New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I’d run a bunch of instances and earn some new gear that way, from drops and purchased with Justice Points. I’m assuming you’ll have to survive the start of Cata to get to the nice drops. Plus in instances, most people will expect you’ll have at least some good gear left over from Wrath to help you along.

If you’re the last person in a group with a linkdeader, you can vote to kick the linkdead person (unless your group has kicked a bunch of people already).

Yes, I’ve been running a few 5 man heroic instances, and I’ve also dabbled in PvP seriously for the first time. Think I have about 600 justice and 500 honour points. I dropped about 4k in the auction house on some lvl 264 boots and a lvl 245 chest piece. As a DPS, the priority for me right now is a weapon upgrade, and I’ve identified a couple potential drops in the Pit of Saron if I can get it unlocked. I’ll probably spend some of my points upgrading a couple of the weaker slots, but I’m thinking it might make sense for me to horde the bulk of my cash and points to get something more lasting after Cataclysm comes out, instead of blowing it all on intermediate upgrades. Does that sound like a sensible plan to people?

It turns out that the Champions’ Seal economy doesn’t work like I thought it did. I’m disappointed. I thought you got Champion’s Seals by defeating champions (like, you get one for each champion you defeat)…duh. Gonna take a little while longer to get the mounts and pets than I thought it would, I guess. I figured I could collect around 24 seals an hour by just fighting champions while I had the daily and I’d have everything in about a week…hah!

I did get in a lot of practice in jousting last night because of that misunderstanding, though. I guess that’s a silver lining.

ETA: Yeah, I’ve been basically ignoring Argent Tournament for a LONG time, thus my ignorance of how things up there work. I’m just worried they’re going to remove the tournament with Cata, since (ICC spoiler) Arthas is probably going to be officially dead (rather than just dead in the phased world of Kingslayers) and so the reason for the Crusade even BEING in Northrend is basically done, let alone the reason for everyone working together and the need for a unifying system like the Tournament being obsolete.

They’re not changing much in in Northrend. The whole zone is going to be in the past, before the events of Cataclysm. So all the instances are still going to be there, even if they don’t make sense anymore because of Cataclysm, and the same goes for the tournament.

Oh, good! My future achievements aren’t being yanked away!

Arthas is dead, but the Lich King still exists, though the general populace isn’t told how. No reason to not keep up the tournament.

Pictures a future of votes won by unanimity Thanks!

I should add - the moment of my ascension to lvl l80 wasn’t exactly trumpets and glory. I picked a herb.

Indeed. Consider the state of the Eastern Plaguelands, where the Argent Dawn (not Crusade) still labors to purge Stratholme and assault Naxxramas… except that Naxx isn’t there any more. And they haven’t really noticed, except that they don’t offer the Naxx (lvl 60) raid cookie crumb quests any more.

Blizz has very rarely completely decommissioned old rep grind content. (Ever? I can’t remember.) The only example I can come up with is still future, with Zul’gurub and the Zandarlar rep grind going away after Cata goes live.

Even if I offer to buy a mess of their chitlins?

Additionally, I’m at a skill level where I don’t need frostweave cloths to make bandages yet, so instead of selling them, I am banking them for use later.

Who is the questgiver for tripping the elementals? I thought I’d picked that one up but it was the subdue the elementals one.

Thanks

The only ones I can think of were the Wildhammer clan (and Revantusk trolls?), but those were pointless to begin with, I think Zul’Gurub will be the first instance and associated rep grind that will flat out removed.
I recall seeing a post by Ghostcrawler where he said that they don’t want to remove old content without a good reason.

There’s no questgiver for Tripping the Rifts. You just show up at an open rift and start fighting. When the rift closes, you get the buff. Once you’ve had all four buffs on you, you get the achievement Tripping The Rifts. If you’re at a rift at your level (for you, that would be ones in Northrend), you just right-click on the Mysterious Device the rift leaves behind when it closes and accept that quest, then go to Stormwind (or Ironforge, Darnassus or Exodar) and find the NPC that you turn it in to. Then just finish the quest the way you’d normally complete any quest.

The turn-in for Mysterious Device is a daily, so you can only do it once a day, but you can repeat it every day as long as the event runs, if you happen to come across an open rift. If you happen to be there when a rift opens (or come across one afterward…you don’t have to have closed the rift to get the daily), it’s decent money for a simple turn-in quest (13 gold, I think).

I do have a question about Loremaster. Are they resetting the whole thing (so if you only have Northrend to finish, you would have to go back and do the new old world stuff) or getting rid of it altogether, or are they leaving it alone?

My main got it from exploring something in Sholazar Basin. Don’t ask me how come I still remember that.

Awesome! Grats, alka seltzer! Thanks, jayjay. I saw Rik’s
previous post, and wondered why I didn’t have it although I’ve been fighting some in one of the lands.

Oh, I almost forgot…I finally saved enough gold to get the Master Flying last night! Yay, fast flyer!

WooT!

BTW, I am having trouble with the quest Proving Grounds in Alterac Valley. Supposed to recapture a flag and turn it in, but where that new quest arrow says to go isn’t where those caves/mine are. Where it leads, is grassland… Thotbot’s map wasn’t any help.

Thanks

Yes! A thousand times yes!

Hell, I was a Draenai Shaman and I STILL referred to him as “Oh, you mean Archdruid Asshole?”

Is that the snotty guy in Danassus who sent me grubbing for soil samples in Un’Goro Crater?
