New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Pretty good night for me. Completed the achievements for my “the Hallowed” title, got a full clear VoA 10.

For those interested, you can buy weighted jack o lanterns for the Check Your Head achievement on the AH. They were selling for about 95 silver each.

Lots of achievement seekers camping the horde part of Dal. Any hordie coming into the city is getting a pumpkin head as soon as they come in range. It lasts an hour, but I generally click it off when someone gets me, so someone else can get credit sooner.

Also, I got several wand zaps for the achievement for free from people that finished the achievement. Tomorrow, I’ll be spreading the gamer karma by giving away whatever charges I have left. Think I have Bat and something else.

Have noted…and dispensed summary justice to, several Hordie asswipes killing the flight master in Southshore and Ratchet. One guy did it in front of three ally 80s, then gave us the old " /rude". Without saying a word, all three of us flagged and smoked him. The jerkoff then logged to an Ally alt to berate one of the other guys in on the kill.

None on the AH on my server. :frowning:

Bummer. I’m on Elune. Pretty much everything sellable is on the AH most of the time, it seems. Might catch some on your server later in the event.

Speaking of the AH: Since I don’t have auctioneer yet, before I put anything up for auction, I browse that item (such as borean leather) to see what the going prices are and then I undercut them.

Well, jesus, prices are ALL OVER THE PLACE! Some guy is selling a stack of 20 b. leather for over 100 g’s, when right below his price, someone else has priced theirs much more reasonably.

I understand about the market and demand and stuff, and how a lot of one item being available will drive pricing down, and that’s not a problem - just that these people think they can get that kind of money for any particular item.

2 weeks ago I was selling my 20-stacks of b. leather for 10g to bid and 13g to buy now. Tonight I looked at all the prices, and the lowest was 3 and 4, so I kinda averaged it all and put mine at 5 and 6 this go round.

Some of the herbs I’m collecting are also priced way up there…

Just an observation.

Thanks

Q

Eh. I only need two more races, so one more day of putting out fires will give me that achi.

Oh yeah, jayjay? I finished the water brigade quest, got a pumpkin, opened it and became invisible for an hour because I helped save the village.

And one more question about herbalism:

If, while I’m picking a plant, I get attacked and have to kill the animal/enemy in order to continue, should I still loot, even though they’re such a low level that all it takes is one blow from the sword?

Thanks

Q

Erg. I suppose I’d better inspect my mage’s current gemming, then. Is INT getting converted into SP (more than before, anyway?)
G.N.E.R.D.-ed up my paladin and hit the random BG thing, and between getting in on the very tail-end of SotA and then an AB, I got her to 31/50 for the achievement (26HKs in AB alone). I have to say I like AB much better than WSG. I think it’s because there are more options as far as “jobs to do”. So in AB I focus on defending captured objectives. Only one death really annoyed me - I helped capture the mine, and then everybody else took off and left me standing there by myself. 30 seconds later five Horde descended on my lonely butt.

Anyway, 19 more HKs and a Hallowed Helm, and I’ll have the title

I got my GNERD HKs in Alterac Valley tonight too. Really very easy. I went in as Resto, seated myself at the rear of the brawl on the Alliance’s bridge, and started healing like crazy. I racked up the HK credits in no time flat.

It’s so much fun healing Alterac Valley. The other side simply doesn’t expect it, and it makes a big goddamn difference. I was only #3 in total healing done, #2 for the Horde side, but I like to think I was key to holding the bridge and keeping the Alliance locked up in their base until they ran out of reinforcements. If I and the other healer hadn’t been there, the Alliance would have pushed us off easily. As it was, we kept the Horde on the bridge alive just long enough for the rest of the raid to get back, so we had an impenetrable wall.

Bonus: Lacking tree form, it is a LOT harder to spot druid healers in a PVP battle now. At least, it’s a bonus for the druid healer.

A side benefit of SP converting to Int: freaking high mana pools. I was Rejuving and Swiftmending nonstop and I never hurt for mana. I’m sure that’ll change by level 85, but for now it’s just fun.

For FH: It was in my secondary talents: 1 unspent point.

