New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Just checked my email here at work…good thing…he missed my home email address by one letter…

Nah, that’s my toon (Eilyssana) on the big one in front, riding her Argent Charger. Anduin’s in the middle.

Ah…I see. You’re the one driving the oat guzzler.

I’ve lucked out in that all of the Heroics I’ve done so far, I’ve done with a healer who knows me, and who knew that I didn’t know the fights from a hole in the ground. My DPS has been decent enough thus far, though, to prevent anyone from bitching.

Though I did once pull trash during the first boss in H-BRC. Whoops. I apologized, and we didn’t wipe, but way to noob it out.

Honestly, I think it’ll be better once I actually get to run a heroic for the second time (I’ve done four so far, and it’s been a different one each time). Each time, I’ve been so busy trying to figure out the mechanics, it’s been a mad scramble.

But yeah, because it’s not been as fun, I’ve not been playing the end-game content as much. I’ve spent some of the time going back and doing content I missed before, or things that I can solo now that I couldn’t before. For instance, going back to Magister’s Terrace to get the Hawkstrider and the Orb Of I Wanna Be A Blood Elf.

Netherwing Drakes are next. Here’s to grinding!

I wish I had gone for those before the Sha’tari skyguard mounts. Those things are awkward to fly and mess up my camera angle.

Personally, I would recommend MSE for your day-to-day scans, backed up with full scans by Malwarebytes when you’re feeling particularly paranoid (or, since you have a history of infection, perhaps anywhere from once a week to once a month).

Hoboy, good luck! It’s a pain. Fortunately not quite so bad now that it’s easy (relatively speaking) to farm the eggs. You will come to know that mine very, very well.

Also, they look like big flying vaginas. Just sayin’.

I’m firmly in the camp that hard heroics are fun heroics… but does anyone else find it wierd how unforgiving the the first & third bosses in Heroic Stonecore are?

1st boss - get hit when he jumps out of his borrow and its a one shot (except maybe the tank). Guess i wouldn’t care about this one if it wasn’t so hard to tell where he’s going to jump out of the ground. Avoiding the smoke is pretty hard and requires some degree of luck, especially if you’re a tank trying to get agro on the spider adds.

3rd boss - eat one ground slam as a tank and its a one shot (or screw up and have him face the ranged during a ground slam). Eating just one shatter if you aren’t topped off will end things pretty quickly too (though i guess living living through it is much more feasible).

I guess i’m just ranting, and i like my boss fights hard… but just odd to me that these two are seemingly sooo much harder than all other bosses. I could also throw the shadow boss at the end of Halls of Origination in this discussion, but good dps makes her a non-issue.

Took my paladin to the Argent Tournament to grind a few Champion’s Seals toward buying another mount, and…

Geez, just how poorly-implemented is that jousting? I swear there wasn’t even another person in the entire zone, so lag shouldn’t have been any kind of issue, yet I was still finding myself losing two shields simultaneously, over and over.

Also, I discovered for myself that being level 85 is no help at all with the commanders on Battle Before the Citadel. I thought I’d try just attacking them straight out instead of doing the horse+lance thing. Yeah, that didn’t work very well :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve done all the heroic bosses now, and I don’t feel the first Stonecore boss is that hard. Fought him twice and both times we got him the first try, though he did eat a dps or two both times. Bosses that have killed me the most are probably Grim Batol dragon guy and Commander Springvale. Ozruk is nasty before tank and melee dps figure it out, I grant you that.

At the other end there’s a few bosses that almost make me fall asleep, like that sand boss and the life boss in Halls of Origination for example. Casting piddly 6k lightning bolts at them hardly feels exciting while I wait for the tank to fall under 95%.

The third boss is just evil. I died 6 times to him the other day, every one a tank-caused wipe, because I couldn’t keep up the dance. The first wasn’t so bad; there’s a reasonable amount of time to see and avoid the smoke, and the adds aren’t instant death for the squishies so you can take a bit of time rounding them up.

