New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I wish he had called me – I still need that one!

I ran ToC last night and the Black Knight came in and Varian was yelling “What are you doing?! Hurry up and kill him!”. And then after we finished he was like, “Good job warriors!”.

Shut up, Varian. If we’re not killing him fast enough, come and do it yourself.

I also like running around the Argent Tourny Grounds and catching Thrall bitching out Garrosh.

Sooooooooo last Friday, I got named in an article in the WoW Insider column The Care and Feeding of Warriors: “Fury Demolishes Entire Cities.” Sleutel’s the name of my main, and it’s also the name I post under in the WI comments.

Well, Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra are somewhat different experiences. I liked HF a lot better for Alliance, personally, although keep in mind that this was back before the RDF, so it was definitely more convenient at the time to be questing in the same zone as Utgarde Keep.

AFAIK, it’s the game, and it’s 100% random. It makes raid(s) out of everyone who queued, regardless of when they queued.

I think this is another one of those jousting quests, so you’ll probably want to skip it. But I think the Elwynn Steeds are alongside the Alliance tent, with the other racial mounts.

It’s a bug. Try running out of range and running back in again, and/or canceling the rez and then talking to the NPC.

Pretty sure this just means riding along.

That’s the same time all of the dailies reset, so I’m sure it would be a pain in the ass to recode. What they need to do is just reprogram the calendar to not display the event’s icon on an entire day when it’s only available for part of it.

Woo! Congrats.

Not currently. Off the top of my head, there are four holidays so far that work like that: the trio from Love Is in the Air; Ahune during the Midsummer Fire Festival; Corin Direbrew during Brewfest; and the Headless Horseman during Hallow’s End. The other ones don’t have minibosses, at least not yet.

Other players have abilities that can throw you down, confuse you, stun you, transform you, or make you run away in fear. These all take your character out of your control for a few seconds. If you get feared, you can use Berserker Rage to break out. For most other things, you should be able to use Every Man for Himself. Both of those should be on the action bars that run across the top of your quickbar/bags.

Hit him on your own. Don’t ever worry about letting Wolkie do stuff for himself–your autoattack is never as powerful as what you can control him and tell him to do. Like someone said, use Mortal Strike first in PvP. It will decrease the healing done to your opponent.

There is a hard cap to the number of people you can ignore using the game itself. To ignore more, you either have to remove some people from your ignore list or start using an addon that will work the same way as the game’s ignore. I can’t search Curse from work, so I can’t see descriptions, but it looks like Infinite Ignore or IgnoreMore might be useful.

The easy way to get out of any Battleground is to just go AFK–type **/afk **and it will kick you.

Well done!

Moohoohahaha.

1.) I’m not sure if we’ve heard word yet as to whether the seahorse mounts will work anywhere but the specific Cataclysm underwater zone(s). If not, the Sea Turtle will still be your best bet for moving faster underwater. Your two other options are: (a) win the STV fishing tournament and select the trinket as your prize, which will give you a fish form with underwater breathing and faster swim speed (but not as fast as the turtle); or (b) roll a Druid, who get a swim form.

2.) With the advent of 4.0.1, the only way to earn a 310% speed mount is to complete the holiday uber-meta What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been. The other meta mounts no longer scale to that level unless you already have the skill. So unless you want to wait up to a year, you’ll be stuck shelling out 4k-5k gold for the skill.

There is one chain of riding skills that everyone must follow: 60% land > 100% land > 150% air > 280% air > 310% air. In order to buy any rank, you must already have trained the previous ranks. However, there are also two optional flying skills. One, Cold Weather Flying, is used for flying in Northrend and can be trained at any time after you reach 150% air. The other, Old Weather Flying, will be used to allow you to fly in the old world after the launch of Cata, and presumably also will be available at any point after 150%. Cold/Old should be unrelated: you can have one, the other, both, or neither.

Try /use Tailoring.

Does “Skinnable” show up with a color other than red? It should show up for every character, regardless of whether or not they have trained Skinning–the only difference is that the word will be Gray/Green/Yellow/Orange if it’s one that your particular character can skin.

Busy week!

Congrats!

Yeah, that *is *weird. Hopefully a GM can figure out what’s going on.

1.) BOE items will be the most expensive, if you want the best ones. Even with Cata coming up, you’re still looking at probably 2k to 8k gold per item.

2.) Gems and enchantments will vary wildly on cost depending on (a) what level of them you’d like to use, (b) what materials you have on hand, and (c) who you can find to cut/chant for you. If you buy gems with Honor Points and then have a friend cut them, those are “free,” and if you save up all of the enchanting mats from your RDF runs and then get a friend to do those, they’re also “free.” Scare quotes are to indicate that you’d be losing out on the profit of selling those items by using them yourself.

3.) A lot of “expenses” at 80 are ones that are self-created, just because you tend to have more money than you know what to do with. Personally, I collect profession recipes, pets, and mounts. I’ve dumped tens of thousands of gold into these three pursuits–it’s not unusual, for example, for me to spend 200g on a JC recipe I’ll probably never use, just to have it.

