New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Great folks reside here, for sure.

Tonight I saw someone asking for a port to Dal and they were offering 50 gold! Seems excessive when I think that if I need a lock pick, I tip at most 5 g’s.

Thanks

PS: To aldemar. I have fallen into Booty Bay many times myself. Those ramps are very tricky. try to avoid those ? mark guys. They’re nasty and don’t die easily, if at all.

Trouble sleeping (it’s 2 am here), so I think we’ll go hunting on K3.

Apologies to adhemar for the misspell. (No “L”). D’s asleep and I’m typing in the dark with only the monitor on.

Q

Taomist, where are you in that image you included? Is that the famous PvZ (had to look it up - Plants vs Zombies, right?)? Is that a new area?

Thanks

Q

Correction: “gamebox” in a previous post I wrote = Gamebooster. Sorry.

Q

Yep, that’s the new plants vs zombie quest. It’s not an area, but a quest that makes you ‘disappear’ ingame and you just view the field, just like in the screenshot.

The spot, and the quest, is in…aww crud, exhausted and falling over. It’s a level 25’ish area, near Tarren Mill. If someone else hasn’t posted directions by tomorrow night, I will post then.

Awesome, I’m glad you made it out. Remember to grab flight paths in each town that you come to, so that you can fly around later and have more options for places to go.

It’s at the Brazie Farm in Hillsbrad. It’s south of the crater where Dalaran used to be, and north of where Southshore used to be. (I love the “this is why Horde can’t have nice things” comment someone made about the latter - the Forsaken are really making me mad these days.) There’s a big enclosed black fort-like place near the road - skirt that if you’re Alliance because there are Horde NPCs hanging out there.

Rend is usually the first strike after I rush, and sometimes I see the blood spill and sometimes I don’t, but the monster turns red and I haven’t seen the word “miss” on my screen.

So does that mean rend worked, or is the enemy just red because it’s in battle mode? I may be imagining it, but it seems like when I’m not sure rend worked the monster’s health bar doesn’t drop as quickly.

Also, I just pre-ordered Cataclysm. Gamestop isn’t going to give a price break (at last check) and I just wanted to save myself standing in line there.

Also, can I run the “Inside The Frozen Citadel” and its quest pack as a solo dungeon. It requires a 78 level, so I wasn’t sure and there aren’t any comments about it on Thotbot.

Thanks

Q

Oh yeah, I hadn’t expected you were upset by it – I was just remarking in general about the idea that proper healing etiquette makes a huge deal about sniping. Especially in content where your healers are overflowing with GCDs and mana.

There’s a WSG vendor too at that level, usually selling items in complementary slots to the AB one. Northern Barrens by Mor’Shan Ramparts, if you’re Horde – Southern Ashenvale if you’re Alliance (Silverwing Refuge? don’t remember).

You have to group for Inside the Frozen Citadel - it leads you into a series of three dungeons that are the toughest 5-person dungeons in the game currently. These are Forge of Souls (FoS), Pit of Saron (PoS), and Halls of Reflection (HoR).

Yikes. Glad I asked. Plus it only pays like 3 g’s.

Thanks, FH!

I was thinking of buying some surround-sound 'phones and found these cheaper than the Logitech g35’s, but the reviews keep mentioning a special “amplifier”, so I kinda don’t wanna take a chance.

Right now my phones (also Logitech, but not surround - the same that jayjay uses) plug directly into the front of my IBuyPower AMD Athlon, 4gb, 64x2 dual core processor 6000+ 3.10 Ghz 64 bit OS (but I play with 32 bit - can’t use the 64) with Vista.

How can I find out prior to buying these 'phones if I will need the additional equipment?

These Zalmans don’t have a mic, but I don’t really need one.

(I can’t use my Logitech multi-speaker system, because of my elderly SIL)

here’s a link if anyone can help me out.

Q

Never mind. I took a closer look at the reviews and apparently these phones have three plugs and I need an adapter to switch from 3 to 1 input.

Thanks

I remember the first time I saw an enemy with question marks instead of a level. Then I noticed the skull instead of the level number on his portrait. I was a bad, bad person - I swore and turned around and ran, not knowing what the hell was going on except I THINK INSTA-DEATH leaving my hunter pet to fend for himself.

Has anyone ever seen headphones that work ONLY with a USB plug and port?

This goes back to my surround sound Zalman headphones that I want to buy (see upthread).

My problem is that all the ebay sellers selling this model mention mini-plugs as the Port Interface, but my one seller (with the best price) says USB powers the surround sound along with an “inline sound card”.

I just want to make sure I can use these and that the USB will actually give me the surround sound.

Thanks!

Quasi

While I can’t saying about whether or not the ebay listing is surround, USB headphones are very common. They’re for people won’t don’t have an adequate (if any) sound card. Such sets are basically like a USB soundcard with headphones hardwired in. I’ve seen both surround and stereo. For what it’s worth though, all surround headphones are terrible.

Ever defragged WoW? What utility did you use, if you did? Checked frags and was told that 30 files needed defragging. Does Windows disc cleanup and system defrag do this?

I googled it and someone recommended Perfectdisc.

thanks

Q

The built-in Windows utility ought to do the job.

Well, color me impressed.

I rolled up an Undead Warrior earlier this week, and have leveled him to 18 already. I’d tried a couple of Undead characters in the past, but abandoned them when I got tired of the endless running around in the starting zone and Silverpine Forest. The new quests are so much more better organized – you logically move from place to place, and all the additional flight points (especially in Silverpine ) make getting around so much easier. And there’s a much greater sense of an actual story occurring, with the rise of the Worgen and your conversations with the Banshee Queen.

I also love the new feature where you can complete quests and pick up the next one in the chain without having to return to the quest giver. I was so sick of quests along the lines of “now that you’ve killed the 10 mobs, I need you goto back to the exact same area, fight your way through the mobs a second time, and kill their leader.”

It’s just such a deeper experience than it used to be.

So somewhere in this massive thread someone posted about how doing instances on the weekend sucks because all the casual players come out to play. I never thought about it too much, because I’m in this weird little spot where I’m more than a casual player but in no way a hardcore one. Most of this game still makes me feel like an idiot. But hell, today was full of fail on the RDF front.

Look, when I’m #1 on the DPS chart, that doesn’t mean I’m getting better - it means that I’m with a lot of crappy players. I kept on getting aggro, which is something I’m not really accustomed to. Usually I’m lucky to get in a couple of hits before the mob is downed by bored raiders running instances. So I’m running around trying to get to the tank so he can get aggro back while getting my ass kicked and generally just flailing around.

I also ran into a tank that had macros set up to announce to /party every time he used Taunt or other abilities (dunno what they are, never played a tanking class). It was weird.

I am also 45 points away from 5000 GS! Whee!

Not having a lot of luck with trying to tame rare elites. Decided it was pretty futile when I read on WoWHead that someone spent 8hrs a day for 4 days camping out before he got a spawn. But not much else to do until the Cataclysm hits. Working on my Oracle rep so I can buy that egg that hatches into cool stuff.

When Cat goes live, how are 80’s supposed to know where to go next to level or does one just get teleported there?

Thanks
