New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Derp, right.

The one you’re looking for in Fire is Hot Streak.

While we’re talking about rezzing in BGs, I have a question about something that happened to me the other day.

I was in Eye of the Storm - the one where we were getting slaughtered by an Alliance pre-made. I was killed, and standing at the Spirit Healer. The timer on the rez counted down and then…nothing happened. I was still dead. I waited another 30 seconds and then… nothing again (meanwhile, other people were getting rezzed next to me while I stood there). I went through about three cycles before the rez finally ‘took’ and I was able get back to the fight.

I am 100% sure I was not out of range, and I have enough practice dying in BGs to know that it was weird. Was this just some kind of glitch or was something else going on?

That’s happened to me once or twice. I think the fix is to move out of range, then back in.

I think it’s a glitch. It happened to me, too, on my DK, in WG (he was farming between matches). I had to run back to his body–who knows what would have happened if someone looted his insignia.

Blame EJ. I also blame my alma mater which has a habit of abusing the venerable art of the acronym to make snappy names in exactly this way.

Yes, but I was thinking of how one gets from the GY after rezzing back to the fighting when I said that. Good point though.

I also nth the MSBT recommendation. See, I have the HWT and it gives you a buff that stacks TWENTY times. >:| Stock is to have “Buff 1” “Buff 2” “Buff 3” whizzing past onscreen until you go mad and tear that thing out with prejudice. Much easier to pick out the procs that I actually do care about.

I dunno, but that could be it. Though this mage is Fire, but I think there was some kind of +Hit talent in the old tree somewhere. In any case, between reforging and getting a boot upgrade in ToC just now (holy crap, she’s in 3 pieces of T10 and 2 pieces of T9, any her boots were still iLvl 200) and popping a yellow +20 Hit gem into them, I’ve got her miss chance vs. lvl 83 down to under 1%. OTOH, even at 10% I still didn’t seem to be missing, really.

As Infovore said, Hot Streak is what I was looking for.

I don’t know if this is just coincidence or what, but ever since I changed the e-mail address I use to log into the game, almost all of the phishing mails I receive at my regular address (which I used to use for login) are of the “Battle.net Account - E-mail address changed” variety.

Just FYI, it always goes to the next percentage–so if you’re less than 1%, you’re at 1% chance to miss. But that’s not really a huge deal and you probably already knew about it anyway

As far as where the hit went, there used to be two talents that provided 3% Hit each–one available to everybody (Precision, formerly Elemental Precision) and one available to Arcane mages (Arcane Focus). These are both gone. But most good Fire mages didn’t even take Precision (because there were better places to put the points). Hit was also provided by moonkin druids and shadowpriests (3% if you had one or the other in your group–they didn’t stack) and you also got 1% if you were Alliance and had a Draenei in your group. I know the moonkin/spriest bonus is gone now–not sure about the Draenei since I’m Horde. But since most raids could count on having at least some of that in their raid, Hit wasn’t as big a deal. But now, with that all gone, you’re responsible for all your Hit on your own. That’s why it’s such a pain. The switch of Hit gems to blue and the removal of Spirit as a useful stat for caster DPS helped a lot, though, since you can now regem or reforge all your Spirit into Hit without taking a DPS loss.

Are you sure about this? From what I recall of discussions of Hunter pet stat scaling, that was one of the biggest issues (the Hunter would only be under the cap by a small amount, but the pet would drop to a full 1% chance to miss).

It now only applies to the Draenei character itself–no party or raid members.

I didn’t know that, but that’s probably a good move. Makes it simpler for topline raiders to set up their equipment and not need to worry about whether a Draenei will be in the raid or not.

Hmm. It’s possible that it isn’t true anymore. I know it used to be. I’ll have to do a bit more research and see if I can find out if it still is.

Given what an important stat Hit is for any DPS, I’m pretty sure it converts to the actual percentage. Othewise, the theorycrafting forums would be full of tables with the various plateaus of exactly how much +Hit you needed to hit each additional percentage point.

The draenei racial being raid-wide made NO SENSE whatsoever, anyway. The whole point of giving horde paladins & alliance shamans was to make faction choice irrelevant from a min/maxing perspective. 1% extra hit is a huge boon early on in raid content since it allows your entire raid to gem/spec for something else instead (stam, spwr, etc).

I didn’t know that, but it still works out. I effectively went from 2% (was at 1.x%) to 1% (actual 0.94%). And actually to 0%, because…

… and my mage happens to be draenei

ETA: Unless, of course, that number in my Character window is already factoring in the racial.

I haven’t seen anyone post about this here yet, but there’s a… well, I wouldn’t call it a bug. Possibly an easter egg, since it uses the blizzard API I can’t imagine it’s unintended but blues haven’t commented either way. But mages can rename their water elementals! Using this slash command:

/run PetRename(“NAME HERE”)

It only works once, supposedly. I haven’t heard about anyone trying to use a scroll of rename pet on them, though. Anyway, I named my gnome mage’s water elemental DeDessicated (DeDe for short  ). It doesn’t always work on the first try, I had to dismiss and resummon once before it would actually work. The first time it gave me an error “That pet cannot be renamed.” I’ve heard it can take several dismissals/resummons to work.

Relatedly, I’m looking for suggestions from anyone on other good water elemental names, for my horde mage alt. Can anyone think of any good ones?

/run PetRename(“Grounding Totem”)

HA! I forgot. I’ll be playing against real live people. not NPC’s. (Guess I’ve been used to questing for a very long time - 2 years!)

  1. Got kicked out in the midst of sending some borean leather to double L tonight. I had to log back in totally - with authenticator code.

  2. In addition to doing my Argent Tournament Dailies, I’m farming leather from scourge in the Argent camp. I only have to kill 8 scourge, but I hang around (if no one’s there questing) until I get a stack of 20 leather. If someone IS questing, and they leave the carcass, I wsp if I can loot for the leather. They always say ok.

Only thing is, the game must have gotten wise to me, because instead of the leather, the spiders will sometimes yield fur scraps and something called nerubian chitlins. Soul food in Azeroth. Who’da thunk it.

Anyway, the leather is a big money maker and gear is not - which surprised me. Most people will ignore a pair of frost shoulder pads that I undercut, and so I sell to the vendor.

Thanks

That Arctic Fur is really valuable! It’s needed for high-end patterns, both for making and for buying.

I renamed mine “Puddles.”

And hey, I noticed that Blizzard fixed the demon random re-naming for locks - my felguard is Thoodhun once again!
