New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I would put up all my shields before battle, but after that, I’d only maintain them if I had a second to. I take a very offensive approach - when you first talk to them and they walk to the middle of the ring, charge them immediately. Then shield break. If they are really far away from you, charge them - if not, just try to get far enough away to shield break. Focus on walloping them, you don’t lose anything if they get you first (your equipment doesn’t take a durability hit) so I take chances.

Quasi, when you approach him to offer the challenge, approach from outside the ring, not inside. He’ll move away from you depending on where you’re standing, so if you come to him from inside the ring to offer the challenge, he’ll move out of the ring. If you approach him from outside the ring, he’ll move into it.

Actually that is incorrect as of this patch. What you want is “cold weather flying” and it’s available to any char at level 68 now, it costs 500g minus rep discount which would make it 475 for you.

When it got to the point that we couldn’t keep our raid members alive long enough to get to a raid THAT was over the top - and it wasn’t a matter of “single-player RPG”. Don’t know how YOUR server was, but on mine it wasn’t just a matter of the cities getting hit, every damn flight point seemed overrun. Even if you got away from the zombies you couldn’t do anything - no repair, no resupply, no getting your mail, nothing. It brought the game to a halt, except, of course, for the PvP bullies.

… and timed out:

And then he did with the lance what he usually does with the sword:

It was somethin’ to see.

Thanks for the advice y’all. I’ll try it again tomorrow, first thing, when I’m fresh and not so tired and nervous from trying to do 2-3 things at the same time.

Oh yeah. About challenging the valiant outside the ring? Once I tell the kid I’m ready to fight, I’d better move right then to go outside the ring, right?

Hmmm…wait. The valiant is the one you have to have the squire summon, isn’t it? Approaching from outside the ring won’t work on that one, because YOU aren’t the one who challenges him, directly. You have to manage him while you’re fighting, I think…keep luring him or herding him into the center of the ring.

No, valiants you go up to and challenge. Aspirants have the squire do it.

On another note, I’m all geared up in T9 right now and getting ready to move on to T10, but I’m concerned because the chest pieces will give me -50 Haste Rating. Isn’t Haste one of the most important things for hunters? Or will the increases in Agility and other stats offset it?

You face them and then push your hotkey.

Okay. Yes, I tell the squire I’m ready to fight and he summons my opponent, a valiant who comes riding up and starts fighting.

I don’t know about what kushiel wrote, but there’s a choice on my control bar which says “Duel”, and I think this means that once I pass the asiprant’s challenge, I can then challenge any other valiant to a duel.

Right?

Anyway, this guy’s had the upper hand on me every time I’ve tried. He loses no health and all I’ve been able to do is keep my shield green by continually clicking on it. It doesn’t STAY green, okay, because I do take hits and when that happens I lose the green and go to yellow or red. (But I can usually get it back up to green).

Again, the only thing I’ve been able to improve on is making the joust last a little longer each time.

Thanks

I spent my evening doing all the candy bucket quests. They pay 6 gold per bucket, and 15 buckets or so per continent. Think they also give experience for those under 80. All you do is fly around to the inns, and click the candy bucket.

Also did HH, but got only justice points. Had horrible luck trick or treating—tricked every time, no wands at all tonight.

Yeah, I’ve been using my mouse to move and steer, chasing these people around in circles while mashing my keys, but I don’t seem to even be hitting them; meanwhile, they’re slaughtering me.

Smartass, “L2P noob” answers really don’t add anything helpful to the conversation, [epithet deleted since this isn’t the Pit]. Save it for the official forums.

Like warriors do you Quas?

I think that might be part of it – by saying “chasing” it sounds like you’re letting them herd you. Silly question: Are you using your stuns and interrupts? They have diminishing returns but the first HoJ or Rebuke should be enough to give you a second or two to whittle down a bit of health. And if you can do it from behind or the side to force them to move when they recover, so much the better.

Either that and/or you’re going up against people kitted out in full Wrathful. I’ve heard tell of people stacking as much as 80% damage reduction. (There is no longer a 1400 cap on resil post patch afaict)

Yes, they do give experience to the under-80 toons.

Oh really? Is the vendor in Northrend only? I stopped by the flying trainer in Thrallmar (since it’s my highest rep area) and he only had artisan flying available.
As an aside, what’s with the WotLK crowds? I’ve had more negative experiences with the dungeon finder since hitting 70 than in the last 55 levels.

I’ve been yelled at half a dozen times for running in frost stance. Evidently people aren’t aware that it’s now the dps stance.

I’ve been yelled at for pulling aggro after one hit. Which, I understand, is something you blame the DPS for, but I’d suggest in the alternative that if I’m pulling aggro in one hit after waiting for the tank to throw his aoe taunt, the problem isn’t mine. (I also understand tanking has been a bit borked by 4.0.1)

Although, maybe it is. Either way, it’s been frustrating.

Yes. Dalaran (no faction discount) or your faction headquarters (Valiance Keep or Warsong Hold), which do have the faction discount.

I’m 770 points of Exalted rep with Sha’tari Skyguard, but had to stop for the BDL raid. And I can’t play tonight. :frowning: At least on Wednesday I just need to do the two dailies and I’m done. Then, I guess, I’ll hit take my pally around to get the candy baskets. He doesn’t have a whole lot of flight points in Azeroth so it will probably take a while. He did get the flying broom from the HH yesterday though, so that was fun.

Speaking of the guild, we got kind of a late start on ICC10 but we raced through the first four bosses easily. Then we decided to go for the Blood Council; we only had time for two tries and although we got really close it was getting late a folks had to drop. I’m sure we’ll get them next week.

Alright then, I’ll take a gander this evening. Thanks!

Maybe you need to be more specific on what your problem is, since that’s the fundamental method of hitting people with your abilities. GIGO.

Are you losing range in the chase? Are you always behind the person? Are you out of mana? Are you getting insta-gibbed? Are you getting peeled? If you’re landing auto-attacks, you have range and you have facing. Your question doesn’t make any sense.

If you’re playing in BGs, Rik, are you using any PVP gear? Your opponents almost assuredly are, and PVP-geared players are hard to kill. If it seems like you’re just not doing any damage to them while they’re crushing you, that might well be the case, because PVP gear has resilience on it which reduces damage taken.
