New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

My hunter was another who was playing Pokemon recently. I picked up a mastiff from the ruins of Gilneas, a white-gray fox from there and a red fox from Western Plaguelands - and oh man, I love the Plaguelands makeover - and Winna’s Kitten. (Poor Winna went a little mad, you see…)

Man, I knew it was crappy to be in Westfall now, but they really went downhill…

Also, I went into Org from the Rear end (no, really, it says Orgrimmar Rear) and got my achievement. So if you’re having trouble, enter from Azshara.

One thing that hasn’t been handled well in this patch is something that never actually occurred to me – players waking up in zones and all their quests are gone. This has happened to my father who logged out in STV as a level 40 paladin with a full quest log and returned to the Cape of Stranglethorn without any quests at all. And very confused, unlike most of us he gets all his information about wow from in game no trips to external sources. Fortunately after a quick chat we got him on his way to Eastern Plaguelands though:

I am now in the Eastern Plaguelands I had to swim the last bit as I could not get over the mountains.
[/QUOTE]

it involved a swim so no idea how he got there in the end.

So my mage was in Dalaran checking her mail, when that wandering NPC The Amazing Zanzo materialized behind the mailbox and walked right under my mouse, whereupon my mouse changed into the “trainer” cursor. I’d seen him before but had never realized he was a trainer, so I right-clicked on him and discovered he was indeed a mage trainer. And so now my mage knows Polymorph: Pig

Had some fun with a screenshot I took of my RP undead warrior on Cenarion Circle:

Rolled up a baby tauren paladin on the same server. I love love love having gear that matches! Also logged in my RP orc warlock, who I had logged out in Ratchet. She still has all her Ratchet quests, so it looks like most of the Ratchet quests have remained in place, though the specifics in the text have changed for some of them. Like the quest to kill that Southsea Freebooter captain - the captain’s name (and the name of his ship) has changed, so apparently the old captain is officially dead and a new one has moved in. I hearthed her back to Org, and was quite annoyed to discover that, despite being a level 17 orc, she needs to explore Durotar all over again. I understand needing to re-explore Northern Barrens, since it’s technically a brand new zone, but Durotar? She also did the Org cooking daily, which involved catching crawfish from the various ponds in Org. They really need to up the spawn rate on those things - you don’t fish them, they’re lootable Beasts that you don’t kill, you just run up and right-click them, sort of like the baby wolvar for that one Kalu’ak daily quest. It took freakin’ forever, because they seemed to spawn maybe one every two minutes or so, and they apparently have no nameplates so you just have to be lucky enough to spot them when they appear. Erg.

I fear it’s going to take me a while to get comfortable finding my way around the new Orgrimmar.

Yes, of course you’d need a fire to cook, wouldn’t you?:smack:

Guess I’ll go ahead and shred my Mensa application.

Thanks, don’t know what I would do without y’all.

ETA: To Rik: Hilarious!

If it every happens that you need to cook something but aren’t near an oven or a cooking table or a fire, you CAN make a fire yourself. It’s a skill that you learn when you learn cooking.

Just open your spellbook, then go to the “Professions” tab. In the Cooking place, there should also be a button to make a campfire. You don’t need to buy wood or anything, either.

After looking at that screenshot, I’m happy my racial tabard is a tree.

I just came from Alterac BG and Alliance lost big time.

I made the mention in chat that “this lag sucks”, and got the answer, “No, your machine sucks”.

So which is it - the game or my machine, and if it’s my machine, what if I took EVERYTHING off except WoW? Would that improve its speed/lag/ftp - whatever?

I mean, I could see I wasn’t helping! I couldn’t dismount to fight, I couldn’t get anywhere fast enough, yada yada.

I can use D’s computer for e-mails and other stuff and just clear this one for just gaming if y’all think that will help?

Thanks

Q

PS: Thanks jayjay. for the cooking advice. I HAVE a campfire button, but just always thought it was for making other players “feel good” if I built one.

The next time you are having problems, mouse over the computer icon in your task bar. If the fps reading is below 60, your PC isn’t quick enough, and you could try lowering the graphics detail. If the latency is showing a number much higher than it normally does, it’s either a problem with your internet connection, or the WoW server.

Man, I thought the lvl 85 guards at Org were bad, there are lvl 90 sentinels in Teldrassil!

So i never played plants vs. zombies…
but peacebloom vs. ghouls = EPICZ

and the singing sunflower pet is pretty sweet too

If Greatmother Tekla could do all of THAT, why the hell did she need an escort?!

I am so sad.

Loch Modan was always one of my favorite places ingame, just beautiful and soothing, and I am so sad that it’s a wrecked mess now :frowning:

Heh…wandering between Razor Hill and Durotar is a hunter named Tednug and his Cat, Scratchfever.

Alka Seltzer: Thanks for the information. My fps WAS way below 60 (20-35 at some points). Friend told me about fraps, which runs in the upper left hand corner and keeps a running count of fps and also gamebooster which shuts down unneccesary stuff before you begin to play. Result was fps of 60 consistently. Hope it keeps up.

Also thought about more RAM. Do I need it if I have 465 Gb and 312 Gb free space?

Thanks

Q

Ok…that’s probably the first time I’ve ever heard anyone mention fraps as improving play. It’s used to capture video, and is usually a resource hog, not to mention that if you forget you have it running and it’s taking all this ‘film’ while you’re playing, after a few hours your hard drive tends to fill up and the game crashes and you spend time going ‘WTF’ before you realized you left fraps running on and on.

Or at least, that’s what has happened to folks I know. :stuck_out_tongue:

If it improves stuff for you, that is awesome! Just…keep an eye on it, maybe.

Sorry. I MEANT gamebooster improved my fps, not fraps, and I’m not using fraps to capture screen shots or video…

On another topic: When I sign on to play, I get a yellow message for me to please update GATHERER, but when I try to do that and open up my curse client, I see a white triangle with a red exclamation point. When I mouse over it, it says Gatherer has been modified and is no longer compatible with curse database.

In other words, I CANNOT update Gatherer, along with flightime, auctioneer either. They ALL have that triangle.

So is this still the problem we all had when the new patch was launched or something new?

My auctioneer and flight time still work okay, btw.

Q

Even easier: if the computer’s picture itself shows the “screen” green, lag is decent; if it’s yellow, the connection is bad; and if it’s red, you’ll be moving in stop-motion animatronics.
There seems to be a bunch of “pointer” quests they missed when they changed the areas. A few weeks ago, I made a baby moodruid and he got that quest to “go see the trainer” for which the next step used to be “learn Teleport: Moonglade and hie thee there”; now I have to look for Bingles Blastenheimer, the minimap shows the ? where he used to be, there’s nothing there, and his cousin further north isn’t talking to me. Le sigh.
