The current version of Gatherer isn’t completely compatible with 4.0.3a, what with all the new/changed zones. They say an update should be ready by the end of the month.
w00t! The Fishing Diplomat!
Flew my main to Forest Song, Ashenvale, rode through Azshara, in through the backdoor of Orgrimmar through that crowd of 85 elites, got dismounted but bubbled just in time, and the guards broke off pursuit when I had a mere 600 or so HP left. Healed myself up real quick, then remounted and made a beeline for the nearest pond, aggroing another guard in the process who broke off pursuit right after I rode into the water and disappeared beneath the surface. Popped out of the water, equipped my fishing pole, fished up a Bristlewhisker Catfish, and then used my Ring of the Kirin Tor to teleport back to Dalaran ![]()
Also, I’m extremely peeved that those Muddy Crawfish’s nameplates showed up for my Alliance paladin, but simply would not show up for my orc warlock when she was doing the cooking daily to catch them
Anyway, all my main needs now is The Lurker Above for her Salty title.
Which really easy if you have some form of slow fall, water walking and someone to help you form a raid group so you can enter SSC.
Oh, and you might want strip before you start fishing so don’t have to pay rep costs when you end up as fish food. ![]()
I have to say the new starter zones are really very well done. Got a bit too attached to my new Forsaken priest so decided to take him on a few more levels past 5 and the way the Worgen are introduced is quite clever in my opinion.
I did find Bingles, turns out he’s just gone up in station.
But I have another question: if you find a half-buried statue that looks suspiciously like Ms Libby’s cameo in Planet of the Apes and have to fight back an impulse to start looking for Charlton Heston, are you supposed to move into assisted living?
Incidentally, for anyone else leveling up a noob, note that at least in Razor Hill, and I expect in all the other level 5/6 towns, there is a trainer who can train you in any trade skill to the apprentice level. I didn’t notice her until I’d already flown my druid up to Org (and back) to get skinning/leatherworking (as the Razor Hill guards don’t point you to the noob trainer, which is unfortunate).
Need to make a Forsaken hunter soon and see how that zone looks. Durotar has been changed around in interesting ways; I like the new noob quests.
Having fun with the new starter zone, the Troll area is really well done. You still have to walk quite a bit for a few quests but that’s my only complaint so far. Debating on questing through the Barrens or going my usual route over to Silverpine. From what I’ve seen the Crossroads hasn’t changed that much, so I may head over to Silverpine and check out the new stuff.
Rode out to Hillsbrad to check out the Peacebloom vs Ghouls mini game, yeah I’m never going to get that singing flower pet I’m just all kinds of bad at that game. Made it as far as the pumpkin quest and got destroyed over and over again.
I’m liking the looks of the new quest-reward gear so much, what with all the matching pieces, that I think I’m just going to save all the BoA gear I’ve purchased — the XP-enhancing pieces, anyway — for getting through Outland and Northrend.
So… do people just not give a shit any more about the holiday clothing, beyond the requirement to wear it for certain achievements? Even on my RP servers, I see nobody wearing the stuff. C’mon people, you don’t need your full raid gear for doing the holiday cooking dailies! Put on that pilgrim suit and have a little fun!
I think people just sometimes don’t have the time to trade out, especially if they’re running multiple characters through some quests. I know it’s always fun to dress my bank alt up, and lord knows even my 20-something Paladin keeps gear that looks ‘neato’ for later dressing-up time…I will try to get free slots in my bags for my mage to dress up like a little cook.
All of my toons have designated “Combat”, “Town” and “Fishing” sets.
My main has those, plus “Cooking”, “PvP”, “Dress” (another “town” set, but with just a dress, and usually more “elegant” than the regular “Town” set), “Naked”, and then a slot I keep open to throw together a set for whatever holiday is current. There is of course some overlap between sets. I carry all of these around with me at all times (not hard to do with a full set of 22-slot bags). And they’re all on action bar buttons so that I can switch quickly and on-the-fly.
ETA: Oh, and my main isn’t even on an RP server.
You know…I’ve never even used the gear-slot-trader-outer thingy that WoW so nicely provides now. Never occurred to me to use it for ‘fun’ gear; thanks! I will have to try that out.
Unfortunately, my main’s bank is literally packed with neat clothing items I’ve collected over the course of playing. Before Cata drops I’m afraid I’m going to have to bite the bullet and sell off a crapton of stuff to clear out some space, unless they dramatically increase our bank sizes.
Hmm, anybody know what’s up with this 165MB thing that’s downloading today (Friday)?
Fraps allows the user to benchmark during gameplay, and since I have added both fraps and gameboost, the following represents one benchmark for 60 seconds while I played WoW.
I can do a benchmark anytime during the game. This is only a one-time sample.
Since installing both, I have not had an issue with latency and game play has been smooth.
I do realize, however, that there’s the tendency (and rightly so) to assume that because I am demented, I may not know what the fuck I’m talking about.
I can deal with that in real time or Doper time, as long as people know that I really AM trying to help myself.
This is just an example.
Yeah, it takes me a little longer and many times I fall flat on my face, but I do try.
Thanks
Looks like it’s working well for you!
I am by no means any kind of gaming genius; I just had never heard of Fraps being anything but a resource hog/video maker. I wasn’t trying to insinuate you were wrong about anything; I thought it was neat
So I think mages are broken. My level 75 Arcane Mage is pulling like 3300 dps on a single target boss. And half of her gear is level 70 stuff.
And peaceblooms vs. ghouls is pretty sweet XP if you aren’t 80 yet
I really, really love my new Singing Sunflower pet. ![]()
There’s a zombie on your lawn ![]()
Best. Pet. Ever. (sorry toothy)
Per comments on WoWHead, the woman who voiced the sunflower in the song also does the voicing for the pet.
I took my nelf priest through Ashenvale and Stonetalon on her way to Southern Barrens last night and … let me just get this out of the way right now: female goblins have the best death animation since murlocs
