New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Actually, it totally is usable by player toons. I’ve used it as a quick slingshot to Stormwind before–it’s even faster than the Ironforge tram!

Could we get some clarification on this part? I saw the answer about how these mounts do count for achievements, but nothing directly about whether the mounts are useable outside of AQ. If they are regular mounts that can be used elsewhere, I’ll try my luck at soloing trash down there. If they are instance-only mounts, it’s not worth the effort to me…

All the ones you can get from farming AQ are instance-only.

Really? I had absolutely no idea they were usable by player toons! All this time!

I’ve tried using those portals in the past. They weren’t clickable. :dubious: Go figure.

Well, here’s my testimony. I have 3 of the four, and they are definitely usable only within the AQ raid instance. Not useable in the open world. So if you want a real rideable-in-the-open-world, “these are not the mounts you’re looking for”.

But for me, they did have value: they count towards the General-category achievements for X mounts, where X == 10, 25, 50, or 100 depending on achievement level. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, these three “useless” mounts were an easy boost up towards 100 when I was actively despairing of ever getting the last 5 I needed.

Now, there is a fifth AQ-related bug mount that is usable outside of AQ: The Black Qiraji Battle Tank. But that one is not available any more, since it was only available to those who completed the rather long raid quest chain to open Ahn’Qiraj within 10 hours of the first person on their server having done so. That’s a small window, and I’d imagine there are only a handful on each realm with that one.

Woo Quasi! Way to go!

My FPS, especially in Dalaran, has really improved since Tuesday’s scheduled maintenance.

My mage got both the helm and the pet from the HH yesterday

Myt paladin got the pet last year, but is still looking for the helm :frowning:

One of Auctioneer’s modules shows you the going AH rate (as of your most recent scan) for an item in the mouseover tooltip, so that gives me a quick indication as to whether it might be worth posting it once. I’ll usually try to sell leather armor or daggers that have “of the Bandit” on them, or cloth “of the Invoker”. If they don’t sell after the first try I just go ahead and DE them.

Speaking of Auctioneer … new, functional version available via the Curse client as of yesterday!

I think it’s a fairly recent change, though it was before the 4.0.1 patch. I discovered it on my nelf hunter when he was questing in HP. Then I realized it’s a handy, quick way to travel between continents for holiday stuff when your hearth or whatever to Dalaran is still on cooldown. Like, start in SW/Org, do your business in those capitals, hearth to Dal, portal to a capital on the other continent, do your business there, then take the portal to the Blasted Lands, go through the Dark Portal, and pop right back through the portal to SW or Org.
Holiday stuff: I’m going to make a macro that says, “If you challenge me to a duel one more time while I’m obviously engaged in trying to put out these fires, I’m going to report you for griefing, you dumbass.”

My paladin got in on the most bizarre H:HoR run last night. We got through the trash waves and both of the first two bosses without any deaths, but at one point during the trash before the second boss, it appeared that the DK in the party was standing there doing absolutely nothing except let his ghoul do all his fighting for him.

We finished off Marwyn and headed down the tunnel, and while fighting that giant skeleton, General Wossname, the healer announced that he needed to piss like a racehorse as soon as the fight was over. Once the skeleton was down, he announced again that he was going AFK to piss. And then mentioned it again. At which point the tank and the other two DPS ran ahead and started the Jaina/LK event. This, of course, led to a wipe as the healer came back from pissing and said, “WTF?!” and tried to catch up to us, which of course meant he had to run past the LK, and was unsuccessful.

So we started the event over again, and this time made it all the way to the end … except by the time the airship showed up and sealed the tunnel, the healer and the other two DPS had somehow gotten behind the LK, and it was just the tank and I standing outside to get on the airship, while the other three all died.

Weirdness.

The hunter class would like a word with you. Seriously, though, this is learning a whole new class at 80 since our most fundamental mechanic (mana v focus) changed, bringing all that it brought with it. I think that, of all the classes in game, we got the biggest change in the history of the game.

Where was I? Oh yeah. Candy buckets. I’ve been running my 65 DK around to the buckets and getting about 1% XP per go. It’s not the world’s most efficient way to level at that point when you consider that running a single instance will generally net you a few bars’ worth.

Also, CONGRATULATIONS QUASI!!

Not sure if anyone else’s noticed but apparently Rebirth/Reincarnate/SS now all affect each other. As best as people seem to be able to figure, that’s a bug. What is intended, however, is that if one druid brezes, then all the Rebirths in the raid are on CD for 10 minutes. I mention this since we had some confusion last night in our alt ICC10 run with brezes gone bad. (It was a comedy of errors due to a bunch of us being on alts, myself included, and I’m just glad it’s over :stuck_out_tongue: )

On the up side, I got Loremaster of EK! So I’m all done with vanilla and can move on to OL and NR.

