New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

This is the guide I follow:
Go to Stormwind, buy the [Bountiful cookbook] - from the Pilgrim’s Bounty Vendors, open it up and pick up the 5 recipes.

Learn the first recipe called [Spice Bread Stuffing].

* 1 - 100

  Make around 60 x [Spice Bread], then buy 60 x [Automnal Herbs] from Pilgrim vendors and make 60 x [Spice Bread Stuffing]. Don't forget to visit your trainer when you reach 75!

* 100 - 160

  Buy 70 x [Ripe Elwynn Pumpkin] and 70 x [Honey].

  Learn the recipe [Pumpkin Pie] and make it 70 times. Don't forget to visit your trainer at 125!

* 160 - 220

  Go to Ironforge, buy [Tangy Wetland Cranberries] and 70 x [Honey].

  Make 70 x [Cranberry Chutney].

* 220 - 280

  Go to Darnassus, visit your trainer and learn the next rank of Cooking. Buy 70 x [Teldrasil Sweet Potato] and 70 x [Honey].

  Make 70 x [Candied Sweet Potato].

* 280 - 330

  Go back to Stormwind, visit your trainer, learn the next rank of Cooking then go outside and hunt Wild Turkeys. They drop [Wild Turkey] and fortunately it has 100% drop chance. You will need 50 of them. Buy 100 x [Honey] and 50 x [Automnal Herbs].

  Make 50 x [SlowRoasted Turkeys].

I like Oc. It was my first heroic on my undergeared hunter. And the group were looking for a fifth to do some achieves - the speed kill and one more that I don’t recall now. (We managed it with one wipe) Plus, I got really good with the bronzes. And there was the chance of the mount from randoming into it as well. Never got it but it was a nice incentive for me.

I’m glad that they left the elemental boss portals open – people were grinding those suckers like mad for gear and JP. My pally now has 2-3 upgrades, which makes him a happy camper.

The last quest Kutkal did before logging out in UC was the Battle of Darrowshire, which I’d been putting off for over a year. Weird to think that it used to require a raid group to do. I still remember dinging 60 in the Plaguelands after a long afternoon of questing, so it felt like a good way to go out on old Azeroth, by giving closure to little Pamela Redpath. The cup of Tea with Sugar is now sitting in my bank as a memento, right next to the usual accumulation of body parts, weaponry, and gear.

Taomist, that’s great. You should put that as your Christmas card this year assuming you do Christmas/the card thing :smiley:

I tried another few of elemental bosses last night with the same PUG. Got killed in all three attempts, with a bonus party wipe on the third. They weren’t one shots this time, but the healer was apparently lagged and couldn’t do anything when my health bar got down to halfway. The tank kept running into the bosses without clearing the third set of mobs (which, BTW seems to have a 100% correlation between me staying alive and not staying alive based on these PUGs).

Thanks to this thread, I am going to be leveling cooking tonight. Looking forward to that, as I just started leveling my secondary skills and don’t feel like hunting everything or spending all my money on the Auction House.

Are they getting rid of the portals to deal with the horrible lagginess of Dalaran? I am hearthstoned there, but only because I could run one door over and hit the portals. Sometimes wit would take me five minutes to do that. Will they be making it easier to get to Darnassus, Northrend, and Outlands by any chance? I hate those boat rides with looooong approaches when you come off the map screen with the dotted red line getting into Northrend.

It took me four separate attempts until I found an area of Tirisfal that a) had enough turkeys and b) had no competition for them. (The valley with the spiders just below Scarlet Monastery)

Is there an actual patch today? I brought up the launcher before I left for work to check and it only downloaded something tiny, and in the green the whole time.

Yeah, I only got a 25mb file. Patch ‘a’ next week, then?

Uh, never mind? After downloading the patch and starting the game, it showed the Cataclysm cinematic from the TV ad and the launch screen is now the Cata screen, not Wrath.

Remember the big ol’ prep patch a week or two ago? That was for this.

Oooh! Have you gotten into the game proper yet? Is everything all broken?

The Roast Turkey recipe stays orange until at least 325 or more, I don’t remember exactly, but I know I leveled cooking from 1 to 335 since Sunday using the holiday recipes and I only stopped because I ran out of turkeys. I don’t know when the recipe turns green but you can probably get very close to 350.

Quasi: At one of the captial cities, find the holiday NPC who is selling food ingredients (spices, flour, etc). That person will be selling a cookbook that contains five different recipes of different levels.

You need to have at least Cooking level 1 to learn the first recipe. If you never trained, there is a cooking trainer nearby.

Learn the first recipe – I think it’s Spiced Bread, maybe? Then buy enough ingredients to make 60-75 of them and have at it. By the time you’re done, you will have leveled enough to 1) train the next level of cooking and 2) learn the next recipe.

