FLAILS IN JOY

I got my shipping notice for the Collector’s Edition from Future Shop! Hopefully this means Tuesday arrival.

kushiel, that’s great! Grats!

Q

Someone upthread had asked me if I ever browsed a particular item in AH to see what the going price was, and the answer is yes and no.

Yes, when it’s a one of a kind item and no when it’s a stack of something, such as leather. In that case I usually go with Auctioneer and try to undercut a little of that price.

While auctioneer was down, I browsed pretty much all the time, and in the case of leather, the prices were all over the place ranging from 7 all the way up to 100 g for a stack of 20.

Right now I am selling it for 11 g simple and 14 buyout for a stack of 20, and even though I see people still way underpricing me, I have several return “customers” who always buyout every stack of leather and every stack of iceweb spider silk.

That 11 and 14 is that undercut I do that’s CLOSE to what auctioneer tells me, but I wonder why the same people always buy from me, when they could buy it much cheaper. Maybe they need a LOT of leather and my constant pricing and the fact that I usually have at least 6 stacks to auction makes it easier for them?

In the case of one of a kind items, I undercut a lot more. If auctioneer tells me to start at 35 and buyout at 45. I’ll take it down 5g in either case. If they don’t sell the first time, they either get guild-banked, bank-banked or vendored - most of the time, the latter.

Another alternative is for me to same-price the simple auction and the buyout. I have seen this done while browsing and have always thought that the person who does this is being decent and fair.

I’d appreciate a critique and advice if I need to do something different.

Thanks

Just wait until you get to UNMITIGATED BADASSERY

Azshara is definitely my favorite “new” zone thus far. Oh, and the apprentice illusion hat rocks.

What level is Azshara now?
I will be levelling a Druid starting next week, but have several alts between 20-43 that I’d be happy to dust off to explore. Yes, I have two 80s to explore with, too, but I like the old-fashioned, organic way. Makes it so much fun

Seems to be a 10-20 zone, or thereabouts. I’m there with my tauren paladin; went there straight after Mulgore.

Oh wow, neat!

Um…probably a Horde only place, levelling-wise, huh.

Well, my gobbo shammy can get that far for sure, at least

Alliance characters make some forays into the zone from a base at Talendris Point in Ashenvale, but I’m not sure how far that goes. I was zipping my nelf priest through Ashenvale on her way to Southern Barrens, and did a handful of quests there just to see the sights, but didn’t stay to follow out the whole quest chain (she way over-leveled them).

I’m partial to the Forsaken (my main toon is undead) but I don’t like the new style architecture. I much preferred the old Tarren Mill to the new one. Does the old town layout and architecture still exist in the Old Hillsbrad CoT dungeon?

I ended up spending almost all my playing time since Friday playing on my new troll druid - up to level 20. Even though I’m Resto specced, I love being able to melee or spell dps fairly effectively (it helps that thanks to heirloom gear, most quests are green to me). I think I’ve only died once, and that was self-inflicted – I tried to jump from the zep tower in Org into one of the pools below. It worked on my level 80 toon my my druid died :-(. Druid healing is pretty simple so far, but I’ll probably be resting this toon come Tuesday to level my mains and my Goblin. Assuming Amazon delivers my game on time.

Yeah, I’m glad that Spoiler at Spoiler in Hillsbrad turned out to be a renegade, and it was nice to see Spoiler all standing up permanently now, but I prefered the “doing what it takes to survive in a world that hates them” Forsaken to the current flavor.

Been levelling a mage over the last couple week which I’ve been quite enjoying. The tweaked levelling zones are much better now, although I hope the dam gets repaired and Loch Modan refills at some point.

Got my mage up to level 36 now. He is currently a fire mage, but what is the best spec for DPS these days? And does anyone have any up-to-date information on what rotations I should be using please?

From what I understand, all three Mage specs are competitive these days; even as Frost I was coming in #1 or #2 on the DPS charts. Frost trades damage for utility, so Fire should be a little better at DPS. I’m given to understand that Arcane is something like “expert” mode: capable of putting out great DPS, but requires a lot of fine-tuning and a more complex rotation for optimal DPS.

Here’s a general breakdown of each spec plus optimal rotations. Fire’s rotation (spoilered for length):

Obviously since you’re still only 36, you can’t use the full priority list. Just incorporate as much as you can and work with what you’ve got. If all else fails, spam Fireball.

Pushed the farming DK up to 78 by the time I went to bed yesterday. Started with lots of questing and a couple of lucky groups where I got to chain a few instances with the same folks–having a tank with you makes for instaqueues, as always. Then a new friend I’d met through the RDF, a tank, came online, and we ran a few more instances together. We ended up with a string of bad luck with DPS, though–people doing maybe 500 or 600 DPS, which is just ridiculous when you’re in your late 70s. (For comparison: I was doing over 700 on Sleutel at level 70. As Prot. In TBC, when Prot’s DPS was much worse than it is now.)

