New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Yes, and to cut down on looting quarrels. A priest not only needs to carry two sets of gear, they need to compete for two sets too. So they’d be fighting the other priests (and maybe other healers) for healing gear and fighting mages and locks (and maybe boomkin and ele shammies) for DPS gear. This way, if cloth with Spirit drops, it’s clearly Priest gear.

The instant cast Firebolt was worth it if you were moving.

And I’m quite sure that’s exactly what I posted in the post you were responding to, since that’s where I got my new rotation. The only addition is the Orb, since that’s a spell we won’t get until we level (85, I think).

The Backseat will be staying 25. I’m sure it’s possible that we may split into 10s at the end of lockout periods, but unless something major changes, we’ll always be a 25-man guild primarily.

Correct–this is all through the default UI. Usually I’ll have the Filter tab selected, which cuts out the random chatter but lets me see what’s going on in-guild. If I’m in a capital, though, I may go to the main Chat tab so I can keep an eye for anyone advertising for a crafter of a profession I have.

I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing here. There’s the Hit rating, which comes off your gear and gives you a certain percent. And then there’s your actual chance to hit, which may be slightly higher, as it is for my Warrior. I’ll try to remember to check it out when I get home so if it’s like I remember it being I can take a screenshot to show you what I mean.

Right, it wasn’t contradiction, just clarification.

But I will point out that I was saying this is a new rotation, not the same old same old. And although I didn’t paste it, the intro to the rotation in EJ’s guide was:

Old PVE rotation: Frostbolt, Frostbolt, repeat steps 1 and 2. New PVE rotation: what you said.

I went to kill Altruis and try to start up the Sholazar dailies today…I managed to kill him but the phylactery sits there with a grayed-out quest mark over it. Am I missing something? (It’s been probably over a year since I tried the quest last)

I guess it just doesn’t feel that different to me. Before, I’d sit there and spam FB until FoF procced, in which case I’d use DF if it was off CD. Now, I’ll sit there and spam FB until FoF procs, in which case I’ll use DF if it’s off CD, FFB if it’s not and BF is up, and IL if neither of those is available.

IIRC, FoF used to only be 15%, wasn’t it? I know the change wasn’t long ago, but I haven’t seriously played with my Mage in months.

30% means it’s up way more often now, so in general Frost is just a lot more active and switching up buttons than before.

Yeah, the charge mechanism is also different. It used to start with two charges; now it stacks up to two. Or something along those lines. I won’t disagree that the actual combat log breakdown will be much different; I’m just saying that, to me, this doesn’t feel like a massive rework of the basic PvE Frost rotation/priority: same basic mechanic of spamming FB while waiting for FoF to make other abilities usable and/or more worthwhile.

Oh sure. But sometimes tweaks are all that’s needed to get something feeling right. Ice Lance was never included in the rotation even though it was meant to, because using it meant an actual DPS loss. So it gets tweaked and now it’s worthwhile. Nothing really new has been added, but it works better.

Indeed. It actually makes me wish I had the time to raid on the Mage.

Gods I love the Violet Hold instance. No one ever skins their kills. I just hang around until everyone leaves the party and pick up 20 pieces of Borean Leather.

I like Violet Hold, too, and I haven’t even run it as a skinner. I like it because it’s a quick easy heroic, 18 fights, Justice Points and out the door.

I wish it wasn’t such an exact copy of the BC instance, at least they could have used different mobs or number of portals.

I play on an RPPVP server and named my mage Marysue (because of the humorous implications). Ergo I decided to name my elemental MaryTsunami. pow!

I like alliteration

For me, VH is a snorefest but at least it’s not H HOL or H HOS, which are the two instances that I groan when I zone into.

My priest has taken to Holy Novaing and dotting her way through there.

Interestingly enough, H DTK and H VH are the instances my hunter’s hit the most – 62 and 40 runs, respectively. The next highest instances are 21 each. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not a lot of skinners. Handy for you, though!

It’s gotten a lot more tolerable since they sped the portals up. Used to be you could make a sandwich while making for the trash spawn after a boss. Plus, it seemed like they designed it so that there was exactly enough time for a Warrior tank to run out of Rage between portals.

Ahahaha, love it.

I used to keep track of that – at one point my priest had done HoL 36 times and Oculus three times (and I wasn’t dropping out of Oc; just never getting put there). Oc is still very, very low compared to the rest. ToC is another one I never get randomly.

Hm. I should log in my mage and Frost-spec him again. Character name Jmkeynes - should I go for “Liquidity” or “LiquidAsset”?

Ok…I’m finally working on getting the Prot Spec on my paladin. Other Pally Tank players…please help me fill out this spec.
What I’ve done so far:

I spent a big wad of JP on 4 pieces of the T10 set plus the Cataclysm Chest Guard, Sentinel’s Winter Cloak, Corroded Skeleton Key, Libram of Fortitude, and the Verdigris Chain Belt. I BS’ed a Titansteel Shield Wall, equipped Falric’s Wrist Chopper (1h axe). I kept using the lvl264 PvP bracers (for lack of anything better), Darkmoon Card: Greatness (for lack of anything better), and a pair of lvl245 PvP boots (which I may replace with theICC tank boots). Oh…the rings…I kept using the Ashen Band of Unmatched Might, and the Clutch of Fortification.

Questions:

  1. Do I go into ICC to get the Tank’s ring, or do I keep paying 200g to switch rings…or does something else happen?

  2. I looked on Elitist Jerks for some guidance and find this thread lacking (compared to the Retribution Thread). Any other sites that you know of that has a theorycraft relevent to this time period (4.0.1 until Cataclysm release)? Since I am new to tanking, the gemming seems straightforward (Stam, Stam, Stam, Stam, Stam, Stam, Stam, Stam, Wonderful Stam, Wonderful Stam!, stamstamstamstam, stamstamstamstam), but HP and the new spell rotations, glyphing, what order I should have on my bars, mods, macros, etc. makes me scratch my head a bit. I’m looking for something that takes me from 0-60 in 3.2 days. Know of any?

  3. Hi Opal…I’m thinking of other questions to ask…bear with me.

Oh, and I do have another 1800+ JP left if there’s something I missed. That Triumph badge conversion really made my month.

I understand that ideally, you’ll eventually want to get the T10 chest piece and replace your legs with the crafted legs (pillars of might), which I believe you already have the recipe for.

Trinket-wise, you should probably be using one of the beer steins from Brewfest (assuming you got and kept at least one), or else you can run normal ToC-5 over and over again until you get the Black Heart. There’s probably another Stam trinky around somewhere but I have no idea where.

If you don’t have any of the Stam trinkies it’s probably worth buying the +armor trinky (the old triumph badge one) to replace the greatness card.

Liquidation…Liquidator…LiquidityFaire…
