New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

This is why I’m so pissed off that they moved On a Pale Horse to Frost and turned the DK pet Talent to a baked-in part of Unholy. The speed boost is essential on a gathering toon, but there’s no way I’ll be able to reach it *and *have a pet on my farmer until 85 or so. And the pet is one of the things that made him a great gatherer–I could sic it on a mob–or mobs–within aggro range while I stood a safe distance away, run up and gather the node, and then run back out of range and Shadowmeld before the pet was dead. Now my only option is the non-permanent pet, which you can’t control at all, so it doesn’t work nearly as well. (Plus the CD is a lot longer.)

I think that’s only a problem in mixed-level groups. IIRC, I can queue for any individual regular dungeon I want, at least when I’m by myself.

Hey, cloth schmoth! It’s all the same thing!

Had a great Grim Batol run last night (further proof that even the worst Heroics are easy when everybody in the group is competent) that had a particularly epic trash pull shortly before the last boss. I wasn’t bothering to CC anything because we had the heals and the DPS to just burn through the packs of trash… but this group had something that summoned all those Twisted Visage adds. The terrible Rogue (who apparently hadn’t slept in like 20 hours and eventually just told us to kick him… after several previous kick attempts had failed unbeknownst to him because I felt bad for him :p) went down, and the healer, and one other DPS… leaving just me and the PUG Shadow Priest. And I popped CDs, and he healed the shit out of me as best he could, and we killed every single damn piece of trash. Wipe averted! Though really, really fucking narrowly. If Prot Warriors weren’t so strong against trash right now (great AOE DPS, AOE stun, single-target stun, interrupts and silences, Spell Reflect, two debuffs for enemy melee damage), I don’t think we’d have made it.

The “freeze everything into a block of ice” talent in the Frost tree lasts long enough to gather a node; I believe there’s a glyph that drops the runic cost to zero. Though this is all off of memory, since I switched my spec to blood with 4.0.1.

What the hell is with that bug where if everyone leaves the party before you your option to ‘Teleport out of dungeon’ goes away? Or is that actually deliberate? Pissed me right off last night. Some party members left after the last boss, but healer queued up again and I selected a role, then someone denied the role check and everyone left the party at the same time and I was left with no option to leave. Because I don’t have other things to do than run all the way back through Blackrock Cavern.

I am, however, much happier with the corpse run for BRC.

Other interesting thing about BRC: Karsh Steelbender deals you damage even if you are nowhere near him, as I discovered when after a wipe everyone went back at him before I could get back. I was running around the dungeon lost while getting hit with damage periodically. :frowning:

Regular ToT and BRC go away the moment you ding 84. u hax!

I’m going to queue for my first Heroic tonight, after having read through the EJ Destro Warlock thread and getting my gear priorities straight. I think I’m hit-capped for heroics (0.00% miss on level 87, OMGWTF miss on skull/88), and I’m putting out some decent DPS.

I’m still super nervous, though; I’ve only done a few regular dungeons (though those weren’t bad at all) because of how long the blasted queues are for DPS. I need to do the heroics, though, if I want to get Merrymaker, since I need the stupid hat.

The hat drops on normal, too.

Truth. Got mine yesterday on the last boss in stonecore.

Consistently or as a rare chance?

Consistently. At least in Stonecore, as Tom Scud mentioned. I recall seeing it in at least one other normal dungeon, but I can’t recall specifically which – Grim Batol I think? Not sure if it drops in all Cata dungeons or just specific ones, but it is a 100% drop during the event.

Which is excellent for PvP node-gathering problems, and I’ve used it that way. However, my concern is with *mobs *that are higher level than me, especially ones that are significantly higher level–a controlled pet can body-pull them. A freeze that misses… is significantly less useful.

Probably more like, “You woman who doesn’t try to queue for these instances and just remembers a big string of regular-difficulty instances in the ‘queue for a specific instance’ option list but has a memory like a steel sieve.”

Stonecore and Grim Batol are the ones I’ve seen it in. It also pops in level 80 dungeons, my level 80 warrior did a heroic Nexus this morning and got the red hat from Magey Mz Triplets.
My main doesn’t see those early dungeons any more, but if she’s in a group in which some people have them, the group can be sent there by the randomizer. I don’t know whether it’s a bug or a feature, but it’s nice.

