That’s because they were originally designed as tanks. OTs, anyway.
You can add to that list “Hunters are able to summon an infinite number of pets.” The only thing that keeps this as mostly a party trick instead of something gamebreaking is that it requires a tameable beast, and the extra pets will despawn if you go through any loading screen. (So it can’t be used in raids, BGs, Arenas, etc.)
I did. I have it set up to use a gold perma-arc that fills up as I build holy power, and some other procs around it as needed. If you’re interested I can try to figure out how to extract it, but here’s what I recall. The latest version of Powa will track hopo/focus/etc quite easily – once you’ve got that and have it set to invert, you can set a threshold, for hopo it’ll give you 1-2-3. (The invert is so it doesn’t disappear once your hopo passes the threshold). I also recommend checking ‘in combat’ so it disappears when you’re not in combat. You’ll need to set up 4 animations in Powa, 1 for the arc, and 1 for each threshold.
And please ignore the stock sUF/buffs in that screenshot, I haven’t gotten round to redoing them the way I like them
ETA: You can also set powa up to beep or ding at you as well for each stage.
I’m doing something similar for my hunter as well, just a thin gold arc that goes in 20-40-60-80-100 increments for focus.
MikScrollingBattleText? I’ve never heard of it before now, but if that’s what you’re referring to, the latest update on Curse says it does support both Holy Power changes and full Holy Power.
Edit: That said, I might have to play with it later. Looks useful. I also need to revamp the -hell- out of Grid. Not looking forward to that.
In the same sense that voidwalkers, hunters, hunter pets and paladins were, sure. They all had weak threat-generating abilities but virtually nothing in the way of actual survival capability. Bears were the only thing even vaguely resembling a tank that wasn’t a warrior, and even they were inferior to an arms warrior who threw a shield on. Without exception, all of the above are better tanks right now than they were in vanilla, but these days the idea of building an instance group around one would get you laughed at, because the real tanks have progressed so very far beyond that most basic of capability that it’s not even remotely comparable. However, that basic capability is what the content was made for. Naturally it becomes something of a joke when you throw one of the modern real tanks at it.
It’s really not limited to tanking, either. Healing and DPS are also leaps and bounds beyond what the already intentionally undertuned content was made for, to the point where even groups that would have been considered undergeared in the era that it was current now blow through things without even realizing that some bosses even have special abilities, much less what they actually do.
My pally is Retribution. I don’t know this Word of Glory of which you speak…
I’m finding the built-in visual effects to be sufficient.
Proc frustration: I swear that my pally’s Art of War, and my mage’s [whatever the proc that lets me cast a free Pyroblast is called - slipping my mind ATM] consistently procs when I land the killing blow and there isn’t another mob in range, so it gets wasted.
Speaking of hit cap … I noticed my mage was showing like a 10% miss chance vs. lvl 83 bosses after the patch, so I went and reforged a crapload of gear, turning Spirit into Hit Rating. I hadn’t realized how much of her sub-T10 mage gear had Spirit on it.
ISTR a new feature that lets you choose which GY to rez in, last time I got ganked in WG. Or did the other faction control all the other GYs?
Hey, all. Back from Blizzcon, and trying to catch up with all the stuff I’ve missed in this thread since I left. Did anyone else go, or watch the live broadcast?
It was a lot of fun (and a lot of walking and line-waiting), and the best part was that one of my guildies won second place (out of 90 entries, most of them very good) in the Costume Contest! If anybody was watching, he was Illidan. We were all so proud of him when he bonked Jay Mohr in the head with his horns while trying to talk to him.
Here’s a picture–the wings extended out to 16 feet!
The only part of Blizzcon I was able to watch was Paragon’s defense of Orgrimmar. That was pretty badass. Other than that I just followed the live blogs on WoW Insider.
Apparently Blizzard thinks Spirit is crap now, because it can be reforged and it’s not useful for mages and warlocks. I reforged the gear of my level 80 mage and lock to get rid of as much Spirit as I could.
Infovore, that’s awesome! I checked out a gallery of costume photos yesterday, and my husband and I both commented on how cool that costume was.
It’s not that they think Spirit is crap, it’s that Spirit is the Healer Stat. Still, I kind of wonder why they didn’t just do for mages and locks what they did for hybrid classes – make Spirit the hit rating stat and get rid of hit rating on caster gear altogether.