(Of course I’m a DK tank so I think right now I’ve got about the best aoe aggro in the game with blood boil spam; may be harder for other tank types.)

And the Grim Batol dragon guy is pretty much instant death if you’re in the wrong place, too; with the added bonus that if one dps goes down suddenly the fire adds become very tricky.

Hmm, maybe I did it wrong but it didn’t seem to work. I went to the macro button created a macro with the above as the text, put the macro on my activity bar and then tried to click on it, press the button on the avtivity bar right click it, nothing happened. I have managed to randomly hit 7 times but seem to usually overshoot. shoot!

Actually, instead of a macro just type or copy/paste it into your chat line and hit <enter>. Also, keep in mind that activating that command isn’t going to make your camera zoom out instantly. It just adjusts an internal setting that lets you use your mouse wheel to scroll out further than the default settings allow. So it may have done what it’s supposed to, but you need to manually zoom out to see it.

It depends on the items, you can see what’s needed for each thing much more easily through your guild info. There is one tab which lists all rewards, not only those currently available but all of them - and the rep requirements for each.

How does one say “segurola” in English? It’s someone who likes to play it safe, is there a one-word way to say that? I like segurola tanks, and one of the signs of a segurola tank is one who cleans that group of trash, having seen them pulled in a few times too many. That particular bunch seems to get pulled in about 1/3-1/2 of times, seriously…

Careful? Prudent? Cautious?

Dinged 85 on my warlock at the weekend at the end of an epic cut scene which seemed very fitting. RDF queues for dps are ridiculous at the moment so she’s still not entered a Cataclysm dungeon. Oh well rep grinding for gear and some PvP to look forward to.

82 on my Holy Pally but more importantly 525 JC and now I’m making money, earned all of the gold back I had spent and more. Though the process of buying the JC recipes is slow it does create opportunities to make good money early in the expansion if you buy what sells\what is missing from the AH not what you necessarily need for your toon.

Supermegacautious, I guess. Thanks, I hate it when I have dictionary-farts.

Uh-oh.

I tried signing into WoW briefly this morning, just to see if there was a maintenance window scheduled for today. When I double-clicked on my WoW desktop icon, the machine pondered for a moment, then displayed a WoW dialog box that said:

“Launcher cannot obtain patching information. Please check your internet connection”.

Tried it a couple more times, and got the same error. I know my internet connection is fine; I’m telecommuting today (as is my wife) and we’re both able to work without a problem. Furthermore, I’m not having any trouble surfing other web sites on that computer.

So I go downstairs to our laptop. I’d installed WoW on that a few weeks back while my main computer was being repaired, and I’ve just gone ahead and kept it up to date since then. Tried starting WoW on it, and got the exact same error message. Crap.

Did a quick check of the Blizzard technical forums, and found a sticky post dating from November with others having the same problem, but Blizzard doesn’t seem to have a solution. Several possible solutions are listed, but none of them say “this is the answer”.

Just as a test, I tried disabling my security software (Kaspersky Internet Security), but still got the error, so apparently I’m not getting the error because Kaspersky’s blocking anything.

Everything was working fine on Sunday when I was playing, and there haven’t been any changes to my computer since then – I didn’t even turn it on yesterday.

Crap, I hate stuff like this.

It’s happening to everyone I know who’s playing–and some of them are on Macs. It’ll probably be better later today, since it’s, yanno, obviously Blizz’s issue.

Indeed as reported on wow insider: Launcher and WoW are down its not just you/

No folks, it’s not just you. WoW is undergoing maintenance today, as is usual. Maintenance has been going on since 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST and will last until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. The only difference is, this time around, the launcher isn’t even working, which is causing a lot of people to wonder if something is wrong with their internet configurations (thanks, no doubt, due to the lovely maintenance box).

I love how Blizzard preemptively blames your internet connection.

ah, no mouse wheel, just buttons. thank you though I will save it for later when I have a different mouse.