Sorry

I’m having trouble with the “savior of hallow’s end” achievement. I picked up the quest from the matron to out the practice fires, and just as I did, HH came and attacked. So I was putting out “real” fires, but as I did I was getting credit for the five I needed for the intro quest. I turned that in, along with the “smash the pumpkin” one from HH’s head. But I didn’t get the daily quest to protect the village. That was on Monday – I went back last night and there was no quest to pick up. What have I missed? I’ve done this on at least two other toons but I don’t remember having this problem.

I think the daily only pops up when HH is about to show? I’m not sure.

I enjoyed the heck out of this for the opposite reason: I got my entire achievement in one HV run, mostly on the basis of sneaking around with Ghost Wolf and getting 20+ killing blows on silly Horde healers/mages/locks who weren’t watching their backs.

Weirdly, despite me being in the thick of the fight at every opportunity, as well as blasting the pack of Alliance with Hurricane at every chance, I only got targeted and killed 4 times through the whole match. Like I said, the lack of tree form is good camouflage. :stuck_out_tongue:

The real fires quest is only given when the HH is available to be triggered (or while the event is taking place). You may have to wait a few minutes until his pumpkin head despawns before it becomes available again.

I happened onto the event in Brill at the same time Skammer did. I had to pause my fire-fighting to turn in the intro quest, after which when the fight ended there was the daily on the pumpkin the HH shoots out when he dies. That’s the one I turned in for the achievement. (So you don’t get the quest before the event)

Thanks! That’s the first time I had to use the repair utility. It worked great. Now the game is playable, hurray!
No I just gotta figure out how to heal with my new paladin talents. I ran voa 25m last night and found myself gasping for mana. The new spells seem great, but they don’t have nearly the same power as my old holy light. I’ll have to go read up on how to keep these tanks healed without going out of mana.
I haven’t tried my tankadin yet. I somehow always avoid testing a new spec out after patches, but I always found after I did, everything was fine and worked great.

Sindragosa’s Flawless Fang! Finally, my BIS trinket dropped while I was in the raid. Now if I could just get the damned shield off BQL to make an appearance…

I don’t even want to think about how much money I’ve spent so far reforging. My *cheapest *pieces are something like 10g each, and I don’t think there’s a single item I haven’t reforged that I could across two full sets, plus a number of alternate pieces. Some I’ve done more than once, as I’ve played around with various armor sets.

Which brings me to point #2: I finally realized how badly Blizzard fucked bonus armor. Without, of course, giving us the stats back in any other form. Awesome. Great. Makes me so happy I was a tank doing exactly what your mechanics encouraged me to do, i.e., stacking armor. I also took the time yesterday to clear out the gear from my Unhittable and Block sets, since both of those are now defunct. On the plus side, it freed up pretty much an entire bag for me to stuff with goodies from my bank, so now I have lots of on-use items and trinkets to play with while I’m out and about.

While threat is still iffy in the first few seconds of a pull, before Vengeance starts stacking, I was getting ridiculous TPS numbers further in. After raid last night, I moved a handful of points around to something that will hopefully bring my single-target threat up even more, at the expense of some AOE threat and a bit of healing. Which brings me to…

A Very Special Message for Raiding DPS:

Prior to this patch, you were spoiled. Tanks were able to front-load threat. We had more taunts/fixates. Guess what: you can’t unload out of the gate anymore. If the tank asks you for a couple of GCDs to establish aggro and start stacking their threat-increasing buffs, sit on your fucking hands. You have tools to manage your threat; use them. If you’re a DOT class, be especially careful and aware of how much damage you’re doing and how fast it will ramp up.

And sometimes the RNG plays nice!

It was a daily quest hub for level 70s back in the previous expansion. There’s no reason to go there now. You’ll get better XP, money, and gear by questing in Northrend.

You can keybind anything you can see. If something isn’t in your quickbar, that just means you have to assign your own bind. Some bar mods make the process easier, but anybody can do it through the keybinding menu on the default UI (it’s on the list of options when you hit Escape).

Ideally, anything you use frequently or may need to use on short notice should be bound. Don’t forget to make use of all your mouse buttons, too, should you have them–including scrolling up, scrolling down, and clicking the scroll wheel. (You can rebind your camera control to a modifier key plus the scroll wheel.)

Really, stuns and *especially *interrupts should always be bound, regardless of whether you’re doing PvP or PvE.

Nope. That list shouldn’t cover anything else up.

Yeah, it’s one of the many broken things about jousting. Really, if you start getting too frustrated, just let it go. It’s not worth the aggravation.

