That Alterac Valley battle thing. Thanks, SFG. I thought he was just giving me a quest. Shit, I must have spent 15 minutes hunting that damn thing.

Feh, Jaina’s a hippie. Besides, humans break too easily.
Thrall: “Hey baby, let’s get busy!”
Jaina: Sigh “All I ever wanted to do was study!”
I understand the game reasons why they put the statue up. I’m saying that from a lore perspective it’s deeply stupid. It’s clear from the dialogue in the cutscene that *no one *is supposed to know what happened outside those who were physically present.
What I use for monitoring my threat, in combination:
1.) Omen. Essential for monitoring your threat on a single target. You can see at a glance how much of a lead you have, who’s creeping up on you, etc.
2.) Tidy Plates: Threat Plates. This one has been mentioned already, but it’s great. You can have nameplates change size, color, and transparency based on how much threat you have.
3.) Grid. Even better than a little, easy-to-miss red glow around a portrait, I have Grid set up to change the health color of any player who has aggro. So, if a box is solid red, I know I’ve got something to peel off them.
That’s actually incorrect. All aggro percentages are measured versus the person the mob is currently attacking. This means that when you’re a tank with aggro, your threat will always be 100%, and the plate will always be green–whether there’s nobody else attacking that mob or whether there’s a DPS about to peel off you. Yellow comes into play when you’re at a high level of threat for something that’s not yet attacking you.
Confirming what **DigitalC **said, this is wrong. You will at a minimum be able to buy 85 blues with JP, unless something changes.
That’s exactly what I said. My WAG was that the achievements you’ve already earned, you’ll keep; the achievements you haven’t finished yet, you’ll lose credit for any quest that’s no longer in the game.
Well, the mere presence of the statue supports the official story: “Tirion Fordring, supported by an elite band of heroic adventurers, defeated and slew the Lich King. the Scourge is no more! Yaaaaay!”
And the animation players can see when they “read the nameplate”? Presumably, that doesn’t happen when everyone else looks at the statue. Just us players. That happens “outside the game”. (Which is how it diverges from The Wrathgate, where the animation is the event as the world knows it.)
But your original wording was:
i.e. you didn’t say “[for] the achievements you haven’t finished yet…” Which led to my brain going, “Bwuh? Why would they take away quest credit when you’ve already earned the achievement?” Admittedly, I probably would have gotten what you meant if I’d thought about it a bit more, but still. I was also factoring in my possibly-incorrect recollection that jayjay already has the EK/Kalimdor achievements completed.
That said, I still doubt that you’d lose quest credit for removed quests. The requirements are simply to complete a certain number of quests - any quests (aside from a handful that don’t count for one reason or another), not “Complete this list of specific quests”. If the latter was the requirement, then I could see the possibility.
Ok, I tried to purchase that sword with my honor points from Nargle Lashcord, and all of the stuff he vendors requires arena level rating of 1800 or something. What would be the next best 2h pvp sword with just honor or JP points? I’m tempted to keep using my Citadel Enforcer’s Claymore since it’s the next step down…unless their is a lvl258 pvp sword that I haven’t discovered. I wouldn’t mind dabbling in arenas with a few other guildies although I don’t know how much effort and time is needed to reach the needed arena ratings.
Still trying to figure out or find a site that has definitive hard cap stats for pally tanking and ret pvp wrt 4.0. The pve ret stats are pretty much set and easy to look up in Elitist Jerks, but the threads for pve pally tanking and pvp ret pallies suck. Anyone else found a better source yet?
Got “Tripping the Rifts” last night; had to go back and knock out the wind and fire elementals again since I didn’t get the buff from one of them last week. I thought back then that getting the mysterious device was enough for the achievement, but now I know better.
Got the Ony25 and More Dots! achieves last night from a cool group of puggers, pretty much read the wowiki a minute before the fight and survived. Then after we took her down, got the loot distributed (me got squat), and half of the group left, some clown decided to round up some whelps and drag them into the center of the room…kind of caught me by surprise (I was looking up something else)…and died.
Did another VoA10 after we sucessfully defended WG (we are actually improving as Horde!) and made another quick run taking down all four bosses for easy JPs. If you do find yourself doing WG and you win, immediately teleport/hearth back to Dal and get yourself into a VoA ASAP.
I’m stockpiling points again rather quickly now, got Honor back up to 3700 and JP to 3800, AND under 100g away from 20k. I’m hoping to catch another big break like I did when 4.0 came out.
Seems like all the central characters of each expansion are evil. Does it HAVE to be that way or can they not have “The Rise of the Savior: Prince DoRight Returns to Azeroth.”?
Also, are any of y’all doing that pre-pay for the Cat expansion that appears on the entry page?
Thanks

