New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Ding to 79, on the home stretch now. Got culling of Stratholme for 1st time immediately after levelling.

Had an initial wipe because I didn’t kbnow the instance and was too far from party killing zombies when the first wave showed up. After that wipe we got through with no major difficulty. Did get one complaint for not keepiong aggro on Meathook cos a guy got killed, which was odd because according to Omen i did have aggro. Not sure what happened there.

Hookie is one of those dudes who attack random folk as well as the tank, he likes doing it on ranged folk. Aggro got nothing to do with it.

Grats! As Nava says a random ranged character will get hooked, this why it’s a good idea as a healer to be close to Meathook and let a ranged dps-er take the hit. Anyway what else are hunters and mages good for??

I am now a Champion of four Alliance factions, one to go and then I’ll never have to kiss another frog. Please Blizzard.

I’m not really able to group up with people at the moment as my son is very restless in the evenings so I’m doing lots of solo stuff. Thought I’d work on my ‘lock’s tailoring so calculated what cloth I’d need to get from 385 to 445 and it is 2259 frostweave cloths. That’s a lot of cloth.

We don’t get the new patch in EU until next week so can someone who has it working let me know what the new chat interface is like? Worth dropping Chatter for?

It’s one of the things you’ll realize sooner or later, most people are pretty clueless about boss/mob skill mechanics in instances these days, they just try to brute force everything.

It takes a fair amount of cloth, but look on the bright side, from 410 onwards you can make Frosweave bags which are at least useful and 415-435 you can skill on the specialty cloths which you’re going to need anyway.

Aspect of the Stun and cookies, respectively.

Plus, in the latter case, portals to Dalaran.

Ok apart from the getting hooked, Aspect of the stun, magical food and portals to Dalaran…

I watched that one after you linked it here. Funny concept but OMG the voice acting was horrible. (Intentionally so, perhaps, but it blew way past the line separating “so annoying it’s funny” from “so annoying it’s even more annoying”.)

Grats, Wanderers!

I did all the Midsummer achievements on my priest last year, but while in UC last night I saw an NPC with a yellow ? over her head - I talked to her and she gave me the Crown of Flame or whatever it’s called. I didn’t even do anything! But I should get the whole midsummer outfit out of the bank. I also spent a little bit of time in the UC courtyard hoping to kill some Allies after our flame. It was too quiet though, only one showed up - a Night Elf I think - and I killed him good. Actually it was funny – he walked in and I loaded him up with DoTs; then he stunned me or something and disappeared. I thought he got away. But then I looked at my combat log and it said I had killed him, so I went outside and found him dead on the front pathway

In other news, I did some torch juggling with my pally to by some of the +Def food from the holiday vendor, and then we had five Burning Dogs for the Acratraz run. Rahuul brought his rusty DK, we had FlightlessBird’s boomkin, Azraq the ret pally, plus me and our holy priest. Even without having read any walkthroughs or strategies, it was a pretty simple run. A couple of deaths but we never came close to wiping.

It is striking once you hit 70 how little a dent a BC dungeon run makes in your XP bar. I think I moved up about three bubbles.

Next week, our final Burning Crusade 5-man instance: Magister’s Terrace.

Azraq backed out, actually. I think you had Lyjorin the warlock as the 5th.

Oh right! Sorry Lyjorin! It didn’t seem right when I typed it because it had seemed like we had more ranged dps than that. :smack:

You sure about that? Pallys can be pretty badass, but I’m certain I’ve never seen one Soulstone anybody.
On Preview: Stupid phone call, not letting me submit in a timely manner…

Well, if you count Divine Intervention or Hand of Protection…

Okay, fine then. Pallys can be pretty badass, but I’m certain I’ve never seen one with a demon minion.

DI and HoP are useful only if you’re alive. You can’t use a SS until you’re actually dead. So no, they don’t count!

I have most of the Flame Keeper and Desecrate stuff done…just have to steal Ironforge and desecrate Dun Morough to finish Old World. Then I move it to Outland. I’m…procrastinating on the juggling. I’m still twitching from trying it last year on my older toon.

Max level =/= entry raid. A T10 heroic set should last into max level non heroic dungeons, I’d expect, while most pieces hopefully would get replaced by heroic 5 mans before one could raid effectively. It will depend a lot on stat distribution, and the initial tuning of the first raids. WotLK was silly in initial progression, with far too many first kills determined by which guild had the most people on over Thanksgiving weekend, I fully expect Cata to be much better in that regard.

An interesting thought is what’s going to happen to heirloom items? Is 25% more xp going to make leveling faster than max ilvl shoulders, chest and ring? I’d expect it would, and I’d expect that the difference maker in who gets world/server firsts will be who’s gone through the effort to get the ring.

From a purely personal point of view, the earlier that max geared people feel the need to replace gear the better; as they have to replace gear I become more competitive again.

Have I introduced you to my latest alt?

I wonder if they’ll change the heirlooms so that they scale to 85.

I got King of the Fire Festival last night. That was the easiest ‘enter the enemy capital cities’ achievement I’ve done yet. I’ve just got all the fires to desecrate and honor now, plus that torch juggling, and then I get to do it all over again next week on my actual achievement hound.

But man, what a gold mine. 6 gold and change for honoring, 13 gold and change for desecrating.

Like I said, I remember reading that they expect top end gear to last until level 83 or so. I’ll have to dig up the exact cite at home if I can remember to.

Heirlooms will not work past 80. They’re thinking about new heirlooms that will work until 85, but it’s not a guarantee.

No, you haven’t. Which is why I can honestly say I haven’t seen it.