Does MSBT have a trigger for this yet?
[/QUOTE]
Yes it does, I haven’t been able to play with the configurations yet but it does track holy power and gives you a big “FULL HOLY POWER” text that pops up when you have 3. Which is useful since my Pitbull frames have stopped tracking it for some reason.
Looks like no ICC group this week… again. /sigh I guess I’ll just have to start pugging, that is if I can find pugs now.
I think you can loot a few coins from a pvp kill, and you can get an achievement if you can emote /hug on a horde corpse before they release to respawn. Think it is called “Make love not Warcraft”. There are also lots of other achievements for each battleground. But the whole point of doing PVP is to get honor, which you can use to buy epic level gear. Or you can use honor to buy uncut gems which you can then sell on the AH for gold. Or mounts from races where you are not exalted rep.
I did a number of BGs this weekend, but ran into pre-mades twice. Once in WSG they had us all corralled in our GY (I died like 15 times). Then we hit another one in EotS in which we failed to capture a single tower - that one was over quickly, 1600/0. But for some reason, we dominated AB every time I was there.
One thing about PVP, that I haven’t seen anyone else mention, Quasi, is that people die a lot in PVP, which is fine because PVP doesn’t give you a repair bill. (Specifically, if another player kills you, you won’t get a repair bill. And you rez with full health, which is a plus.) Just have to run back from the graveyard to where ever the fighting is going on.

Last night we got an ICC 10 going with the continuation from the 25, and we decided to let me bring my priest (whee!) due to lack of heals. However I was shortly reconsidering that choice when we decided to have a go at H Fester. Second try, we were more prepared for how much the blight hurts and basically healed our nuts off. (2 hpriests and 1 resto shaman) Got through it very nicely too, but I was pretty much white knuckling it.
Good night though – after some bad luck on BQL we got all the way up to Dreamwalker and rescued her successfully with a fourth resto shaman on the second try. I got the Pale Corpse Boots off Prince Valanar, which are purty.
Regarding the raid lock system, after some more explanations of How It All Works complete with a demo courtesy of my priest who was saved 1 boss later than the rest of the folks who were inside, we’re trying something different with our raid schedule now. Changing it around so that the 25 is the first thing in the week and then smaller 10s later to progress from there. This should hopefully help with attendance since it’ll make it more attractive to other folks.
Yup. Been using it and loving it pretty much as long as I’ve been raiding. It’s great because you can completely customize what shows up, so that all of the incedentals aren’t cluttering up your screen.
I’d cut the pets out and just say Paladins. The Horde/Alliance Shaman/Paladin split meant that for balance reasons, both had to be at least *vaguely *viable three-way hybrids. This was back in the Golden Age of Warrior Tanking ™ where pretty much the only main tanks were Warriors, but that didn’t mean that a Pally or a Shammy wouldn’t do in a pinch, especially for an easier job.
What caused that, anyway? I noticed the same thing on my Mage. Was it just the loss of the +Hit Talents in Frost and Arcane, or was there something else?
AFAIK, it’s always been that way–or at least it’s been that way for quite some time. You can move to any GY your faction controls.
No, Brain Freeze is when you get a free FFB, and it’s a deep Frost Talent.
I subscribed (for the pet, mainly) and then didn’t get around to watching anything streaming. I just kept up with the WI summaries. Depending on how long they cache the videos for, I suppose I may go back at some point.
Tell him he was great! I saw the photos on WI.
In Wintergrasp and Battlegrounds, you’re almost always killing other players. If you “loot” the player (to prevent them from rezzing anywhere but at the graveyard), you may get a small amount of money and maybe a grey item with a silly name.
Graveyards in WG and BGs work differently from the rest of the world. In these PVP areas, the Spirit Healer automatically rezzes everyone in a short range around it every 30 seconds, and there is no cost or durability hit or Rez Sickness.
What you do get are Honor Points, which can then be exchanged for PvP gear. Because of the level of the gear, you may actually be able to find upgrades from what you’re wearing now.
Actually, for BGs and WG, I’d generally suggest just waiting at the Spirit Healer for a rez. Most enemy players will loot your insignia, which will force you back anyway, which can lose you some time on a larger map.
