I assume we’re talking exclusively about BoP pets, which AFAIK can’t be vendored.
ETA@gnoitall:
You know that those pets out of the eggs used to go for really good money on the AH, right? I’m not sure if they still do, but even when the market was flooded you could usually get at least a few gold for them.
I took guild-control there a few months ago. I have an 80 Rogue with a PvP set I occasionally play on. (When I want to get away from it all) I bought a couple bank tabs. Hit me up if anyone wants an invite.
On a non-pvp server, careless AoE is a damn fine way to unintentionally flag yourself. I’ve known quite a few lurkers who flag themselves, stealth/shadowmeld/just stay in flight above an area, and enter the vicinity of an enthusiastic but non-flagged AoEr. One tick of Consecrate and they’re fair game! Mwahahaha!
Probably overstated, but a real possibility. Not a problem on my realm; a PvP server flags your butt about as soon as your foot hits the sidewalk outside your house. There’s no safety, so no point trying to stay safe.
Still, some folks don’t have AoE any more (damn blizz… Give me back my Volley!). Anyway, I can down most grindy targets in 1-2 GCDs; it’d actually take longer to gather up a bunch and AoE them down, back when I could AoE.
I think it comes down to class (and spec). As you said, pallies probably could. Prot pallies could probably faceroll it. My huntard can’t, even in T10/ICC25/ToC25 stuff, in a pet-survivability BM build. Beyond impossible in MM, with the greater squishiness of my only tank (pet). Priest? Possibly. Maybe a well-geared disc could. Enhance sham, maybe, if geared well. Maelstrom Weapon and Spirit Wolves might throw up enough nearly-free healing to make that feasible.
Yes, depending on the class. My DK tank, in almost full 277 gear, can do it with ease. My mage, also in nearly full 277, can’t (at least not in Fire spec. I haven’t tried it in Frost). I’m not sure about the other classes, but I would say it probably would be easy for platewearers, difficult but doable for some, and close to impossible for a few.
I love that quest where you have to kill 15 of those guys outside the Tourney grounds. Devouring Plague, Shadow Word: Pain, tab to the next mob. Usually they’ll die just as they reach me so I don’t have to go far to loot the bodies.
Yeah, they used to sell. I’ve made a few tens of G on them. But the last 3 or 4 I tried went unsold. The market is down. Pet grinders already have 'em, and no one else cares. And the pet grinders are holding their wallets closed in anticipation of the wondrous new pets to come out of Cat.
Hmm, both my toons have gear level average in the 260s. I might give it a try with the priest… maybe with Mindsear he’d be able to take down the trash fast enough. I’m not sure about that PvP event, though; probably wouldn’t make it through that.
Because no one but the vendors would buy. I used to make decent money, or at least break-even money on the AH, but, as you say, “depending on market”. And the AH market for those pets on my realm is a near-guaranteed non-sale. Throwing the pets away loses me less money then repeatedly losing auction deposit.
Send me a tell on Jag - I’ve been trying to finish up some BC heroics, and would be happy to offer my turtle and my bow. If that doesn’t work then I’ll just bring the tank.
Also: Any BDLers interested in running Zul’Gurub before it disappears (possibly next Tue)?
Retribution. Paladin. I have a grand total of two AOE attacks. One has a 36-second cooldown, and the other one requires Holy Power, which I don’t have until I hit something something first with my Crusader Strike. The entire focus of ret paladins is burst damage against single targets.
Which is why it’s necessary for that rogue to run across the zone and attack the mob that had already aggroed on me but that I hadn’t had a chance to tag, rather than attack that other mob that was closer to him to begin with (yes, I saw him over there, which is why I chose the mobs in other direction to attack).
Exactly. With my pally’s level of gear, I can usually kill a non-elite level 80 mob in 1-2 hits. Kill, loot, run to next mob, repeat. It would indeed take longer to try to gather them all up, which I’d have to do via body-pulling, and in that case they still wouldn’t be tagged until I actually hit them with something (apparently my Retribution Aura’s “return damage” no longer tags enemies, if it ever did, so I have to deliberately hit my target in order to tag it, and in any case a spellcaster isn’t taking damage from my ret aura), leaving them wide open for that priest or warlock to stand there in one place picking them off with DoTs while they’re chasing me around. And if I do manage to gather up a crowd without somebody else tagging them, Consecrate just doesn’t do enough damage to quickly AoE the crowd down - I still have to stop and hit things. And on that Kul the Reckless quest, you also have to loot keys and let people out of cages, so it’s more efficient to unlock the nearest cage each time you loot a key than it is to kill everything at once, collect all the keys, and then make a circuit of the cages.
EDIT: And of course, a ret paladin doesn’t have near the armor and HP of a prot paladin or prot warrior, so there is a limit to how many level 80 mobs I can have beating on me at one time.
I don’t know about Terokk, but my pally soloed Ikiss in Sethekk Hall last Pilgrim’s Bounty for the title, and that was before I ever started gearing her through heroics, and of course she was also wearing a few pieces of pilgrim attire instead of her regular armor. It did take some work, though. I imagine it would be a piece of cake for her this year.
Crap, the Tournament dailies, “Among the Champions”, “Threat From Above” and “Taking Battle to the Enemy” are only paying 2g, 20s, 50c! “Battle Before the Citadel” is paying 7g 40s, though.
My pally flew over and did some Sons of Hodir dailies, and when accepting the quests they said 13g 23s, but on turnin they were only 7g 40s each.
I just left. No one knows what in the FUCK is going on. The AH can’t be accessed and everything is just too fucked up for me to understand. Fuck this motherfucking pile of steaming donkey shit.
My druid is making out like a bandit with these event bosses. Got the boomkin boots, ring, neck, and back. Have to check the loot table to see if there’s anything else I want. Also farming JPs. Prolly gonna grab a belt upgrade, then save for T10 hat.
