New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I am annoyed I can’t do this quest and it is the start of a long chain of quests. Has anyone else done this (Stranglethorn) and can give any hints or suggestions other than suck it up?

Swabbing Duty - have you read the comments on Wowhead? I’ve never done it (it’s new with Cata) but there are a lot of commenters complaining about it. There are some hints there, though, that might be helpful.

Cool, thanks, i usually look everything up there but I go so fruestrated with this one I posted here before looking there, thanks for the reminder.

Speaking of addons, anybody having trouble with Auctioneer? When I go to post something and click the “Refresh” button to update the prices, it actually locks up the game for 1-2 minutes while it does its thing. It never did that before it was updated for 4.x.

Look at what it’s actually doing when it does that–when it happens to me, it’s refreshing the data for everything in my bags as a series of separate scans. If you see that it’s on, say, Scan 3 of 25, that’s your cue that it’s being weird. Try relogging next time and see if that fixes your problem.

How do you see it’s doing that?

ETA: Er, I meant “see that it’s refreshing the data for everything in my bags as a series of separate scans”?

If you recall, it will display that it’s scanning on top of the AH window. That information will say something along the lines of Scan X of Y. When Y is a number greater than 1, you know that’s what it’s doing. You can abort the process by going back to the main browsing/searching window and pressing the Stop button a lot of times in a row until it halts every search it queued.

Okay, I’m not being clear. What I’m asking is, since that progress bar is only showing numbers, what exactly is telling you that it’s scanning your bags, as opposed to scanning the existing auctions (which is my initial assumption about what’s happening)? Did you read this somewhere that I, too, can read? Because the display I see simply tells me that it’s scanning x of y of something.

Not being a wiseass, I just suspect my question wasn’t specific enough.

“Something” is how many different things it’s scanning–not how many items *of *that thing it’s scanning. A *refresh *should only ever be doing *one *scan, because it’s *one *item. I figured out it was everything in my bags by guesstimating and noticing that the scans I was canceling were all for things I had in my bags (i.e., that were showing up on the sidebar in the Appraiser tab).

Okay, just double-checked now that I got home:

What you want to look at is the bar that says “X scans remaining,” which appears above the AH window when you press “Refresh.” If “X” is anything but “1,” something went wrong. If you ended up somehow refreshing everything in your bags, you want to go to the Browse tab and spam-click on the Stop button (square) until the number next to it reads 0.

Ah, okay, gotcha. Unfortunately, I can’t click over to the “Browse” tab because it’s literally locking everything up while it does this. Everything stops moving, I can’t rotate my camera view, and sometimes I even get my Mac’s “Spinning Pizza of Death” showing up in-game in place of the cursor (I don’t know what the Windows equivalent is, but the SPOD generally indicates that an application “isn’t responding”).

I’ve mentioned this over on Auctioneer’s Curse page and pointed out it never did this before the addon was updated for Cata. Maybe it’s something the author can fix.

I actually had the issue happen first *before *I upgraded to the new version that was released for Cata, but after 4.0.1a dropped, IIRC. (To the extent that I’d assumed that upgrading to the new version fixed it.) I don’t know if you’re seeing the same issue as me, but your computer just has fewer resources available so it’s locking up harder, or if what you’re seeing is a different issue entirely.

I started a new goblin toon yesterday. I was motoring around in the hot rod in Kezan and noticed…what the heck does the license plate say? “<pocketwatch> = $

I chuckled.

Gaaaah I think that is the most annoying voice clip in the game. Even more than ‘You no take candle!’.

One of the things I like in Cataclysm is that a lot of the mobs you find are actually doing something other than standing around waiting for you to come kill them. That is, they appear to be going about their lives and doing what people do. I got a good chuckle while grinding archaeology in Feralas, and came across a Gordunni Shaman (ogre) … dancing. Then I found another one who looked like he was crafting something.

ETA: My favorite goblin NPC voice emote: “Moooove it!”

Oh, also, re: the comments earlier about the game world being “compressed”. I’m reading The Last Guardian and just finished a scene where Medivh and Khadgar take all night to fly on gryphons from Karazhan to Stormwind. There’s also a scene in Day of the Dragon where the flight from (I think) Hillsbrad Foothills to the vicinity of Grim Batol took 8-9 hours.

That’s a LONG smoke/bathroom break…

Holy cow! A hat that actually works with my draenei mage’s horns!

(Because I prefer my toons to “show” their helms, I actually temporarily changed my draenei warrior’s horns for a time during Wrath because they looks completely asinine with those big-winged helms that were common in that expansion.)

I did notice, though … I had my mage try on the T11 mage gear (in the Dressing Room), and I noticed the T11 “helm” makes her horns completely vanish. Interesting…

Oh my goodness I think I just saw the coolest name ever.

A Tauren druid named Owlbundy.

I think everyone’s having issues with WoW right now. Different servers, different players, different cities, states, all seeing incredible lag, incredibly random, too.

I blame snow.
