New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

It’s a huge time sink! Actually some of the rare items are interesting and the pet or mount would be cool to have, but I haven’t been able to justify the time to level up past 235 or so, so I’m the wrong person to give advice.

Cool, I should be on by 8:00 and Friday is the one night I can play pretty late.

Ooooookay, this has to be a bug. I was doing some archaeology, and a dig in Loch Modan resulted in my finding a Dwarf Rune Stone, and upon digging it up I heard a creepy voice say, “You are already dead.” I had a similar thing happen yesterday, also upon digging up a Dwarf Rune Stone, though it was more of a threatening groan rather than actual words.

That would be 6pm my time…usually dinner and dishes…so maybe more like 7 or 7:30pm.

Other way around, Deadly poison has a fixed proc rate while Instant is Procs Per Minute based, so the faster the weapon the more Deadly poison procs you get. Instant poison’s proc rate on the other hand will depend on the speed of the weapon it is applied too, the slower the weapon, the higher the proc chance so that on average you get same number of procs per minute from auto attacks.

Anyway, I wouldn’t bother with Deadly poison on regular mobs since they’re unlikely to survive long enough for it to be worth it, better to go Instant/Instant or maybe even Wound/Wound since you’re Combat, I’m not sure about the exact numbers for Combat but I think that Wound poison’s proc chance is so much higher than Instant’s that it will compensate for the lower damage per proc.
But for anything that will live long enough for you to get 5 stacks of Deadly poison go Instant/Deadly.

Are you using Deadly Boss Mods? According to one of the comments on the “Dwarf Runestone” WowHead page, those are coming from DBM.

ETA: Looks like there are corroborating comments on other sites, including the official forums.

Cool, thanks

Thanks - it was bugging me

I’m leveling my Archeology on one toon. It is a major time sink. But since I’m only waiting for LFG to pop, it’s not too bad. I’ve gotten a couple cute rares, and one epic, (lvl 60 BtA-robes). Not really sure how useful that’ll be, since I also own the Heirloom chest. Since the archeology ones are useful for only a few levels and probably not even as good as my heirlooms, I doubt they’ll get any use.
But the fossilized pet is kinda cute.

I had kind of an interesting situation with Tailspin Betty tonight: we got down to one quest (and that was not declining ANY that were offered! Which was strange in itself).

The one that was left was “Furlbrow’s Deed” and that one has a bug in it. It asks you to take the deed back to Jansen’s, only there’s no one there to give it to. I looked it up on Thotbot, and the last comment was that a game mod said they were working on it.

So… (unbeknownst to me there was a “Capt. Sanders’ Treasure Map” quest in one of my bags), I thought to myself, “WTF? THIS has never happened before?”

So because by then she was level 14, we flew to SW to see if there were some new threads and /or weapons for her, and lo and behold - we see a yellow exclamation point. Clicked on it and it was “Hero’s Call To Redridge”, and that’s where we are now.

Strange though, that I had NEVER gotten down that low with quests before.

For SFG: (the flashing portrait) It eventually stopped when I got back to my questing place, and no, it wasn’t that I had a talent point waiting.

I am speccing Tailspin in Fury, just for the experience (Wolkie is Arms and Prot) and I want to get all 10 of 'em on horseback and then work with one at a time.

Also, yeah… Darrowmere: I tried to sign on there this afternoon to work with my Worgen hunter, Fokko and the population was “high” and red so the game kicked me back to the top.

Thanks

Did you do all the quests at Sentinel Hill, including finding out who the new head of the Defias is? If you did, then you managed to stumble into another phasing bug. You’re supposed to give the deed to the CSI:Stormwind guy at the Jansen Stead, but if you waited until the phasings in Westfall start, you’re out of luck, because once you start doing the stuff at Furlbrow’s Pumpkin Patch and the thugs kill the hobo, Horatio Caine or whatever his name is in the game phases over to the Furlbrow place. And then later he and his crew phase to Sentinel Hill. Once they phase, that quest becomes stuck in Limbo, because you can only give it to him at the Jansen Stead.

How are you managing to trip headfirst into just about every phasing bug the game has?