Almost as though there was some kind of horrible plan by an evil monster to cause chaos and destruction… Oh wait.

So why didn’t you decide to just enjoy yourself as a zombie?

You’ll poke your eye out, kid!

To duel an NPC, you just talk to them. The button is for dueling another player.

I’m glad I’ve been done with all of the holiday metas since last year–I haven’t gotten a single wand yet. I feel bad ‘cause I can’t help out anybody who needs them. :frowning: And I just know I’ve got stacks of the damn things in other characters’ banks on other servers.

Make yourself a macro? /p Frost Presence now causes no extra threat. It’s Blood that does that now. This is the correct stance for my DPS spec. [del]Fuck off and l2p[/del] (Although if you’re using a 2H build instead of DW, I think you still want to be in Unholy Pres.)

If someone’s trying to tank with AOE taunts, they’re doing it wrong. Not all of them are taunts (mine is a fixate, for example), and most of them don’t give a lot of threat, if any.

All tanks have had their AOE threat considerably nerfed, and I know that personally it takes me a bit to get my threat production ramped up. If a tank is having trouble with AOE aggro, suggest that they mark a target to focus on, at least for the first mob to go down. That way, they can be generating aggro on the entire pack while the DPS is only hitting one.

Technical support forum is way more useful than tickets in these circumstances. You’ll generally get a much faster response. In-game GMs are more for things like “this quest won’t let me turn it in” or “I accidentally DE’d everything I was wearing.”

Okay, based on these two posts, I think the problem is still what I suggested before.

When I talk about “primary spec” and “secondary spec,” those are actually two whole different sets of Talents. You’re talking about your primary tree, and then the Talent points you’ve put into a second tree–but all of those points are in the same spec.

At the top of your Talent window, there’s a button to change specs. It will be grayed out on your active set of talents. At the top right corner, you’ll see two little tabs. Click the other one, and that will show you your other spec, with its own set of Talents. Click the red button at the top, and that will let you change to the other spec, spend its points, and fill its glyphs.

If you need help getting everything set up, I should be able to pop over and help some time tonight or tomorrow before raid. Let me know!

Could you attack anything else? There’s a bug that pops up sometimes where clicking or hitting keybinds for any directly linked ability gives an error like that. (They’ll only work if they’re in a macro or you type them out.) I’ve found that hitting your modifier keys (Alt, Ctrl, etc.) works to clear it. I think it might be just the Alt key, but I usually hit all of them in sequence to be sure.

I can’t see it from here, but WoWWiki has a page with a list of all the herbs in the game and what levels you can pick them at. So you can see what you can pick at 70 and then go to a zone that has a lot of them. (Clicking on the name of the herb should take you to a page that tells you where it grows.) Since Elwynn only has Silverleaf and Peacebloom, moving to Westfall is probably a good intermediate stage before The Barrens.

Yeah, things can go all over the place. Different people have different pricing strategies, so materials can end up all over the board. And all herbs should be selling very well right now, because everyone’s buying glyphs.

IMO, *always *loot when you can. Nobody else can loot that creature, just you, so you’re not helping anyone else by skipping it. And if you only get a couple of copper off of it, well, that’s a couple of copper you didn’t have before! If your bags start getting too full of trash and you don’t want to take the time to head back to a vendor, you can delete the cheapest pieces, and you’re still no worse off than if you hadn’t picked it up at all.

Hmmm, when you turned in the intro quest, did you pick up another? The only thing I did differently was not turn in the intro quest until the HH was dead, so I turned in both the intro quest and the pumpkin quest at the same time. I didn’t get the achievement…

You know, thinking about it, I wonder if I got that achievement last year? :smack: I’ll have to check when I log in tonight… unless someone can check Keyne on wowarmory and let me know.

I was about to say “You numbnuts, you’ve GOT ‘the Hallowed’ set as your title!” But that’s Kene, not Keyne. :stuck_out_tongue: Keyne does not have the Savior achievement. Go back to Brill tonight and hang out with the matron for 10-15, see if her quest marker pops if you know what I mean.

SfG, not to get personal, but your Wall O Text posts are really getting out of hand. You realize that there are other people in this thread capable of answering questions? And that you do not have to reply to every single post? Maybe try to not do the Wall O text thing anymore? Thanks.
