New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I think I gotta find some kind of addon to pull my combat logs just to view them more since the in-game windows just doesn’t do it. It just doesn’t seem right that a trash pull can bring a tank down to that low hp level and leave him there, but then the same pull + and accidental extra pull seems to do the same thing. Maybe I’m just crazy (possibly), or maybe they hit CDs and stuff, but like you said it is crazy how long you can keep a group alive with everyone low and you having 5% or less mana. It just doesn’t seem right. shrug just curious to see if anyone else noticed it

I think the thing is now to reforge to haste as mastery seems to suck at the moment. I think it’s hard to find any certainties with specs because things are changing often. I’ve just been reforging to haste and spirit where I can
I’m hanging on to my gear that still has +mastery thought, because I heard several people talking that Blizz is not happy with the way mastery is working for all classes. A lot of our gear has mastery so if they buff it, we might have to switch over to it.

Any old meat or fish will do, Quasi, including the stuff you get from innkeepers and food vendors, and meat from mobs you kill and fish from fishing. I think the higher the level of the food, the longer the pet will be happy.

That said, there is a meat vendor in Ironforge, running around the area with the warrior/hunter trainers (SE quarter).

You could always do your own fishing and get your fishing skill up. That’s what I did. Also there are some vendors who sell meat. Try an innkeeper or two. I think, but not sure, the innkeeper by the AH in Stormwind sells meat.

Aha! But Usumbij is Horde! So don’t go trying to buy meat in Stormwind, Quasi!

You can get from killing beasts (like the swine outside of Orgrimmar) or buy it from most inkeepers, or fish it up yourself.

Also, no AH in Gilneas (working w/ Existale at the present) and you can’t leave there until you finish all quests, right? I guess you get your gear through drops?

Thanks for the food advice!

:smack:

Sorry, Quasi! Yes, you need to find Horde butchers/meat vendors, or, like Skammer said, use meat that drops off of mobs or fish you catch yourself.

And yes, on the drops in Gilneas. You really don’t want to go anywhere until you’re done with the storyline, so just use stuff that drops. There’s plenty of stuff to wear and wield in the phased world, at least until you end up dropped in the real world at the end.

Actually, it’s higher-level food will make your pet happy faster. You can see this by switching over to the Combat Log tab in your chat window before you feed your pet. When you feed your pet the highest-level food he can eat, you’ll see that he gets 35 “points” of happiness from each “bite” while he’s eating it. Feed him something a couple levels lower, and you’ll see he only gets 17 “points” per bite. Try to feed him something way too low-level, and you’ll get a message that says, “Your pet doesn’t want that food.” (“What’s this? Store-brand dry cat food? I demand Fancy Cat!”)

Good information here:

So ideally, Quasi, you should be feeding your pet the highest level of food you can. A good rule of thumb is to just feed him the same food you’re eating yourself. If your pet eats meat, then buy meat for yourself and you both eat the same thing. (Don’t feed your pet your “buff” food, though - he won’t get any extra benefit from it.) You can see the food’s “level” by looking at the tooltip - it will say “Requires level XX”. So buy the best meat you can get at your level, and your pet will like it too. Also, some kinds of pets aren’t as picky as others:

Bears, boars, and dogs will eat anything.

Well, I tried to get on last night after adding the addons…and I am back to square one…fatal/critical error #132. I do have the new drivers on now, I’ve been trying the wow repair program over and over. I did get through once, but only when the Cairne was in a rolling restart and got sent to the choose a realm page. I’ve tried to disable my AVG 9.0, but can’t find any option in the program on how to disable it, even tried shutting it down through Task Manager…it just keeps popping up.

Argh.

Thanks guys

I have begun working with all 9 of my toons. I go from one to the next and level them each one level. Because I now have a variety, (druid, warriors, hunters, rogue) I am learning about each one and their abilities whereas when I was working solely with Wolkie I was limited to doing just what he could do.

When I get these 9 levelled up, I’m going to add a mage and a paladin to the mix.

BTW, my Worgen druid Clawdie is stuck in Gilneas and can’t do the one quest she has (the one where she’s supposed to speak to the guy on the upper floor of the jail), so I opened a ticket.

It’s a shame that at level 4 she has only two ways to attack: auto-attack and mana rage. Plus she can’t even move to another quest because she only has that one.

Also, I had forgotten how tedious and aggravating those lower level quests out of Goldshire can be.

Thanks

Q

I’ve been having trouble lately when I leave the game by hitting the windows key or when I log out and hit the windows key.

