There was one guy with his PVP flag on who was questing near me in Hyjal for a while yesterday - not sure if he was doing it on purpose or just newly out of a battleground or whatever. It WAS a bit annoying having to avoid using AOEs while he was around.
Gah, I should have started in Hyjal instead of Vash.
In fact I should have started with my priest instead of my pally. Maybe I’ll rotate, as was my original plan. Too many decisions!
I’m on Wildhammer, which I understand to lean slightly in favor of Horde. I actually haven’t played that toon since Wednesday evening, so it’s possible that things might have cooled down since then. I stayed up late Monday night/Tuesday morning and hit the new zones right off, but literally spent less than 5 minutes in each of them because of all the PvP going on.
I’m not going to complain excessively, because I knew what I was getting into rolling onto a PvP server, but it was a bit much. Luckily he’s a rogue, so it was possible to stealth my way out of the place. Maybe I’ll give it another try tonight. I’m getting a bit tired of Azshara on my goblin about now.
Almost forgot, i got some immense satisfaction last night… On wednesday i saw the achivement anouncement for the realm first 85 druid (and i remembered the name cause my main is a druid). Well on thursday night i’m minding my own business, turning in a quest, when some kitty druid that was stealthed tries to gank me. It is none other than the realm frist 85 druid… lets just say he was unsuccessful in his attempts
possibly even more satisfying was the fact that there was like three other horde (i am alliance) standing around just watching me kill this tool.
and to be honest there has been almost no world pvp that i have encountered (just a couple isolated incidents). I think the reason is, if you start something, there is most certainly going to be retaliation from everyone of the opposite faction in the area, and it will be almost impossible for you to do anything yourself. THough… i do understand that some people like world pvp just for the sake of world pvp. But I’m a quest junkie, so i’d rather just avoid it at this point.
Lots of people make money skinning, and my first thought was ‘Great, finally! I can make some money for a change!’
I forgot I was also a leatherworker, was a Dragonscale one of all things, and I also can’t seem to remember that leatherworking is all but useless. I’d be much better off having two gathering professions and selling both. I can’t remember the last time I actually used anything I made that wasn’t better than something I could get cheap off the auction house.
That’s what I heard from the people in my guild who took off work/school and started leveling right at the second of release, too–but it had already cooled off by Tuesday night. I think people figured out pretty quickly that if you just leave each other alone, shit gets done a lot faster.
Bwaaaaaahahaha.
You know you can drop your profession and pick up a new one, right? If you really don’t give a shit about LW, you can just drop it. The mid-level herbs and ores should probably be going for a pretty penny right now: too high for fresh alts to be farming them yet, too low for people re-leveling max-level profs, and necessary for people powerleveling new profs.
Time to add the Stonecore and Deadmines to the completed heroics list.
I think it’s going to be a while before anyone is chain running heroics, specially with pugs, me and my guildies spent 2 hours in the Stonecore and another 2 in the Deadmines. The Deadmines wasn’t that hard and the last fight was awesome, but the first and third bosses in the Stonecore were brutal. Both of them are happy to one shot you if you make a mistake and I wouldn’t want to do the first one without a frost mage.
Okay, so I’m going to drop Blacksmithing.
And skinning with leatherworking makes sense - so those will be my two professions (after I unlearn bs, that is).
That’s right, right?
Y’all kinda lost me in your back and forth upthread, so I’m just making sure before I unlearn/relearn, because Usum doesn’t have but about 27 silver so far!
Thanks
Q
The rightness of a profession combination requires a question, such as “What combination maximizes my DPS?” or “What combination will make the most money if I chain tank dungeons?” Earlier, jayjay said you should change to mining based on the question, “What’s the best profession to help level up blacksmithing?” The back and forth involved the error jayjay made in answering that question.
Do as you wish, otherwise. You can take any combination to 525/525 and never want for money.
Yeah. The “error”. Thank you so much for correcting my “error”, O Great God of Azeroth!
WOW, just ran Halls of Origination… that is one epic dungeon!! The boss fights are amazing, and the place is tough.
The thought of doing heroic makes me wet the bed:eek:
Thanks for the invite! I have to say it’s a lot more fun to play when you have friends that you can chat with while you fight.
We’re at 10 with a grand total of one talent point which I spent on Beast bugg… I mean Beast MASTery.
I love my little dragon who sure has made it easier for me to level faster as he can fight one enemy while I take another and then come back to help finish him off.