Not every vendor sells all the ingredients you need – the vendor in one city has pumpkin, another has cranberries, another has yams… so you’ll have to do a bit of travelling between the major cities. Also, if you pick up the quests, you can get rewards for doing all this cooking. Just remember to train the next level of cooking when necessary and learn new recipes as you are able to and you can get well past 300 without too much trouble.
Edit: Okay, damn I see Martu has posted a much more detailed walkthrough, but hell if I’m deleting this post now.

I don’t remember exactly at what point the turkeys turn green, but when I stopped Sunday night it was green at 345 – Monday’s turkey daily got me to 351 (still green then, too), so you can get to at least Northrend cooking using this holiday.

This is where I got the achievement last year.

I have decided I’m not going for the title on my alt this year, but I needed to collect turkeys for cooking so I just started at the zep tower and went from one to the next as long as I could see another nearby. I ended up with over 30 and thought I might actually get the achievement after all but my luck ran out.

No, the server screen only showed a couple of servers and listed them as offline.

FUCKING FINALLY. Ulduar 25 last night, killed Yogg with zero Keepers, and completed my Glory of the Ulduar Raider 25-man meta! Woohoo, shiny new protodrake.

Let it never be said that I don’t leave things until the absolute last second. :smiley: Now if the shield would just drop for me tonight…

What I want is a fucking Legendary *tanking *item, already. We’ve had one healing-specific Legendary, and a half-dozen DPS ones. Hell, there was even a Bow–useful to exactly one class except as a stat stick–how about a Shield? (Yeah, yeah, sorry Druids and DKs.) You could even have two versions of it: tanking or healing.

Excellent! That’s where my bank alt is parked now, too.

Did you check your logs to see if you got any extra JPs when you opened the bag? They don’t show up as physical items anymore, but it’s possible they’re still there.

Yes. They’re not adding a new neutral city for Cata in an attempt to spread everybody around among the old-world capitals–even if people tend to concentrate in one or two cities for each faction, that will at least keep Horde and Alliance apart.

If they left the portals in Dalaran, everyone would just leave their hearths there. Unfortunately, there were two ways to deal with the problem. The easy, lazy, and bad way was to simply remove the portals, destroying the functionality that attracted everyone to the city in the first place. IMO, a much better idea would have been to create, say, chained one-way portals between cities, such that, e.g., SW has a port to IF (or no port, but uses the tram), IF has a port to Darn, Darn ports to Exo, and Exo ports to SW.

Yes, all servers are offline for extended maintenance. I forget the exact timeline, but somebody should be able to tell you when they’re supposed to be live again. (My WAG is that it gets pushed back at least twice.)

(In the Oculus). I remember noticing that I got them when I opened the bonus bag, so yes, they’re still there.

ETA: the intro screen yesterday said they’d be off line until 11 AM PDT, so hopefully I will come home to a broken world this afternoon :slight_smile:

Oh, and there were a bunch of people singing on Garrosh last night…

o/ It's the end of the world as we know it! It's the end of the world as we know it! It's the end of the world as we know it! And I feel fine! o/

Somebody on my server was holding a “say goodbye to the Barrens” party at Crossroads; I didn’t bother showing up though.

My first shot at the achiev last night, my Orc Hunter did similar, starting at the zep tower and running west and north.

Got to 39/40… and ran into an area that had just been hunted clean by someone else, who (it turns out) had also gotten 38/40 before running into my “turkey dead zone”. (Bad sign when your turkey timer is ticking down below 15 seconds and all you see on the ground is dead, plucked, cooked turkeys.)

Second try went better, though.

Only thing left for me is Turkey Lurkey. And I am totally despairing of being able to find a Night Elf rogue and a Gnome rogue that won’t kill me outright, or at least get into combat to deny me the tag while summoning help. Cuz Dalaran won’t be the sanctuary gathering spot any more, so I’ll have to go to where the rogues are.

I may have to do the “trial subscription on another computer” trick. :mad:

Massive grats. That achievement is a HUGE pain in the bollocks. I’m glad to see the dedication paying off.

Followed by 3-4 hours of unplayably broken servers and non-stop forum nerdrage, complete with demands for compensation (free hours, epics, etc.), repeated calls for blue posts, and counter-angst (“It’s only a game, if you hate it so much why don’t you /ragequit”)

I’m totally stoked. :dubious:

This. I realized (too late) last night that I should have maximized my Turkey Shooter choices instead of picking the dress, boots and hat (especially since you don’t NEED the boots for anything) first. Then I could have laid in wait in Dal and got rogues of both factions without having to sneak around outside Stormwind or Ironforge.

But NOOOOOOO! I just HAD to do Peril and Ikiss last night so I had to get the garb first…