And I got mine last night; thanks! Now I just have to get 50 HKs as a Christmas gnome with no Cata PvP gear :D.

I got mine pretty easily defending Tol Barad (since it’s rather difficult to lose or even die as a defender), but since the last hotfix I don’t think people are even bothering with defense anymore so you may not rack up any kills at all (even as an attacker). I’d say stick with the large BGs, as it’ll be easier to stick with a large crowd and rack up a fair amount of HKs before dying and losing the illusion (AV, IoC).

Hit Exalted with Therazane yesterday, which was my 35th! Not too shabby. Got VC as my random, and I’m starting to think that Deadmines might actually be my favorite Heroic. The only frustrating part is trying to stay ahead of casters pumping out massive damage on the Harvester boss dude, since I spend so much of the fight out of melee range.

I think they should put rope swings in every city. In. Every. City.

The last boss in regular Stonecore definitely drops the hat every time.

I’ve been running regular randoms with my pally for a while now (except Grim Batol, which I haven’t bothered to go discover yet) and been managing to keep even marginal tanks and dps alive, so I’m finally gonna take the plunge and queue for a heroic – probably not tonight (date night with the wife) but for sure tomorrow. Wish me luck! I’m really coveting some healer plate drops in H-SFK and H-Deadmines, too, so hopefully I can handle it.

My other main (priest) is on the verge of dinging 84; I think I’m almost done with the entire Harrison Jones questline. I’m not going to bother with the rest of the Uldum quests, since I just did them on my pally, and will head out to Twighlight Highlands as soon as I can since that will be new to me (and provide better XP and hopefully, more cloth drops).

Good luck with Heroics! If you’re looking to ease yourself in, you might want to try queueing for a specific instance (downside: no Valor badges). H-VP and H-HoO have seemed to me to have the most consistently easy bosses (some of the later HoO ones are harder, but the nice thing about HoO is that you get to choose which bosses to kill or skip out of the final five–you get completion credit after just two).

Well, my warrior is a miner/skinner, and I’m finding skinning to be fare more profitable than mining so far. While I’m getting about 100g/stack of Obsidium Ore, I’m getting 36g/stack for Savage Leather Scraps, and around 250g/stack for Savage Leather. And I lucked into skinning a Pristine Hide, which sold for more than 700g! This toon has already made in excess of 3000g, and isn’t even finished with Vashj’ir yet. Granted, I can farm skins much faster than ore.

My tailor/herbalist mage isn’t having so much good fortune, due to scarcity and slow spawn rate of herbs, and in any case she’s been sending a lot of the herbs she finds to my alchemist/enchanter paladin. And the paladin, with two production professions, isn’t making much money at all, except from fishing (selling both the fish and the Volatile Waters she finds). Since my warrior is making so much from gathering, she’s just going ahead and sending all the gear she finds to my paladin to be DE’d so that my paladin can have some freakin’ mats…

wave I haven’t been playing a whole lot recently for various reasons, one of which being the fact that the wireless at my parents’ house has this tendency to get me into Oceanic-level quality latency ranges (5K+ ms!). I can quest, but forget 5mans, even as dps. But when I did, I was hanging out outside Uldum waiting for a friend to show up so that we could quest together. Then what do I see but the sand going this funky shade of red…

Suffice it to say, I hauled ass north and got myself a helping of Barbecued Troll a la’ Deathwing. <3

Wooooooo!

Regular random, BoE epic trousers in Agi/Sta mail drop. I was the only mail wearer in the group and they were very much “my spec” (hunter here), so I needed and won them, but I didn’t wear them straightaway because I was in the middle of giving explanations and I didn’t want to derail my train of thought (I was the only person who’d previously seen Halls of Origination, it dropped from the trash before Ra). Once I did put them on, the druid who’d been saying “wear them” “dude, are you going to wear them or what?” calmed down and we finished in peace and harmony. I got them gemmed (courtesy of my JC alt) and chanted (courtesy of a guildmate) in time for…

my guild’s second attempt at a heroic, we got Blackrock and got it down  I got the Chaos Orb, so now I’m having to decide whether to make the gun or the helmet first… oh the angst! (I think helmet, higher ilevel so I suspect it’ll last longer than the gun).

Gun will likely be a bigger dps increase, but the helmet should last you quite a while. Queue again and win another orb!