Re: weapon upgrades. I’m slowly easing Wolkie up on his swords from the AH, but sometimes the damage rating for the sword is really miniscule or the really good ones are astronomically high.
I’m just glad that all my BG guys and gals take it all in stride that I have crappy gear and die a lot. Usually someone’s there to heal me and I always click on them and use my “thanks” button. Don’t know if they notice, 'cause things happen so fast in a BG.
That’s because the central characters of most of the expansions are the “Big Bads”, as they say. The silithids and their Old God masters in Vanilla, Illidan and Kael’thas in Burning Crusade, the Lich King in Wrath, and Deathwing in Cataclysm are all central because they’re the Enemy. I imagine that the culmination of Cata is going to be a raid to take down Deathwing, just as the culmination of Wrath is ICC 10/25, and the culmination of Crusade is Black Temple and the Sunwell, and the culmination of Vanilla was Temple of Ahn’qiraj.
Having a hero as the central character of an expansion makes for a pretty lousy endgame…what’s the culminating raid? “Throw Back A Brewski With Prince Perfect”?
It doesn’t necessarily have to be that way, but the majority of players only care about who they’ll be fighting next. The heroes are important, but they’re not the threat the players are going after.
Become a general and screw his wife?
Well I’m all for killing a goodie two shoes for my epix but i think most people would have a problem with being the bad guys.

Have you tried Maintankadin? That’s a pretty good tanking site to get info from. I’m happy to answer any questions if you happen to catch me in game.
An elite band of *all male *adventurers, apparently. Did anybody else notice that about the statue?
Sorry, I assumed it was obvious from the fact that I started by talking about the achievements you’d already completed that the second part would be talking about the ones you hadn’t.
How do you think the game is going to track whether or not you’ve completed quests that are no longer *in *the game? I doubt they’re keeping a separate table for every character that existed before Cata just to see which old quests the character finished.
Well, it is World of Warcraft.
Personally, I’ve pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition from Amazon.
It goes beyond that. 4 statues: 2 identical male orcs with rather savage-looking poleaxes, and two identical male humnas with somewhat more sleek-looking greataxes. And the shields? The Horde shield is the Shield of Orgrimmar… inescutcheoned with the seals of Thunder Bluff, The Undercity, and the Darkspear Trolls. The Alliance shield is the Seal of Stormwind with insets for Ironforge, Darnassus, and the Gnomes… no Silvermoon or Exodar! If I were a Belf or a Draenei, I’d feel quite slighted.
Thanks for the link…I’m trying to figure out the caps needed wrt 4.0, if you know them off the top of your head, for Belf Pally.
The way those are showing up red is apparently a “bug”. As I understand it, you can now actually buy PvP gear that requires an Arena Rating of 2000 or lower without needing to actually have that rating. I haven’t personally confirmed this, though, as I simply don’t have enough Honor Points ATM to buy any of it.
Well duh. Girls don’t play videogames! ![]()
And like I said, if I’d given it more thought I would have realized that. My bad there.
By not tracking specific quests at all (for the purpose of the achievements). Just like any other in-game record of “# of X”, simply increment a number each time you complete a quest. Like my character’s record of total deaths — it just needs to track, “Died? +1”. It doesn’t need to track how, where, or when I died, just the fact that I did. If it needs to track specific types of deaths (by falling, drowning, or at the hands of another player), it can track each type separately. Just like my car’s odometer increments the same regardless of whether I drive on the highway or on city streets or on back roads. If I want to break down how many miles I drive between fillups, I can track that separately via my car’s “trip odometer” (if it has one) or by writing down the mileage at each fillup and doing the math myself.
Of course, I’m WAGging here myself.
Did you actually try to buy it–click it, confirm you were willing to spend honor for the item?
Because my mage is walking around with the Wrathful Gladiator’s Staff of Focus (or something like that). He has no arena rating. Has never done arena as a level 80. Did a little bit of arena at 70 pre-Wrath. IIRC, while the item description still says the rating requirement is there, the vendor will sell the items regardless of rating.
I don’t think I did…I will give it a go tonight or tomorrow…I want that sword.