I thought they’d truly idiot-proofed the specs, but apparently not–one winner was a Fury Warrior with Titan’s Grip *and *Single-Minded Fury, dual-wielding Daggers. What. The. Fuck. So before I nerdraged myself to death, I stepped away from instances and into Battlegrounds. Where I got to engage in *another *type of nerdrage, against people who can’t follow simple instructions like “everyone go BLUE” or “slow the demos.” :smack:

I assume you’re looking at the NPCs in the faction capital cities? You want the vendors for individual BGs. They stand outside the entrance portals to the actual BGs out in the world. You should be able to search Wowhead for items that can be bought with Honor Points and then restrict them by required level. When you find an item you want, you can open its page, which will show you how much it costs and who sells it. Clicking on the NPC will take you to their page, which shows where they’re located.

I don’t know if it’s still there, but there used to be a ramp up to the dock more or less in the middle of the crescent that is Booty Bay.

If someone’s having trouble finding a Mage to port them, or if they want fast results, they’ll offer large amounts.

The way you can tell if Rend is up is if it appears as a debuff on your enemy. You can practice this by using a training dummy in a capital city. Hit Rend, and watch the portrait of the enemy you have targeted. You should see the Rend icon show up under that portrait, with a little sweep (like a cooldown) showing how much time is left before it expires. If you mouseover the icon, it will also give that information.

They’ve added sooooooo many–and just in time for them to be moot for our higher level characters! Hah. At least our lowbie alts will appreciate them.

It’s actually not unusual for tanks who raid to use addons or macros that announce taunts and defensive cooldown usage to raid, party, or both. Personally, I just announce my CDs on Vent, though I’ve had vague plans to work up something for an in-raid announce.

I hate to say it, but I’m pretty sure we already observed in this thread that the cloth turn-ins were going away. Also, WoWWiki is going to be very inaccurate for a lot of things. All of those articles have to be updated manually, and it’s just people like you and me who do it. Wowhead will be what you want to check for anything that’s guaranteed to reflect what’s actually live in the game.

Bwaaaaaaahahahaha. That’s an excellent coincidence!

Hrm, I wonder if it would fit as a title…

Congrats! I can’t wait to start taming those on my Hunter. If I ever get off my ass and level her…

I’d really stop undercutting those other items so much. If they’re just greens that people are going to DE, that’s one thing, but other items could probably be bringing you a much larget income. Especially if they only have a small deposit cost, it’s probably worth your while to at least try listing them at a higher price first.

Arcane is theoretically the highest DPS at 80/85, but it requires a lot of micromanaging/theorycrafting to get those numbers in practice, because your damage is based on how much mana you have. For a more casual player, Fire will probably be better. Frost is now pretty competitive for PvE DPS, but I’m not sure that it’s as good as Fire. (It is, however, fun to play.) As for rotation and whatnot, you’re in luck–WoW Insider just had a “Mage 101” post up for the new designs. I think this should be the correct link, but I can’t check it from here.

ETA: Arrrrrrgh, sniped by **BT **while I went back to compose the first part of my post.

Muahahaha.

Also, Fury Warrior with daggers I don’t even

The “problem” is, I think, that there is no penalty for sucking while leveling. Most of the mobs are so easy that regardless of how bad your spec and gear is they will still die.
The really sad thing is that the people who suck may not even realize that they suck, since you need an addon to know what your dps actually is, and even if they have one, there is no ingame way of knowing how much damage you should be doing.

I apologize that I haven’t done more than skim the thread (it is over a hundred pages long), but I have a question and no point in starting a new thread when this one is here. I get the impression that most 'dopers in this thread are old hands at WoW and have at least one level 80 character. My question is, on Tuesday night/Wednesday whenever do you plan to roll up a new Worgen (and what class), or do you plan to start leveling up to 80 on your existing toons and then maybe rolling up a Worgen later on?

Just curious what folks plans are when the new system launches.

My plans before I decided to leave off the game for a while were to start a goblin environmental engineer immediately, then at some point down the line start leveling my 80s when I needed a break from engineering the elements.

Actually, this expansion raises the level cap to 85. I have two characters at the current maximum level of 80, and will likely level at least one of them to 85 as a priority. Also plan to make a Worgen to check out that starting area. May go ahead and roll it this week, maybe push it to level 10 or so, and then let it generate rested exp bonus while I work on the other toons…

My vague plan is to roll a Goblin Warrior on my home server (Cairne) and a Worgen on some unrelated server so that I have something to do during battlegroup/server crashes. However, I expect I’ll be spending 80% or so of my WoW time on one of my level 80s, probably my Death Knight though maybe my shadow priest, going through the new zones.

I’ll be leveling my druid, which was the first character I ever rolled.
At first my plan was to level my hunter, but it turns out I really like my druid.
Yep, I’ll spend at least the first raid tier this expansion looking at a big bear ass.
