Oh, it’s been just me, Varian, and Jaina on all three of my Alliance toons that have done it.
I just have to share this with y’all:
Last night I was doing WG, and as usual, because of my gear was getting our ass kicked.
Well, our raid leader (?) wrote in orange: “Build siege vehile!”
Well, not being one to pass something like that up, I wrote back, “What’s a vehile?”
Whereupon I of course got my dumb ass kicked and died.
She wrote back, “See? Got your ass kicked because you were typing, didn’t you?”
I love women like that. She can lead me anytime!
I hope I see her again sometime.
Thanks

All online games involve sending information back and forth between computers. Either between a client and a server or two peers. There are two methods of doing this. One is called TCP and the other is called UDP. TCP is like a military radio conversation where everyone is very formal with stuff like “over” and repeating information to verify it. TCP tries to ensure that information makes it to the other computer. UDP is like a music radio station. It just keeps broadcasting and assumes your listening. Because of this, UDP provides information much faster since it doesn’t waste time being certain about things. Since it’s faster, the overwhelming majority of games run on UDP. World of Warcraft, however, uses TCP because Blizzard didn’t think the speed mattered.
What the Leafix does is change the TCPAckFrequency setting in Windows to 1. Normally, it is set at 2. At two, it’ll only tell the WoW server to send it more information once it either has two acknowledgements waiting or 200 milliseconds pass. It wants to wait for a second acknowledgement because it’s faster to send two in one packet than to send the two over two packets. Changing it to one tells the game and everything else to never wait before asking for more information, which brings in the information faster. So it can lower your ping by 200 milliseconds in a perfect situation.
All of this information is sent in something called a packet, which is easiest to conceptualize as a parcel in the mail. One acknowledgement isn’t big enough to fill the parcel, so there is room for two. That’s why it’s more effective to wait for a second one. It is less wasted space. It isn’t a problem to leave things half empty, unless you’re running WoW, checking wowhead, talking on VoIP, and then your email client auto-checks for mail all at once. Then you’ve too many parcels and bad things happen (massive lag.) What exactly is “too many” depends on your computer.
The TCPAckFrequency is buried in Windows since they don’t want people to change it without a good reason for doing so. In WoW terms, it’ll generally make consistent connections better and spiky connections much worse. You don’t need to know how to find TCPAckFrequency, since it’s easier just to use that Leafix thing.
It’s months later than a lot of other guilds did it, but it’s still pretty exciting for us.
We got our first bunch the Kingslayer title.
So now little Arhiatlel has Kingslayer ahead of Kutkal which I had figured would happen given our comp, but oh well.
10% sneaked up on us – it was our last try, we had maybe four people dead since 2 of them ate Viles and I was trying to find a spot in the rhythm where I could mash Divine Hymn since our resto druid was almost OOM. But once we were all dead, everyone was yelling not to release and we all watched the thing through. My hands were shaking, and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one. bounces Lots of pictures were taken!
I did manage an awesome 392DPS on the LK with Devouring Plague during that last 10%.
FEAR MEH.
Palooka:
Thank you! I’m getting ready to sign onto WoW and see if it helped.
Thanks!

Asshole-motherfucking-slime head-piece of inbred, cross-dressing, needle-dick, constipated for a very long time TURD, doesn’t work anyway.
Uninstalling.
Thanks anyway

