Judging by how long it took me to download the “extra” data after prepaying, the immense majority of the data is already applied, even without prepayment. After all, the new talent trees, spellbooks, changes to glyphs (and to glyph recipes), etc are already affecting everybody. The mechanisms for having the new stuff available only to those who’ve upgraded their accounts are already in place; the mechanisms for having it only available from a certain date sound similar to whatever they use for calendar events.
The invasion repeats every 3 hours, at different times on the two sides for any given server.
Keep forgetting to say: congratulations and felicitatory wishes, Zeriel! what? I congratulate people in Gnomish!
Wow. I wondered about this. On my hunter, while Org was fighting off an earth elemental portal, I think every Horde 80 on the Azgalor server turned up to polish off the last few elementals. I have never seen so much spell effects at once. My machine handled it with ease ( <- smug grin) but I think people may have disconnected, it was so intense.
It’s pretty heavy. I’m pretty sure the baseline hardware required to run the game well has increased with time, even if these increases haven’t been documented or officially discussed.
Spontaneous mammoth train. They happen now and again. Sometimes also happen with bears or other mounts.
I don’t think that was a Blizzard event. I think that was just somebody kiting Kazzak to SW.
Ah, Quasi–everybody’s favorite creeper.
Sounds like a different bug completely. And that one doesn’t just affect Belves–I’ve seen it on lots of my characters ever since the beginning of Wrath.
Congratulations! And yeah, isn’t that ability a heart-stopper? If you’re focusing on doing your job instead of glancing over at the LK’s HP it can really freak the hell out of you.
It is pretty fine gear for single-boss fights with relatively simple mechanics (I think Gazh’rilla’s the worst of the bunch… bubble and heal? WTF!). But to put it in perspective, it’s ilvl 251 gear, roughly equivalent to ICC10, but the one item my hunter saw that was even remotely appealing (Amulet of the Centauri) is, ungemmed, a dead heat with my ilvl 245 Charge of the Eredar (25-man ToC). (In this case, I judged it’s almost a trade-down, since i’d give up 7 crit and 2 agi for 5 haste, 1 stam, and 1 yellow socket. Yeah, I could socket a red +20 agi, so it’s would be a gain in the final analysis, but I didn’t qq much when I didn’t make the roll on it. Maybe next time.)
In general, I don’t think the gear is a “WOOHOO!” improvement for even a casual raider, but alts… yeah. I really should have gotten on my alts last night. Maybe tonight.
Yeah, I’ve gotten a couple of similar ones to those in my work email, fercryinoutloud. Work email address is in no way connected to my battle.net ID/email address. Sheesh.
Worst part was he turned to me just as he did it, so my brain interprets that as “Oh god he can one-shot me without even taking a swing! oh god oh god”
Burning Dog Legion didn’t have the right group for ICC last night (again, although it was close). But we did team up and clear Orgrimmar of the elemental attackers and then ported over to TB and helped with the cleanup there, and then split up to take on the fire/earth bosses. Both my main and my alt are in mostly T10/ICC10 gear so I’m not really getting any upgrades, but it was still fun to do something different.
Maybe, but I’ve been playing since the beginning of Wrath, yet never seen it before until 4.0.1, where it began happening nearly every play session. And even then only my Belf Mage was getting stuck in an alternate animation, never my Tauren Druid.
Yeah, I’m not particularly worried about my mage doing these bosses for gear. He’s rocking like 5700 GS, so not much chance of an upgrade for him except maybe the sandals.
However, my druid just turned 80, so it was very much a WOOHOO! moment when he got the boots. Think they are called Flame Walker Treads, or something like that.
Here’s the Wowhead blog page, including the loot table (around the middle of the page).
For non-raiders, the necklaces at least are the best you can get without raiding. The backs, waists, rings, etc., are on-par or inferior to Justice Point buys, and T10 is as good as any of the main pieces available. For feet, the only thing routinely available that might be better would be crafted from ICC plans, and those can be expensive (on AH) or materials-intensive (self-crafted).
For all of that, the phat lewtz are besides the point, IMHO. The event is fun!. I may never go back on my main, having gotten all 4 boss kills and concluded the quest chains in town. But it was a blast doing it.
