What OS are you running? If it’s Vista, just because you’re on an administrator account doesn’t mean you’re running programs as an administrator. Try right-clicking the icon and selecting “Run as Administrator.”
If you want to turn your anti-virus off, you need to go in and disable active scanning.
Alternatively, get rid of AVG. It’s gotten clunkier and clunkier over the years. On the advice of a lot of people here, I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials a while back, and I’ve been very happy with its performance.
That was my first special event since getting up to 80. I liked it. But I am a little confused (oooh, a surprise!). People kept on asking for/giving out raid invitations during the part where you fight the two sets of elementals in the city streets.
Why?
A green box with all my raid-mates names popped up and took over very important screen real estate. Is there any way to get rid of it?
Also,
Does it matter which boss you queue for in terms of loot drops? The wowhead page only lists the drops, but doesn’t specify which boss.
Is it bad karma to choose need for a tanking item if my role in the party is DPS? What if I wait to see if the actual tank greeds or disenchants?
For all my lack of DPS, I kept stealing aggro from the DK tank that we got. Luckily, the healer was both observant and speedy.
Being in a raid with others gives you the ability to give/receive buffs that only work on party/raid members – like pally auras, for example. Even for buffs that can be shared outside a party, like priests’ Fortitude, it’s easier to buff a whole raid at once.
And, being in a raid is especially helpful for folks like healers. May heals are party/raid wide, and it’s a lot easier to healers to see who needs healing if you’re in their party/raid.
For one thing, it makes it much easier for healers to see who needs healing, and tanks to see who has aggro. There may be other reasons as well; I don’t know.
The general protocol is to say “may I need?” and be willing to take “no” for an answer.
I do not know. Maybe because it’s easier for tanks and healers? I’ve never had a healer, maybe most of them set up their heal addons to only work on party/raid members.
There’s a green arrow on the left or right side, hard to see. I can’t remember how I found it in the first place, lol. There is a minimize thing though, just click around for it.
Anecdotal data, but I found Gahz’rilla dropped more plate than Prince Blahblah. Don’t know if there’s actually something to it.
Usually people ask if they can roll Need ‘for offspec’. I’d just ask, if tank doesn’t respond, roll Need.
Not to mention, if the installation of WoW isn’t corrupt, there’s a good chance it won’t fix anything.
Buffs, heals, tanking, kill credits.
There should be something on the edge you can click to collapse it.
It’s bad form to roll on more than one spec of items as your “main” spec as a hybrid, which includes waiting to see what drops and then deciding what you’re going to focus on. Your “main” spec for a run is generally assumed to be the role you are currently filling. If you would like another spec to be your main for that run, you should really inform the group before you kill anything. That way, you can bow out if the tank doesn’t want competition for the gear that they need *and *are willing to do the harder job to get.
It’s definitely easier for me to see who needs healing if people are in party or raid with me. Otherwise I’d have to turn on nameplates and then hunt for people in the chaos which is pretty inefficient.
The elementals/rifts are a bitch to kill if you have less than a raid available. However, rescuing citizens and putting up barricades is fun.
I had the same problem this morning with the launcher. After google searching I found a thread where someone suggested toggling “work offline” in Internet Explorer. Worked like a charm. Turned it off and then back on and downloader started right up. Even if IE is not your primary browser I would give it a shot.
Well, my 80s have already done the quests from those questgivers there, so it wasn’t affecting me directly.
I was just thinking … the Department of Transportation (or whoever is responsible for these things) in the “real world” puts height and weight restrictions on certain roads. I don’t see any reason why Blizzard can’t do the same thing:
“That mount exceeds the [city name] mount height and weight limitations decreed by [insert city ruler’s name here]. Please select a smaller mount.”
Also, I seem to be ambulatory much more quickly than I anticipated after my surgery today. Vicodin! Yeah! Vicodin! I think it would be wise, though, to skip any group endeavors for the next couple days. After all, one of my post-surgery instructions says, “DON’T make any important decisions.”
I need someone to give me a short-course as to what’s going on.
I’m trying to log into my alt (Double L) in SW, but it doesn’t look the same. I can’t find a mailbox, and there are all of these portals mages asking me if I want out of the city. Since that seems to be my only alternative, I choose it and then have to run all the way in again.
Also, for Wolkie himself, I’m not sure what y’all are trying to get me to do as far as those quests you mentioned. How do I even start on those?
All I have right now is Wintergrasp and the Call to Arms BG’s.
And my stuff (leather and spider silk) has all of a sudden stopped selling at all, and it isn’t that I am over-pricing it (I undercut almost everybody) - it just stopped selling.
And the lag is worse than it has ever been.
Sorry, I don’t mean to belly-ache. I just don’t understand what’s happening in the game right now.
Quasi, remember when you went to find the elemental rifts and get the buffs from them? Well, this is a little farther along the timeline…the actual invasion is happening right now. This is all leading up to the release of Cataclysm. The event only happens once every three hours or so in (I think) Stormwind and Ironforge. I haven’t been in-game since it began, so I can’t speak from experience or anything, just by what I read.
I also think the bikes are out of place so it’s not just you.
If I see that +Agility neck one more time….ran the event bosses over and over on my lock for gear and only one useful item dropped and I lost the roll. Any of the spell dps gear will be a massive upgrade so I was an angry gnome last night…
I have hit a wall levelling my DK at 71 – I really can’t face Dragonblight again. This is my first expansion so not sure what happened last time but as I understand it Blizzard changed the levelling in Outland to go faster when Wrath hit is this correct? If so how soon after release did this happen? Anyone heard similar for Cataclysm? I need to get to 75 as she is my Enchanter and Scribe.
