (too many of my keybinds require Ctrl or Shift, and I don’t want to fuck up my bars for a temporary injury), so I don’t know how that translates.

I also noticed that a lot of talents on my baby hunter come later or not at all; I’m really gonna miss Eyes of the Beast.

Rik, that tooltip macro worked like a charm. Thanks!

One thing I found really enlightening wrt reforging/regemming on my priest was that you want to have comparative amounts of haste/crit. The analogy that was used was a rectangle and increasing one side to increase the total surface area (iow, haste x crit = throughput, I think). Finally something I can eyeball! I ended up picking up 4pc T10 and reforging a bunch of crit to haste, and only one or two pieces to mastery since it looks like mastery is kind of meh for holy priests until Cat.

I’m really liking the Chakra thing so far – I redid most of my macros and keybinds to take advantage of my new personal light show. However, one weird issue is that you need to have the non-macro version of Holy Word: Chastise stuck on your bars somewhere before the macroed version of HW:C will work. You don’t want to know how much time I spent on trying to figure *that * out until I found a healy blog that explained that tidbit. It looks like Chakra: Renew is definitely going to be the most used chakra for me until Cat since Heal and PoH chew through mana way too fast for the result to be worth it.

Then I got to test Chakra healing out in Naxx when we were doing the weekly and going for lolachieves (Plague, Spider, and KT/Sapph) while we were there. Unfortunately, we got Safety Dance and Spore Loser while I was on my priest and not my main/achieve toon. Sigh - isn’t that always how it goes?

A question I have is: Why do priests not have a clearly labelled “Cloth Specialization” whereas my hunter has “Mail Specialization”? The nearest I could find after perusing the trainer and my spellbook was that Arhiatlel had an “Armor Something” that said I could use cloth, then a passive talent called “Mysticism” which increased my int by 5%.

**Rik **-- thanks for that tip! I’ll have to pass it along since that bit two of my guildies in the ass when we were grouping for HH. I got to be the one who clicked since I didn’t crash. Oy. Also, we’ll get empty bags now since JP isn’t actually a lootable item.

Because you can’t wear anything else on your priest? The purpose of the specialization was to encourage (read: basically require) mail classes to wear mail, not downgrade to leather. More particularly for your priest - to keep holy Pallys from wanting all of your cloth gear. They just put the bonus on that “Mysticism” passive, since giving you a bonus for wearing the only thing you’re allowed to wear would be a bit clunky.

Thanks lizardling. I think I read the same rectangle-thingy.

And :smack: I think I’m forgetting to use Chastise. I’ll have to make sure that’s on my bar.

That makes sense. I think the part that confused me was that I kept seeing posts elsewhere talking about “Cloth Specialization” like it actually existed. So I was looking for the exact name rather than something called “Mysticism”.

Healing, Chakra Style:

Chastise has like a 12 second CD, so for HW:R what I do is smash that for a tank then go off and PoM/renew the melee/anyone taking damage. Then top people off with FH or COH. Then go back and hit HW:R again. Switching Chakras midfight to Heal or Sanc is somewhat sticky due to the time required so you’d have to be very aware of incoming damage. I ended up not switching out of Renew even during the Abom achieve on KT and just did straight up POHs etc.

One thing I didn’t like is that HW:Sanc requires you to also click a targeting reticle on the ground. And there’s no ground effect to show for it either although that is very likely a bug.

In Naxx I got to hit HW:C on the boss once or twice too (Spore Loser) although I’d be a bit leery of doing it on more intensive fights since that means a HW:R that you won’t have until the next CD.

Note: My haste is currently under the preferred amount (I’m going to drop some int gemming for haste) so I tend to save PoHs until they’re really necessary and depend instead on renews/FH/PoM/CoH.

I usually shield, renew, PoM the tank right at the pull. Then Chakra, renew everyone, refresh PoM/shield/renew as needed. In heroics that’s all that’s needed. Actually that’s usually overkill – if we have a pack of trash my rotation is usually Holy Nova, Holy Nova, Holy Nova… Mana has not been a problem.

But that’s in five-mans; I haven’t raided since the patch. Because my mana has been literally inexhaustive, if I were raid healing I would probably toss out PoM as needed but probably use CoH on every cooldown (with chakra) and PoH inbetween.

Disc priest in my other ICC10 was putting out 20k flash heals. He was literally begging people to stand in death and decay and stay in the middle of the raid with dark reckoning, he was so bored.

So was he doing smite smite smite archangel heal or some other rotation? (My new computer is in a box in the office. The damn desk that it is supposed to sit on, since I’m going from a laptop to a desktop, is still waiting for the guy offa craigslist who “helpfully” offered to cart it to my place to actually do so.)

I assume so, I did see him pop the wings a few times. And he gave the raid leader a light case of heartburn by constantly switching his role icon to dps :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked this footnote that this one poster uses on EJ…just wanted to share:

That’s the kind of situation where I’ll be happy there’s no more tree form.

I still think they should have done the same for Balance, but oh well.

Is this a macro(s) you make and use before queuing into the HH instance?

You can, or else just C&P it into your chat box if you use a chat program that lets you do it. You can type it in manually, but who would want to?

Speaking personally, I wish we had *more *world events like this. Without them, what’s the point of playing an MMO? If you want a static world that you have 100% control over, why not play a single-player or regular multiplayer RPG?

I do all of my updates through the Curse client, so I don’t know what’s been posted there. It’s possible that they won’t continue to support the addon going forward, but for now, the Preview version works, so I’m gonna run with it.

It’s to encourage people with a choice to stay in their native armor class. Because your native armor class on your Priest, Cloth, is the only one she can wear, the benefit is baked into the class. Honestly, I don’t know why they didn’t just make it a separate talent like they did for the classes that can wear Leather and higher; it would have reduced a lot of this type of confusion.

Masochists? Show-offs? The technically illiterate?