When I go back to the game, that blue line will fill all the way up , but the picture will just hang up and I can’t get into the game.

Does that ever happen with you?

What’s happening with that quest? Is there no question mark over his head? Is he just not giving you a dialogue box?

ETA: Oh, and she’ll get more ways to attack soon. Don’t worry about that.

Can’t get to the guy, jayjay. Just like before, with Existale who could not get into the cathedral to complete a quest.

I had to open a ticket and the game guys just moved him there.

I’m not sure I understand. You can’t get up the stairs? You can get up the stairs but he’s not on the roof? You shouldn’t have needed to break the phasing by hearthing yet, so that’s not it. How exactly can you not get to him?

Her way is blocked on the street with all kinds of old wood, debris, etc… She can’t even get to the building. This happened about a week and a half ago, and not only with me… there are also no other players, no enemies. The whole of Glineas is deserted.

Ooo! That name, combined with the female worgen “idle” animation made me think of another great female worgen name:

Clawdia Schniffer

:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Too bad you can’t have a last name…

When I reported the problem the first time, Blizz said they were “aware of the problem and are working to correct it”. There’s also several posts in the Warcraft community section from others about this. It took them a few days to correct it.

That’s a cute name, Rik!

One of my female warrior toons is named “Tailspin” after a prostitute called “Tailspin Betty”. Yeah, too bad I couldn’t use the whole name;),

Huh. I haven’t had that bug happen to me in the phased Gilneas yet. I have no idea, other than what you already did (opening a ticket).

Reforging really depends on what you need but I think the one thing that is generally agreed is that the Mastery bonus isn’t that good for raiding (it overwrites and isn’t that big) but can be useful in heroics.

This write up is pretty good from the Bossy Pally Holy Paladin Reforging

Which suggests:

[QUOTE=Ophelie]
Consider boosting your Spirit via reforging if:

  • You’re still getting used to the paladin healing style.
  • You’re not quite geared for the content you’re trying to run.
  • Your heroics teammates have no regard for your mana bar.
  • You don’t regularly have access to external mana regen via a Shaman, Replenishment or other. (Unlikely, but can happen in 5 mans as well as in 10 man teams)

Consider boosting your Haste via reforging if:

  • You have no or very little trouble managing your mana bar.
  • You play with people who often need a quick save.
  • You like a fast playstyle.
  • You’re often assigned raid healing.
  • You use Holy Radiance on cooldown.
  • Your targets tend to die while you’re midheal.
  • You prefer Divine Light over Flash of Light as your big heal.

Consider boosting your Crit via reforging if:

  • You often find yourself out of mana due to heavy lifting (using Divine Light in a non-urgent matter to get a low health target back to full).
  • Your overheal is close to zero.
  • You’re interested in exploring Crit and it’s relationship with Mastery.

Consider boosting your Mastery via reforging if:

  • You mostly only run heroics.
  • You prefer to use Divine Light over Flash of Light as your big heal.
  • You’re able to effectively use Light of Dawn in heroics.
  • You want to explore the relationship between Mastery and Crit.

No ding 85 last night due to work getting in the way dammit but should hit the milestone tonight, a few of the quests in TH are awesome

Escorting the bride on her wedding day
Helping the great Russell Brower write a song - I picked a mix of bawdy and romantic myself
The Nightmare in the Maw though when I was ported to Thrall I couldn’t do anything to help??

Thanks Martu, that’s helpful. Ultimately my goal is to be 10-man raiding again with the guild (BDL) but that’s probably at least a few weeks away, while everyone gears up, so for now I’m doing heroics. I went in the other night and reforged everything with +mastery on it, for +spirit if I could, otherwise for +haste. That still left me with a decent amount of mastery, but should help my my mana and speed up my Holy Light. Haven’t tried out the changes yet, though; I plan on running a few heroics this weekend.

In other news I healed my first regular Cata 5-man on my main (84 priest) last night, with Shin Kell bear tanking. On one hand, it’s pretty astonishing how much mana priest spells cost these days; but on the other hand, I found that improved PW:Shield and improved Renew were about all I needed to keep him close to full health for most fights. Plus it was only Stonecore, which (IMO) is the easiest Cata dungeon.

So I got my Cata Loremaster done yesterday by finishing off Deepholm, which I’d skipped; the whole “oh there’s a Giant faction in Cataclysm” thing caught me by surprise, though I was starting to wonder where I’d get my shoulder enchants.