I dropped blacksmithing and picked up leatherworking. I had never unlearned a profession before (or if I did, I don’t remember), so I ran all over creation trying to find my blacksmithing trainer to unlearn when all I would have had to do was pull it up on my screen under “professions”.:smack:
Thanks

I was under the impression that on a non-PVP server you had to be flagged for PvP to affect someone else with an area effect (ie- you wouldn’t have damaged him or flagged yourself by using AE around that guy). Please correct me if this was changed (last time I actually tried it was back in TBC). I seem to recall them making it like this to prevent griefers flagging themselves and running into your fight to get you flagged so they could gank you, which was a pretty big complaint back when the game first launched.
Could you point out to me this “massive blanket ad hom” (which doesn’t simply mean “personal attack”, but I’ll let that slide)? Because if I indeed made one I will humbly submit a mea culpa.
I would probably recognize the absurdity of the statement and not dignify it with a response. Additionally, one of the maxims I’ve seen repeatedly on the SDMB is that “opinions are neither right nor wrong, they’re simply opinions”, and I make an attempt to phrase my opinions as, well, opinions, as opposed to presenting them as facts, as your example above does.
Besides, if all of us non-raiders stopped playing the game, you raiders would have to go farm your own mats and wouldn’t have as much time for raiding ![]()
That sounds like fun! And yeah, it’s much more fun to have people to chat with ![]()
It’s not intuitive or easy to spot, at all, the little thing you have to click to unlearn something. I remember that being an oft-asked question way back when. I couldn’t have answered someone today how to do that except that I happened to notice it the other day.
Might have to unlearn leathercrafting.
And yes, I was venting; leatherworking has irritated the crap out of me, but I must be doing it wrong, cause surely SOMEone is buying all those mats! It ain’t me, though; I just make the cloth sellers rich <sigh>
I got some really decent armor in AH last night, and I know why: All those 80’s were shedding theirs as they made the climb to 85. Much of it very reasonably priced under 100g’s.
Thanks, Tao, for making me feel better about unlearning blacksmithing!
I have Wolkie parked high on an out of the way cliff on Mt. Hyjandi. Should have put him in the inn, though.
Also I clicked on the new flight master for a new flight path, but now I have to, what, find another flight path to connect me to get back to Emerald________? Because when I re-clicked the flight master, I got a message telling me I haven’t yet been anywhere to make this connection possible (or words to that effect).
Twilight Savagers (?). I guess the easiest way to fight them is to join a warden who already IS fighting one? One of those ogre-things on the other end killed me last night.
ALL the borean leather (8 stacks of it) was sent back to me during the night, even after a big mark down. Guess I will hold on to it and run it again another time.
As I mentioned in another post, I’m going to conentrate mostly on money now.
Thanks

I’m enjoying my mage more now I’ve switched him to frost spec. Just had my best dungeon run in a long time. Picked up a group of players who actually communicated for a change. Although we struggled a lot, with an under-powered healer, boss abilities that caught us out and messing up the crowd control, it was a lot of fun. Wiped 3 times on the “King of the Ogres” dungeon, but that was fine. It’s the “attitude wipes” I don’t like.
PvP is also a lot more fun with my mage than my Ret Paladin.
Dinged 85 early this morning . Woot! Now to do some dungeon running till I’m heroic ready (and re-learn healing at 85 in the process).
Quasi–I am not certain about this, because I don’t play my hunters very often, but I think if your pet kills a mob all by himself, you don’t get experience or loot from that mob. Think you have to do some damage yourself to get credit for the kill.
On a different note, I finished the Worgen starting area last night. Meh. On the up side, it’s got a good storyline. On the downside, you either have to do all of the quests, or at least certain quests, before you can advance. This almost got my worgen 'lock deleted, because I simply cannot do the “Two by Sea” quest by myself. The catapults refuse to launch me onto the boats. Doesn’t matter what I do, where I aim, or anything. I click the button, the animation happens, but i go nowhere and the catapult disappears. The next quests in the chain will not be offered until that quest is complete. Only way I could get around that roadblock was to get someone to group with me and kill the captains for me.
Also found the starting area gets a little tedious after level 10. OK, scourge are evil. Got it. Let me go back to the real world already. Seemed like multiple quests would suggest that they were the final one…until you turned it in and activated the next few. I was level 13 before I finally finished everything so I could go to Darnassus. The whole thing felt very linear to me, and I really don’t like linear play. I like options. Maybe I don’t feel like questing…maybe I want to leave the starting area at level two and go join a friend making a gnome or whatever. I should be able to do that, and I can as other races…but not as a Worgen. Haven’t done a goblin yet, but I expect a similar experience.
Yeah, the goblin starting area is also very linear. (As is Hyjal, but of course you can leave the quest line and go somewhere else if you like).
