New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Well, sort of. Psychic Scream. Which has the major defect that you have to be standing RIGHT NEXT TO someone to use it on them.

Yeah, I was going to say that the range of Psychic Scream is much shorter than the range of Mind Control, and MC works best when they don’t know it’s coming (because it has a long cast time). For that reason it works best when you’re on the edge of a crowd and not currently targeted by someone. Silence might work, although with the same disadvantage in that you draw attention to yourself.

Partner up with a Warlock, then, and have them handle the fears, after which you toss the enemy off a cliff.

 I’d almost feel bad about that. Almost.

Just finished WG (Alliance beat ass!) and just wanted to post my HP’s here and yes, they were at the top.

I have some questions though:

  1. Starting off in WG is kinda tough, isn’t it? There’s that tiny corridor you have to ride through to get to the battlefield. Is there an easier way? Especially when I get rezzed - I never know which way to go.

  2. Is Wolkie supposed to get off Silka to attack a Horde siege vehicle, or are we supposed to avoid it? (Don’t answer to make it easy on me, just answer the way you would anyone else - thanks)

  3. All those Halloween thingies we won: Should I bank those for next year or make them disappear.

My in-game guru, Bombadil (what a great name, right? He scored it before anyone else could get it and I just call him “Tom” whenever he appears) and his wife are going to have a baby! Their first! They aren’t going to call him Wolkie or Quasi, though. :( Or, if it’s a she, Silka, although that is a very popular German name for girls.

  1. Whenever I’m farming for leather and see another player there, I always ask if they’re questing and if so, I’ll leave and come back. Good etiquette, right?

An observation: When I’m fighting an NPC, I find that Mortal Strike (that axe) gets me more damage than Rend does. Is it different for other classes? It also seems to make “overpower” and my sword in the action bar light up quicker when I do that.

  1. I’m not sure how I should use “Victory Rush”. I know if there’s another enemy nearby it is supposed to help me in some way and when it’s lit up like a neon sign, I always use it when I attack my next enemy (which is up close), but that’s all I do - just click on it. Should I Charge and THEN click on it?

Although Alliance won in WG a little while ago, I feel like my gear is killing me (5 times tonight!) I got feared twice and just plain my ass kicked the other 3 times, but thanks to the Battle Group, made my two quests.

Thanks

Y’all can see this, right?

See that little monkey face just to the right of the description auction box? THAT is what is being used to describe those gloves, and is probably why they aren’t selling. I know it’s a Halloween thing but when I clicked to open it, it described those gloves and that’s it.

What do y’all think?

Thanks

While you’re waiting to rez, type M and look at the zone map. It doesn’t change, and you’ll see where you are in relation to everything else.

Gear makes a huge difference in how your character will perform. A guy in full pvp gear is a lot harder to kill than somebody in quested pve gear. PvP gear has different stat priorities, and makes it harder to score critical hits on the guy wearing it.

I usually engage Horde vehicles as a priority target, and definitely if they are in striking range of the fortress. However, both my toons high enough to fight in WG are casters. Melee types may have different priorities. I dunno.

Woot! Tripping the Rifts! I didn’t have a lot of luck last night, but tonight I wandered around Icecrown and Zul’Drak and found the rifts I needed right away.

If I’m looking at what I think you want me to look at, that’s not a monkey face, that’s the back of a stylized glove. And no, nobody ever uses the little icon graphic to decide whether or not they should buy something.

You only need to look in Northrend for the daily quest item, and you can pick it from a rift someone else has closed. For the achievement, “low level” rifts closed will count.

Bossy? That picture is the one I saw every time I clicked on a Halloween bucket, I swear! The directions at that time said to click on it and stuff piled out of it, buddy, REALLY!

YES, it now does “represent” itself as a pair of gloves, but it LOOKS like the Halloween “monkeys” (or whatever you want to call them).

Thanks

… for helping me get Wolkie to 80.

You probably don’t realize how much this has meant to me, but believe it - WoW and y’all have been a major part of my life ever since I discovered this shitty sickness.

I love y’all. I really do.

Thank You!

Bill

Iceweb Spider silk selling for 33 gold??!??? I wish I was on that server :frowning:

Those gloves aren’t really worth it at level 75, most players will have a quest reward that is better at that level. Do you know anyone who can disenchant them? Infinite dust always sells.

Quasi, certain icons are used for a multitude of items. The glove icon that looks like a monkey face is used for the “handful of candy” you get from the candy buckets, but it’s also used for a lot of armor glove pieces as well (especially cloth armor, I think). If it’s not selling it’s probably priced too high.

Also, when I do WG, I usually try to take out vehicles as a top priority.

Don’t worry about getting feared a lot, or killed a lot. Both of those are normal parts of PvP. As you spend your Honor Points on better PvP gear, you’ll take less damage and you’ll have better resistance to being feared.

Also, and this is only related because it’s PvP, I hate Warsong Gulch. I’ve been doing a lot of random BGs and got stuck in there last night and we got our asses kicked (again). I’m noticing that in our group, Horde seems to win AB most of the time and Strand of the Ancients about half the time, but I’ve yet to see us win WSG or EotS yet. I haven’t been put in the others enough to tell.

Alliance finally claimed Wintergrasp while I was in a dungeon, so I rushed down there to complete the fishing daily with the Terrorfish. Only got ganked once!

Not having much luck with the rifts, only have one so far, and that’s because it’s all the hell over Dragonblight. This game has too many damn things that look like rifts.

Interesting. I have a similar experience with WSG (maybe 30% win rate, if that) and SotA, but in my experience Horde also wins EotS about 80-90% of the time.

Well my numbers may be skewed; I’ve run EotS less than five times recently. Haven’t won yet, though.

Yes - Charge and then click on Victory Rush.

Victory Rush is a special bonus attack you can make AFTER you start fighting your next opponent. Its name is somewhat misleading – it doesn’t actually allow you to charge your opponent like Charge does.

One thing to keep in mind is that Emberstorm (which includes Cairne) is part of the early testing of larger battleground finding. I’ve been running into significantly more pre-mades than usual since that started. Also, since arena season is over, folks that want to do organized PvP are pretty much stuck with BG pre-mades. Relatedly - WSG is the most common pre-made, because it only takes 10 to have a full team.

I’d suggest taking a look at the opponents team before it starts - if they’re all from the same realm, you’re probably screwed.

Makes sense. I think I’ve done one Alterac Valley fight and a couple Wintergrasps and that’s it since the new patch.

King Krush is mine!

Just tamed him in Sholazar, wow that was a little scary. Was making a quick fly by of the Loque spawn points before lunch and there he was! He feared me out of the first tame into a mob of wasps so I’m going “OMG I’m going to die! Someone else will tame/kill him!” I feign quickly, rocket boot away from the wasps, pop my haste pot/glove enchant and tame away. Got him! My hands were shaking and I was waiting for another fear to break the cast but it didn’t! He’s such a pretty dinosaur… now on to Loque’nahak, Arcturis, and Skoll.

For me, that was more exciting than killing the Lich King.