Tom, you were asking about inscription recipes in Outland – I’m not sure, I’d grab Ackis’s Recipe List and check as it’ll tell you what you’re missing and where to get it. My scribe is pretty much maxed out and is only missing Mage Armor and Intimidating Shout – the former is screwed up, the latter I’ve opened a ticket on to have it looked into as both wowhead and Ackis claim it’s learnable from a glyph book despite the fact that every time I click one it says “You’ve learned everything from this book”. >_<

Honestly, I’m almost glad it was a hardware problem. If it was something on their end, it could have taken a couple of days to get a tech out to fix it.

:smack: No, I totally thought it was you. I’ve caught myself misreading **Broomstick **as **Bosstone **a couple of times recently; apparently this time I didn’t catch it, or I did catch it and then forgot again. Apologies to both of you!

The removal of Soul Shards as currency for out-of-combat spells isn’t much of a change (I’d equate it to removing ammo: nice, but not a big deal). What *is *potentially game-altering is the fact that they’re now an additional spell resource for use in combat. I’m not sure how it’s playing out on the live realms so far, but if they balance it properly, using your Soul Shards in the right way at the right time will make a big difference in your PvP and endgame PvE performance.

And grats on the horse, you lucky bastidge! It’s a very appropriate one for a 'Lock.

To sum up everything in one spot:

1.) The mounts that drop in AQ40 can only be summoned in AQ40.

2.) They all count towards the mount total achievements.

3.) One of them (the red one) awards a Feat of Strength.

4.) There is one mount with an identical model but a different skin that is no longer obtainable, which was a reward from the AQ opening chain. The first player to ring the gong (plus every person to ring the gong for 10 hours after that) got it, along with the title of Scarab Lord. There were a handful of new realms created with their gates still closed after the original servers had their gates opened; these servers saw an influx of transfers with already-made scepters, so a fairly large number of non-native characters achieved their titles and mounts there. However, going forward, all new realms are created with their gates already open, so unless Blizzard changes their mind, there is no way to get this mount or title any more.

Yes, I use that feature quite frequently. However, any time I checked for greens, it was always better to DE than to sell, so I just stopped checking. Could just be different server economies.

1.) /ignore
2.) If you leave the invitation up, they can’t send a new one to you or anyone else until the first one times out.
3.) There may be a built-in UI setting to automatically deline duels, and I’m sure there’s an addon for it.

I love doing this just to piss them off. It’s a little passive aggressive, but it’s effective.

That sucks. Also something that should have been mentioned prominently in the patch notes, I think.

Speaking of druids, it looks like my Mark of the Wild no longer requires a reagent. Can I safely get rid of them and free up bag space?

Also, anyone wanna talk Boomkin rotations? I know Solar eclipse means cast Wrath for higher damage, and Lunar eclipse means cast…Star-something. Also notice I have a new nuke on cooldown…forget the name of it. I tend to open boss fights with farie fire/insect swarm/moonfire/new nuke then either wrath or the other one depending on eclipse status. Refresh dots as needed, nuke till dead, change nukes as eclipse dictates.

For solo fights, I lead with the star-something nuke…has a long cast time, about three seconds…then dot as the mob runs to me…then either finish him off or knock him back with typhoon.

For trash pulls, I’ll use starfall when it looks safe to do it, otherwise Hurricane, then nuke survivors…

Correct.

I danced a little inside when my priest was able to vendor five stacks of Holy Candles. Yay for more space!

You kept five stacks of Holy Candles around? I don’t think I ever had more than two.

Wut. No more holy candles?

BRB VENDORING.

Yeah, I was always paranoid about being in the middle of a raid and running out of candles. I would usually buy four stacks at a time, and fill up if it dropped to around one stack. Five was a little exaggeration, it was probably three stacks and a partial stack.

YOU NO TAKE CANDLE!

Heh. My priest was never a raider, so one stack sufficed for daily heroics, especially since I only ran multiple heroics per day in the rarest of occasions (grinding the next piece of must-have tier gear and just about to go out of town, ferinstance). Although that one stack did run perilously low in one chain-wipe H:HoR. Man. That may have been the worst instance run I’ve ever PUGged.

I keep forgetting to vend the dozen or so I have left, too. It’s just one bag slot, but I usually try to cut down on the extraneous crap. Last I looked, it hasn’t been converted to a gray item, so it’s not selling off when I push the “Sell Junk” button (this addon). Because of that, I may never remember to sell them. :frowning:

These guys got the retort to that right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkgF_eKnWNY&feature=player_embedded

Speaking of griefing during holiday events, I got a fairly satisfying pvp kill on a ganker (IMHO) tagging a few vulnerable (as in, PvP flagged) sub-60s who were fighting HH’s fires in Brill. Level 80 gnome rogue. I watched him quickly down a couple of busy Hordies and then vanish when he started taking bad damage. And the vanish must have worked, because everyone (including NPCs) stopped attacking him. He started sneaking away with < 1000 health. But I still saw him!

Yaaaay for hunter detections now being able to detect multiple things at once! I still had Track Hidden turned on and I watched that little stinker about to get away with his murderous spree! And he didn’t notice me at all, or hoped I hadn’t noticed him.

Bad mistake, Mr. Gnome.

So I shot him. He died with the very satisfying little yelp male gnomes do when they die.