TCPAckFrequency won’t automatically work on versions of Windows XP before service pack 2 or Vista before service pack 1.
Quasi, I just wanted to say I think you’re rubbing off on me. Every time I finish a random dungeon I say ‘thanks y’all’ before I leave the party.
Kushiel, that’s sweet.
I gotta remember to do that more my own self!
In my experience, it’s pretty common to say something after a successful dungeon run. I “good run all” or something similar. Lately I’ve had a a couple of groups that gelled together particularly well, so we just queued up again and kept rolling. Group stayed together for 3-4 dungeons in a row, which was nice for leveling.
My namesake druid is 77 now. May hit 80 next weekend, then start gearing him best I can before Cata drops…
Anybody else notice that since the switch from “Frost badges for your first random heroic + Triumph badges for each boss downed” to “Justice Points for everything”, most RDF groups are once again doing all the “optional” bosses instead of just racing to the last one?
I like it.
Yep, with the exception of one Old Kingdom run, no one has asked to skip bosses so far, I guess that everyone that run heroics no are there for the Justice Points.
Hopefully Blizzard will design the instances in Cata so that there are no optional bosses, or at least make it so that the bonus points won’t be awarded until all the bosses in the instance are dead.
ANGRY KITTY IS VERY ANGRY.
Running Ahn’kahet, I die on last boss Herold Volazj. Party kills him and then runs onto the platform behind him. I say ‘rez plz? :(’ and then everyone says ‘later’ AND LEAVES THE PARTY.
I think the part that bothered me the most was that our first healer left group after an almost total wipe - I survived by Feigning Death. Then the new healer was portaled in right in the middle of the mob we didn’t finish killing. I thought it would be mean to just leave the new healer there to die, so I got up and managed to kill the mob.
I SAVED YOUR SORRY DOUCHE ASS. I THINK THAT DESERVED A COMPLIMENTARY REZ.
I’ve never died in there before so I had no idea where to go and just took the spirit rez hit.
I haven’t been able to play at all today. Latency has been over 4k. Sigh. Gonna try one more time in a few minutes. Would like to get at least a random dungeon in…
Is everyone still having latency issues? The thread has been slow as molasses the last couple of weeks. I’m getting worried! I hope Cata stirs things up again.
Or we could just get Shot From Guns to stop ‘quote sniping’ and make individual reply posts! ![]()
Well, for myself, I hit Exalted with Argent Dawn and got the Argent Champion achievement. It’s kind of tempting to keep going and try to get Exalted with as many factions as I can, but right now I’m finding more interest in getting my Mage up to 80.
I hit up Coldarra today and slammed through all the quests. Last time I went through there, I don’t think the RDF was in place, so I never really bothered with the dungeon quests. This time, I collected all the quests, queued up for The Nexus, and putzed around until a group formed. I’m a little nervous about running instances at-level due to lack of endgame abilities and talents, but the run went just fine. Sadly, though, even though I thought I was hot shit with my DPS outside instances (1.4-1.5k DPS and I’m still only 71, holy crap!), I wound up being #4 for the instance, clocking in at 1.2-1.3k DPS. :smack: I even remembered to use Deep Freeze on the bosses, so what’s up with that? (I actually screwed up and DFed Ormorok right as the fight started, so I pulled threat and gave the tank and healer a heart attack before the tank re-established threat. :smack::smack: No deaths, though.) I can only guess it’s because I tried to use Blizzard on groups of 4 or more which didn’t seem to have any appreciable effect; I probably would have been better off single-targeting everyone down.
I’ve really been getting into playing my draenei Arms warrior the last couple weeks. I’d been kind of ignoring her, seeing as how she hit level 70 way back in February (I think - my Achievements panel says she hit 60 and 70 on the same day, so who knows if the date itself is accurate.)
Aaaaaaanyway, she got to level 79 on Friday. I just couldn’t get in the mood to play WoW on Saturday for some reason, despite actually having the whole day off work (rare!), but Sunday I logged in my warrior and spent most of the day on her. Did her first-ever random LK dungeon - Normal Utgarde Pinnacle, where she got some nice new boots and 33000XP. She did the Crusader Bridenbrad quest chain, which I hadn’t done since my human paladin did it more than a year ago. That bumped her XP to the 87% mark between 79 and 80. Did her Exodar Valiant dailies, which got her to around 91%. Then I remembered she could do the Black Knight quests, and did those up through the next-to-last one, at which point she was told, “Come back when you’re a Champion”. Which left her sitting at 98%.
So I did what any reasonable person would do after patch 4.0.1: took her Saronite farming. Hey, 5250XP per vein!
That said, may I present Castariora, my fourth level 80 toon ![]()
(Hmm. And now the Armory says she hit both level 70 and 80 on the same day. The Armory is wack, man. I also redesigned my guild tabard about three weeks ago, but the Armory hasn’t noticed.
Grats!
I hit 70 on my DK over the weekend so it’s time to try to tank Northrend dungeons hopefully I wont suck at it because the abuse will be terrible. I haven’t found a rift yet either, are they random?
Had some PvP fun in Hellfire Penisula last night, while levelling my much-neglected mining skill. Noticed a couple horde at Broken Hill, lvl 80 and a lvl 60 guild mates. One popped up to take a look at me as I went past, so I carried on my way until he dropped down again. Doubled back and hid behind a wall. Avenging wrath on, popped out and hit the lvl 80 with a Hammer of Wrath, and finished him off with an Exorcism. Ran in and killed the lvl 60, and got control of the flag again.
Little while later I saw they were back again, so pulled the same trick. This time the lvl 80 flys straight up and out of range after my first hit. I get the flag back while he is off getting himself healed.
After some more farming I notice they are back again, and this time they’ve pulled in some more guild mates to help. There are now 2 lvl 80s, a 75 and a 60. I hide just around a wall, so that thanks to the 3rd party view I can see them but they can’t see me. Eventually a lvl 80 undead warlock wanders a bit too close to me, and I pop out and kill him. Mananged to survive the incoming barrage by jumping down the cliff to get out of range, and flying away.
Still later, and I noticed a lvl 60 alliance player buzzing around Broken Hill. Take a look, and there are now 7 horde there, mostly guild-mates. I guess someone else must have attacked them, as they aren’t flagged for PvP. They seem a bit undecided on their tactics, some fly off to the stadium (thinking about simultaneous capture?), but then come back again. They keep sending up watchers, and I fly off to farm when they do, to look as innocent as possible, but they aren’t posting a permanent watch. By now there are a couple low-level alliance players buzzing them, which is a useful distraction. Eventually they flag PvP to capture, and I kill the lvl 75 before making my escape. Obviously, I can’t prevent the capture, but when they fly off to Overlook to capture it, I sneak back in. As soon as the flag ticks to neutral again, I fly off south, and loop clockwise to the Overlook, using the valleys to stay out of sight. Most of the horde have gone south to Broken Hill, hoping to catch me, but there are a couple stragglers hovering over the flag. They think they are safe, but they aren’t quite high enough. I pop up, land on the edge of the roof and kill them both.
Good fun, real cat & mouse stuff.
