New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Move your bank alt to Darnassus or Exodar, and stay out of SW and IF with your main for the next couple weeks, and you won’t have those problems.

 UMADBRO?

Take Oaks advise Quasi. Darn and Exo are safe. As long as the elemental attacks are happening SW & IF are going to be madhouses and if you try asking other players most will think you are trolling them and ignore you or say something rude to you.

Yeah it’s a bug from here World of Warcraft

* The gold given for completing most quests at level 80 has been drastically reduced

[/QUOTE]

Finally had something useful drop off the event bosses for my lock alt, the robe which is for heals really but still a big upgrade for me, and got enough JP to get some new shoes. Next run I hit 4.5k DPS which is about 1.5K DPS more than previously, nice. Gear helped but also finally getting the rotation down and timing my Hand of Guldan Immolate refreshes to perfection. This is good as I want to level her to 85 first as she is my miner and I want to some of that early expansion farming action.

Thanks for the heads up regarding professions a few pages ago looks like more than level 75 needed then. In good news Experience required to gain levels 71 through 80 is being reduced by 20% in patch 4.03a!

Looks like it will be time to pull my level 71 pally/alchemist out of retirement and run him to 80 before Cata hits. (Though I’ll also want to dink around with a Troll druid to see the new Echo Isles noob zone.)

Did a heroic run late last night. I can never rememebr the names of the dungeons, but it was the one with King Dred. When I tried to skin him, I got an error, saying it now requires 455 skinning skill to take his hide. Is this a bug, or an intentional change?

Sounds like a bug to me. (There are glove enchants that will increase your skinning skill, though I don’t know if they’ll take it above 450; might be worth buying a pair of crappy vendor gloves and getting em enchanted against this happening again, as I doubt this bug will be at the top of Blizzard’s priority list).

I did a Google search and found links to several threads in the forums asking if this is a bug. However, I can’t actually read the threads from work so I don’t know what the answer is. It seems bogus to make the requirement 455 when it’s impossible to train that high yet.

Depending on the combination you get on the third boss it is not impossible as a MM hunter. I did it once without much trouble, but then the next day I got Eramas Brightblaze and Warlord Salaris which did make it impossible.
MM pets aren’t really any squishier than BM pets, except for Spirit Bond all the survivability talents are in the pet’s talent tree and the Mend Pet glyph.

I think it’s a bug, but while we wait for them to fix it you’ll just have to go old school and get yourself a Finkle’s Skinner(that and the glove enchant used to be required to skin Onyxia).

I saw the same thing on the last boss in AN, and on the Stone boss in HoS (for mining)

Hahaha, I’m imagining this inserted into the council scene from FotR.

“You have my sword.”
“And you have my bow.”
“And my axe!”
“And my turtle!”
“… Turtle?”

Since you were only attacking one of the mobs, it’s possible he thought you’d pulled more than you could handle and was trying to be helpful. Of course, if your health wasn’t getting low, that tends to suggest otherwise, but who knows. Maybe he just wanted to be an asshole.

In any case, if you want to ensure that you get kill credit, tag everything. That means AOEs (which apparently you don’t have (m)any of) and/or switching your attacks between targets.

The quest reward nerf has been added to the list of known issues.

Quasi, did you see my instructions on how to get Wollkie to the Exodar? When the event is happening and all the NPCs, including Auctioneers, disappear, you can also take one of the **evacuation portals **to be instantly teleported to a safe city (Dalaran or Exodar).

Sounds like something else, like the quest reward change, that wasn’t supposed to go live yet. IIRC the Gatherer glove enchant gives you +5 in every gathering profession, including Skinning. For now, as a workaround, you can put that on your current gloves if they’re not already chanted or pick up a spare cheap pair and put it on those. (If you want to be really fancy, you can grind out the lowest-possible level gray cloth gloves and chant those–that way, you can pass the gloves between alts.)

Note to self: make up a bunch of Gatherer scrolls and put on AH.

I’m finally getting the hang of the Frost Mage rotation, I think. I queued up for a random dungeon last night and got into Old Kingdom, and although I got off to a slow start, hovering around #3 in the DPS count, I slaughtered Prince Taldaram with some nicely timed Deep Freezes and Ice Lances. After that fight, I stayed in the #1 spot on the DPS list for the remainder of the dungeon. My first time fighting Volazj as DPS instead of healer, too; it was weird being able to fight off the phantoms for once.