Heh. My friend the tank got both of the tanking upgrades he could use on his DK in our first run of all four bosses; they were serious upgrades, too, as he doesn’t raid much. Alas, though, there aren’t any upgrades for my 'lock; I was hoping there’d be bracers, since I’m still rocking the 245s, and even the Lady’s Brittle Bracers aren’t much of an optimized upgrade (too much hit! I’ve got myself within 10 of hit cap, and I’d like to stay there). Of course, thanks to reforging, my gear’s min-maxed all to Hell and back, so I’m really quite happy with it.
But the Stormwind battle was epic and fun. I even died! In Stormwind! So awesome.
Oh no no no no no… It’s not obvious from a static screenshot, but this was no train. Trains move. This was simply everybody sitting on their mammoths on top of the event questgivers, and not moving. For hours and hours. Sample /yell’d exchange during this, demonstrating the maturity level of those who camp out on mammoths in cities:
Yeller #1: WTF? Why are all these mammoths here?
Yeller #2: They’re here because you don’t have a mammoth!
Yeller #3: Get with the club, noob!
According to a post on the official forums, something similar happened on the Cenarion Circle server, and a GM arrived and instructed everybody to dismount and stop blocking the questgivers. When compliance was not forthcoming, mammoths and their riders began to vanish into thin air as suspensions were handed out
Yeah, looking at the loot tables, I think I saw a ring and a necklace that would be upgrades for my paladin. Fire boss dropped the plate tank chest and I rolled Greed, and didn’t care that that I lost to the actual tank, who Needed. The water boss dropped some cloth piece, which I passed on.
Did not like Gahz’rilla at all. What kept killing me was the repeatedly getting tossed in the air and then hitting the ground. I could have dealt with that if there was consistently some indication that I was about to get tossed. Sometimes the small cluster of crystals appeared under/near me, sometimes it didn’t. Healer was complaining that the iceblock she kept getting hit with (preventing her from casting for the duration) was way too long.
Anyway, surgery in about 40 minutes, so I need to get. See y’all when I’m home!
Are there any achievements associated with this event? SW/IF are insta-disconnects for me until the killing is done.
I got the 4 quests before each of the bosses, but are there any quests regarding the city attacks? I see there are npcs around that will give you a cleansing totem, but I haven’t found any quest givers.
I lucked out and managed to get an excellent group and we were able to plow through and do the bosses 7 times before we ran out of time. Of course, the past 3 attacks, rogue gear drops when I’m on my paladin, and paladin gear drops when I’m on my rogue. sigh
Oh, then it’s just dicks being dicks. Put in a ticket and name as many names as you can. I see from your post that GMs are aware of the issue on other servers, so you can probably have good luck doing that.
Also, if you put friendly nameplates up (Shift+V), that often works.
Well, geographically, isn’t the big damage supposed to be happening in the middle of each continent (the Barrens cut in half, something or other happening in the middle of the Eastern Kingdoms)? Lordaeron is way off to the north, relatively speaking.
No, TB is usually a ghost town. I think the point isn’t to hit the most *popular *cities, but to hit the two linked cities on each continent. So the Alliance gets IF and SW, which are both in the Eastern Kingdoms and connected by the Tram or a single-leg taxi, while the Horde gets Org and TB, which are both in Kalimdor and connected by a zep, a single-leg taxi, or a (relatively) short run.
Thanks for the link. The mdps necklace would be a great upgrade for me. The mdps ring would be a sidegrade (maybe a bit of an upgrade); going from AGI -> STR would be a better move with the new dynamics for a ret pally. Maybe get an extra ring to stick a big old +34 resilience gem on it for a PvP equip, and still get +4 STR bonus. Hopefully, us guildies can keep doing what we did last night.
Another thing…is anyone getting error messages when using the game launcher? Mine will try to open the launcher and then say the internet settings need to be adjusted by the administrator which is the account I play on. Same thing with the repair program. I called Blizzard and they told me that I should temporarily disable my Anti-virus software ( I have AVG 9.0 subscription), but I can’t even find a way to disable the damn thing…hmmmm…maybe I need to go to the Windows Task Manager to end the running programs. I also tried going into safe mode w/networking to fix the issue, but I still got the same error messages…I am so tempted to re-install the entire WoW package. I will probably have to make a decision tonight once I found out if there is a patch today that I can’t download without the new launcher feature. The launcher did work fine last time we had the patch a couple of weeks ago…but now, I can only cross my fingers later tonight.
