New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Thanks, I learned something new.

I was a bit startled last night while playing my nelf hunter on Argent Dawn, my Alliance RP server, when I saw the announcement for AD’s Realm First 25-man Heroic Lich King kill. I thought, “What, now?” I guess AD apparently doesn’t have much in the way of hardcore raiding guilds.

I’m not sure what’s going to become of my guild, of which I’m an officer, on AD. Our Guild Leader has been unemployed and unable to play for a couple months, and in his absence there appears to have been a mass exodus out of the guild. Judging by the number of “So-and-so has left the guild” notes in the guild log, anyway. We’re down to about 56 members, a total that includes 5 toons of mine and about the same number of the GL’s alts. At least a couple officers have left as well. Another officer has been offline even longer than the GL - he had to drop temporarily for financial reasons, and he also lives in Christchurch, NZ, where that earthquake hit shortly after he dropped, so he still hasn’t been back. And I haven’t been playing my toons there much lately, either. At least there doesn’t appear to have been any noticeable guild bank raiding on people’s way out.
I’m enjoying the heck out of questing through Southern Barrens on my nelf priest. There’s an old dwarf in one of the smaller quest hubs named Ol’ Durty Pete who has a whole catalog of amusing stories to tell

So I caved and bought the new Moonkin Hatchling pet. It’s $10 and until the end of December Blizzard will donate $5 of each purchase to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, so I figured that would cover my guilt over paying for a virtual pet. Hee hee!

Check out Thousand Needles. There’s an initial quest that is Tauren, but that takes you to the big ol’ steamship that’s what’s left of the Mirage Raceway, and the goblins there give you bilgewater rep.

WAIT

WAIT

Blizzard just messed up my internal clock. It’s Monday! There’s not supposed be a patch! But there is! But patches are on Tuesday! But there’s a patch on Monday!

I feel like aruvqan’s mom.

Cairne still doesn’t have a HLK-25 kill. Not sure anybody is even working on it. The one guild that was (Alliance) transferred to another realm before 4.0 (they have since got the kill, undoubtedly thanks to the DPS boosts of the new abilities, as well as the better pool of quality raiders compared to Cairne).

I believe that only one guild of each faction even has the 10-man HLK on Cairne.

ETA: Don’t think anybody got Anub25 HM either, to be honest… have to check.

ETA2: Nevermind, Havoc did (the guild that transferred off) - still none Horde-side, and the one remaining Alliance guild didn’t go back for it either.

If I won the lottery, one of the first things I’d do is pay for server transfers for the entire guild to a more interesting server. Cairne, I love ya, but there ain’t crap for activity.

Just re-roll on a more populated server for Cata. There is going to be a brazillian new characters anyway, so switch over to Illidan, Blackrock, or the best server of all: Mal’Ganis – the ridiculously overpopulated horde-only server. Those servers are better than ever with the new cross-Battlegroup groupings. Just do it. Everyone will be happier in the long run.

Umm… would that be waxed, or just shaved? And please tell me they’ll be female, and not Tauren or Worgen. Cuz that would be painful for them and awkward for everyone else. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hehe, I’m on AD too, and heard that message…I rather doubt that’s the first time he’s been killed by those folks in those guilds.

What I realized was that it was the GUILDS getting the credit, not the players, and so I thought the new guild mechanics were in, whatever they are.
I’ve been told they’re not, but still…

I’ve been a guild of me-and-my-alts for years now, after the original founders <we all used to play DAoC, way back when> got real lives. I played WoW on and off and am the only active player left at all. Funny that I can’t bring myself to boot people who literally haven’t been on in over 4 years, but still…

You nub! :stuck_out_tongue:

There was also a patch on Friday, and one on Saturday, too. Unfortunately, the Patch Notes were not updated to tell us what the hell we were downloading. I’m guessing bugfixes.

I’ll bet Palooka was referencing that George W. Bush joke, in which he received a report that six Brazilian soldiers were killed the day before. Mr. Bush appeared extremely upset by this news. Far more upset than seemed warranted. He finally pulled himself together and asked, “How many is a brazillion?”

Anyway…

I’m loving the new quest reward gearing system! My nelf priest on Lightbringer just finished all of the quests in Southern Barrens (I won’t spoil it, but the Bael Modan series is … EPIC). As I mentioned, I’ve decided I’m going to save my XP-increasing BoAs for leveling through Outland and NR, partly because I want to see all the new quest reward gear, and partly because I really don’t want to look at the same chest and shoulder pieces for 80 levels. I’m keeping the BoA weapons, though. So as my priest quested through S.B. I selected and equipped each piece of appropriate quest reward gear, except for rings (which were inferior to what she already had, and which aren’t visible anyway) and weapons. The only slots not filled from quests were her head and trinkets (she’s only level 39 now, so no trinkets yet anyway). The result:

I guess all you can see is the robe, shoulders, and cloak, but you get the idea: NO CLOWN SUIT! Everything is some combination of green, gold, white, and light brown, and all fits/matches perfectly. I even changed Syanalle’s hair color to match. The final, climactic quest in the zone rewarded a blue necklace. Well, I say “final, climactic”, just because that’s how it worked out. I just happened to save that quest sequence for last, without knowing what to expect. (Pro Tip: when questing S. Barrens, Alliance-side, save the “report to Twinbraids” quest until you’ve finished everything else).