If no one’s mentioned it, your portrait tends to glow when you have rested xp available. When you’re on a lower level toon, you rarely see it since you tend to burn through the rested xp quickly. Just a thought.

Still waiting for that day myself; always on offense, always lose so far. :smack:

I wish they’d change it up a bit. Horde is going to own Tol Barad on AD until WoW is dead and gone.

Yeah, the new questing system makes it so that you don’t end up with a full quest log like you used to. You have to pretty much take the quests in order as they’re handed out, rather than grabbing them all at once.

Also, be sure to do the Capt. Sanders quest chain - you end up with a nice shirt for fishing (well, that’s what I wear it for anyway).

Speaking of Tol Barad, I hauled my mage over there one day while the Alliance had it, to try out the dailies. I only did the one where you’re supposed to clear out the ghosts on the hill behind the base camp, and along with the Alliance players doing the daily there were a crapton of (unflagged) Hordies in there whacking the ghosts, too.

Now, since only the controlling faction has access to the dailies, is it safe to assume that those Hordies were just there killing stuff to !@#$ with us/make it harder for us? Or were they possibly farming something from those ghosts (I didn’t notice the ghosts I killed dropping anything useful).

jayjay,

I think what’s happening is I’m skipping around and not taking the quests in order (well some of them anyway). The deed one finally turned gray, so I dropped it.

One thing I’m not clear on: if quests aren’t offered by the guys with the exclamation points, I’m supposed to go looking for them?

Such as the Sentinel Hill quests you mentioned, jay? I didn’t know I was supposed to go there, because no one sent me there.

That chasm slime one was interesting: you begin to fight and this giant chick morphs out of them. Shame to have to kill her…

Gonna run into a prob on the last of the Redridge ones. We’ll have to go way back into the canyons and caves, and there’s one boss that’s way up on a pedestal-like rock that you have to kill, and man, is he ever hard to get to…

Thanks, Tao for the info, that makes sense.

Thanks

Look at that shield, y’all. Doesn’t it look like it came off a ship? and doesn’t it look like you oughta be able to spin it? Pretty sure she got it off that Capt. Grey at the old Westfall lighthouse.

Here she is at level 18 all armored up!

Gonna level her to 20 and buy here a horse Saturday, then work on Usumbij.

Question: A paladin needs both mana and strength stuff, right?

Thanks

Trying pt get to grips with my main again. The hacker has him specced and geared as a fury warrior. Am in Hy’jal trying to figure it out. Gearscore is 4.5k, how far of fthe pace is that for Cata?

IIRC, the quests at Jansen Stead eventually send you to Saldean’s Farm, then those quests send you to Sentinel Hill.

The dailies on the peninsula are available to anyone regardless which side controls. When you win the PVP battle, there are 5 or 6 more dailies that open up to you on the Island where the PVP battle takes place.

The awesome thing is that, although the game chooses the 6 TBP dailies randomly from a pool of a couple dozen, the Horde and Alliance always get the same ones, forcing you to compete with each other in addition to the 50 other people of your own faction. What an annoying piece of shit hub.

I finally got to make some Dreamcloth. However, I about died when I looked harder at the mats involved. Plus the requirements for however many you need for a crafted epic. Good lord. I about swooned. 8 bolts of embersilk, 30 volatiles. And then a weekly CD. And then the product is BOP which makes it tougher for players looking to buy said Dreamcloth-containing crafted epic off the tailor. …!

One and Only, I don’t know – to be honest, I haven’t heard anyone (even the trade trolls) talking about gearscore for a while. I would look at your character screen, which shows an ingame ilvl based on both what you have on and what’s in your bags. The requirement for Cat Hs is 329, for the record, and Cat Hs are on a par with LK raids IMO, due to the need for intelligent groups.

My war has made it up to 53 now, and is about 1/3 way into 54 with the help of a friendly guildie with a touring rocket for the Northrend Elders. I’m still having a blast with him and am doing comparatively well in dungeon runs. It’s a lot more interesting for me than, say, boomie. And with enh shaman I felt like I was struggling with all the bits and bobbles, but he was pre 4.0.1 so things very likely have changed.