I also managed to solo Rattlebore, a level 74 elite I’d never fought in Dragonblight before because I’d never done the goblin camp quest chains. It was seriously close and I very nearly died, but I pulled out just the right amount of cooldowns and managed to drop the bugger. I feel strong.

So I hadn’t really logged onto my 80’s for a while. So i logged on my druid tank the other day to do the event bosses, then yesterday i queued for my first random heroic in over a month… of course its HoR. We roll through the first 2 bosses without much hassle, but then we die on the last pack trying to escape the lich king because one dps dc’d and another is a mage doing 1500 dps (sigh)… i had also died before queing because i got a little over zealous on pulling the elite elementals. Suddenly, I have a bunch of red gear. So I teleport out to repair and my repair bill is 143 gold =O

I can laugh about it now, but I also remember levling my first toon and thinking that saving up 100 gold to get an epic land mount seemed like an impossible task lol

Heh, I have a Gatherer scroll that’s been just sitting in my bag for months. I made it for my 73 pally who’s a miner, but his mining skill is so low that +5 wouldn’t make a difference in his current zones. Time to pass that along to my pally skinner!

… and apparently we also don’t have as many HP as a well-geared mage! I teleported my paladin up to Vargoth’s Retreat (the secret room in Dalaran you can access after completing the Higher Learning achievement), and there was a player-mage there who had a few hundred more HP than my paladin. On Inspect, I saw all of her gear was at least 264 stuff, with a couple 277 pieces, mostly drops rather than tier gear. Maybe she was also still in her raid group and still had a bunch of buffs on her — I didn’t notice before she logged out. All of my paladin’s gear that has +STA on it is iLvl 245-264, and she has 32,161 HP, unbuffed. This mage had something like 32,500.

Now that’s interesting … on the new Armory, if you haven’t logged in a particular toon in a while, that toon’s portrait appears as sort of a ghosty silhouette: Jabloo.

To test this, I logged in Keliraeda, who was also showing up as a silhouette, and then logged her back out, and reloaded her Armor page, and she reappeared “normally” there (and her pose changed, too).

Well, I can try again some day. But that particular fight… DO NOT WANT! Hate it for much the same reason that Faction Champions in ToC25 still gives me nightmares. It’s like PvP, except (A) enemies aren’t intelligent… well, actually, PvP can be like that too… and (B) I’m outnumbered like a mother. And I’m epically bad at PvP.

That’s the exact thing I meant about survivability. Still, I may rethink MM pet survivability. In my Princess Theradras run last night, we nearly wiped (i.e., I FD’d and everyone else died ) and Theradras reset, but the earth giants at the entrance of the area didn’t. My wolf actually held them both and tanked them as I got up to finish those off. Only one heal needed. So maybe Blizz normalized pet survivability?

Same here, though it took a bit. And I’m still not 100% on it–there are times when I’m sending out FFBs with no FoF up, which is wrong, and I need to get better about watching the CD on my pet’s Freeze.

Oh, bonus, though: I finally got the last miniboss drop I needed, so I’m done queueing for those unless I want to. Score!

It’s actually gotten worse–they bumped up the total amount of Durability on Cloth, Leather, and Mail to match what’s on Plate. So your repair bills really are higher now.

Yeah, HPs have gone through the roof, especially in Heroic ICC gear. In my usual tanking set, I’m at something like 55k or 56k completely unbuffed, and I think I’ve seen unbuffed clothies with more health than I had when I was tanking Naxx at the beginning of Wrath.

ETA:

Has anybody heard anything about a display bug relating to buffs/debuffs that are supposed to completely alter the way you view the world? On my Mage for the past couple days, both running to my corpse as a Ghost and using Invisibility aren’t working properly. With both, my character appears translucent, but the world looks normal. (Yesterday, while dead, it looked normal for a second, then flashed to Ghost World, then after only a few seconds went back to looking normal again, all while I was still dead and running back to my corpse.)

LOL…yeah, my mage sometimes has more hp than the tank in a random dungeon too. He’s got around 33K buffed or so. Unfortunately, those hit points don’t last nearly as long as a tank’s do. Something to do with wearing cloth instead of plate. Pity. If I could wear plate, tanks would be optional.

Well, you’d have to wear Plate, *and *pick up gear with defensive stats instead of DPS ones, *and *you’d still have no way of getting uncrittable or of picking up defensive talents or abilities. But other than that, you’d be set!