Though in something of an anticlimax, when it was all done I was given a breadcrumb quest that sent me to Theramore, where it appears little, if anything, has changed. All the same quests, including those irritating Deserter Agitators. One small change: an NPC who used to be in the inn and gave you that quest to collect turtle tongues and crab legs for his new dish has been moved into the Keep, and instead of sending you all the way to Swamp of Sorrows for the crab legs he now sends you to collect them from crabs right outside Theramore (yay!) So I’m hauling Syanalle off to Eastern Plaguelands instead.

Yep, I’m wearing the cloth-hanger shoulderpads and the shirt (which is hidden by the tabard anyway) but I’d noticed that Sassy actually looks good. Such an improvement over things like those purple-and-green leather trousers from WC… shudder Those look like someone stole them from Mick Jagger’s closet back during the early '80s. Seeing a troll in them counts as a psychedelic experience, even if the two things are different periods.

I’m not bothering with completion because I don’t expect Sassy to become one of my high-mileage characters and because, knowing me, I will be going and getting every quest I can find on my main/achievement hog (the hunter, the other two mains are a priest and the DK, who so far has turned out to work best for me as a tank, I love death grip); running into lots of people who aren’t using the shoulders and shirt on purpose to go a bit slower, though.

That’s GOTTA make you feel good, kushiel, to know you’ve helped a little one in that way. Doper-Gamers rock my world!

Thanks!

Q

The one who wouldn’t take “no” for an answer?

Well, he popped up again LAST night and invited me to join his guild on a couple of dungeons, and did I have a great time? You bet I did!

Yeah, I died a lot and had to be rezzed by a healer, but she was just the sweetest thannnng! Kept telling me “remember to loot, Hon!”

They want me to leave my guild and come in with theirs, though, y’all.

Remember, I formed “Slightly Demented” to help new players and I was kinda proud of that, so what am I s’posed to do?

Some of those guys are fellow veterans and kept calling me “brother” and stuff, and I have to tell you - that felt mighty good.

It was a great time last night, y’all!

Quasi, do what you gotta do. If you’d like to think about it, think about it. But keep that one guy on your friends list and stay in touch.

Leveled my zombie mage a little last night. I started her before 4.0.3a dropped so I went back to Deathknell and did all the new quests (and got those exploration points…for some strange reason she has Elwynn Forest completely explored but had NOTHING in Tirisfal). I just LOVE Darnell…he’s so earnest and EXCITED about being Forsaken!

I really like the little touches…the fish in Stillwater Pond in Tirisfal are undead! Little fishie skeletons swimming around. That’s too cute!

Quasi, it’s great that you found such a helpful and understanding group to go with. Even if you don’t join their guild, it’ll be nice to have some friends on the server you know are nice.

I’ve really been holding back on re-rolling a new toon until next week, but dammit! the new starter zones all sound so cool

I got a bit further on the plants v. zombies questline but got stuck on the pumpkin wave… need to go back up this thread and read the strategy again.

Also, did WG last night (offense) – we started the battle with only 10 people so I thought we were toast. Eventually we had 15. But I think there must have been only a handful of Allies as well, because there was hardly any resistance. The only difficulty was getting enough kills to be able to build the seige engines, because there weren’t enough enemies to kill. Not many HPs for that victory :-(. On the flip side, I was in an EotS group and then a WSG group which both dominated – first time that’s happened in a while!

ETA: Netherweave and Frostweave bags are selling like hotcakes! I’ve made over 1000g on bags I think (the Frostweaves are going for 60g+ per bag).

Run run run run! I got 7 days to get 40 Champion’s Seals so I can get the Teldrassil Sproutling! 12 down, a lot more to go.

They’re not going away, are they? I’ve only got 40 and I need 150 for the Dragonhawk mount.

Quasi, like **Ferret Herder **says, do whatever makes you happy–but if I might make a suggestion that will let you have the best of both worlds–just leave one of your alts in charge of Slightly Demented, let your members know what you’re doing, and give the change a try. If you like it (and it sounds like it might give you some more opportunities in the game), then stay. If you don’t, then you can just let them know it’s not working out and move back to SD.