Hahahahaaaaaaa. Excellent.

Not a bad weekend for myself. Picked up Glory of the Hero and the Red Proto Drake for my warrior, now I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to go into Oculus.

Grinded BG’s for a few weapon upgrades. A couple of one hander axes, one for my paladin and one for my DK, a bow for my hunter, and the healing mace/offhand for my druid. I’d kind of like the staff for my bear set, but I’m really sick of BG’s for right now.

Just got out of a really annoying H HoS run. Queued up to check out how my shiney new axe looks and get two griefers. DK’s from Winterhoof who tried their best to wipe us. Pulling all the groups from that first circle area while I was at the top of the stairs tanking, pulling those three patrolling mobs in front of the area that leads to the Maiden of Grief. They almost wiped us on that pull, with all the chain lightning flying around, but I managed to taunt them all and get them turned around, only lost the mage. Afterwards we kicked them and the rest of the run was smooth. I should have known something was up when they wouldn’t switch presences, oh well it kept me on my toes.

Excellent! And excellent!

Forgive me if this has already been posted…Jace Hall - “I Play W.O.W.”

I can identify with Jace; Hot wife/gf, Belf Pally, awesome guildies, and a bald head.

As I may have noted before, I will be rather amused if my priest alt gets Kingslayer before my main does. We said hi to him last night, and our group was really clicking – we actually got to 37% as our current personal best on the first real night of trying. I got to be one of the first players sucked into Frostmourne although that only lasted about two seconds before we wiped.

We may have to learn to slow dps a bit until both shamblers are dead before the transition is up; we were blasting right along and pushing the transition. (thanks to our resident lock who clocks in at 11K, the bastard)

That said, on a few tries the plague seemed to bug and would kill the OT before I could even react (and I’m the dispel bitch!) – not sure what that was about. He went from 100 to 0 in <1 second with 6 stacks of plague, which surprised both of us. I’m more used to 13-14 stacks that can be safely dispelled.

Either way, all in all, it was an excellent night of practice.

Except for the hot girlfriend thing, me too.

Yay! I picked up the Felglacier Bolter which I think is the highest level bow/crossbow/gun you can get outside of raids and the arena. Dropped on my first try for it too! Thanks Ick!

No more noisy rifle for me!

I shall!

Hmm, not sure - I was mousing over corpses that were of such a level that they would have showed red anyway. I’ll scoot back to Durotar and try it again on something there.

Seriously, right? Looking at the guy’s “recent activity” list, it’s pretty obvious he’s trying to run all the achievements for his Red Protodrake, and IMO, that’s something you form your own complete party for. You don’t use the RDF and then keep kicking every random person you get who isn’t on the same page with you.

I finally broke down and watched that, after seeing it show up at or near the top of every list of WoW videos on YouTube (can you say “paid placement”?) I found it incredibly lame, and the guy’s rap skills were questionable.

You /use items. You /cast professions.

It won’t work though, since it’s bugged out. Drop it and relearn it. If that fails, ticket.

I KING OF MORDOKS! HAIL TO DA KING!

Sorry, going back for Classic Dungeonmaster.

I got mine with some RDF members, but then again, it was on a “want to get X achievement?” and usually the answer was “heck yes!”

Odd. “/use Tailoring” worked fine on my paladin - brought up the Tailoring window, anyway. I can see where /use wouldn’t work for a gathering profession, though. But SFG was recommending it with regard to my lowbie toon’s Tailoring, which was showing in my profession window without the relevant button I’d normally click.

Weird. They must’ve made /use and /cast interchangeable. That’s what I get for not updating myself on scripting since my first round of playing back in '05.

So, I’ve taken the plunge and started playing. I’ve only got up to BC installed so far, and am up to level 15 with my night elf hunter, strictly solo. Lots of fun so far…

Welcome to the addiction!

1.) You want to push the LK, period. The disease will kill the adds, assuming it’s getting dropped properly on top of the Shamblings. Shamblings will *keep spawning *for as long as you are in Ph1.

2.) The number of stacks do not matter. *Any *number of stacks will be fatal if they’re not dispelled in time.

AFAIK, /case and /use are interchangeable. And when I was on the PTR, using the script for launching the profession allowed you to access the window when it wasn’t showing up properly under your professions, which seems to be the bug that he’s encountering here.

Yay! Welcome to the game.

I went online and got a message that my request has been “escalated”, whatever that means, so when I hear back, I’ll be sure to let y’all know.

BTW, the reason I have noticed the problem is because I have started writing down the amount of points I get whenever I finish a battle. (I just didn’t want you to think that just because I’m batshit, doesn’t always mean I don’t know what I’m talking about, okay? :))

Thanks

Q

Quasi…the number of points you get for finishing a battle is not an accurate count of the points earned during the battle.

I may be mistaken, but I think you get some honor points for ever kill and/or other task completed during the battle, in addition to the award given at the end.
