New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

jayjay,

It was bought at the AH (Darnassus).

Kept thinking “Gotta be a glitch. It’s at level 12 and we’re 15!”

Guess there’s a good reason. Because of the pet, maybe? Meaning since my cat helps me fight, then to have a fighting pet AND mail armor would be kinda lopsided and unfair?

Thanks, and yeah, I’ll auction it off.

Q

There are four classes that can learn new armor at lvl 40: shamans and hunters go from leather to mail, and warriors and paladins go from mail to plate. Not sure why.

Oh yeah, almost forgot! My “vanity guild”, <Order of The Rik>, is now a big Level 2 guild. Done that all by my lonesome

Plus many people don’t bother put an actual reason, but just fill in a couple of letters. Without performing an actual statistically-valid study, the people who attempt to kick for no evident reason are also the ones most likely to fill in “kgjh” or some such. You wouldn’t have thought that “low dps”, “dc” or “afk” was such an enormous effort to type, but apparently it is.

Jbone, that’s not casual, that’s “what are you guys doing, running a daycare?”

Theres a box you can tick on sayoing something like “Only show if usable”. Any eq you can’t use won’t be offered to you.

Yay for second level 85! My pally tore through Twilight Highlands to ding, the Shroud of Cooperation he picked as an added bonus up looks superb, I love our guild crest.

Even better my warlock is now visible on her Armory page. About time.

Played just long enough last night to do the cooking daily (getting me up to 525!), fish up a bunch of Deepsea Sagefish for the +Int buff food and get a couple of dragon flanks I needed to make another feast. I’ll try to work up the courage to pug a heroic on my pally tonight - I’m encouraged after our guild success on Monday.

And yay, the Dogs are now up to level 8, for the 15-minute hearth cooldown. (Of course, this would have been nicer while I was still doing three sets of dailies on Muz; as it stands he only needs 2 days of Therazane dailies and then he’ll be permanently parked in Uldum, flying between the artillery and the garden gnomes.)

So i logged on after work yesterday (around 6:00PM) and a Tol Barad was just getting ready to start so i queued up.

We’re on offense so i think “Oh Crap, well i’ll stick it out and see what happens”. we went on to domminate and win in about 5 mins. This on a server where my side (alliance) probably lost 9 out of 10 wintergrasps (if we wont that often). I think i was litterally speachless. I almost got up out of my chair and danced a little dance.

Congratulations!

I finally got my Tol Barad drake yesterday (had to save up 200 Commendations to do it–good thing the trinket you can get from there isn’t good for DK tanks, so I saved some money there). It’s not the most beautiful thing around, but it’s kind of cool looking. I have it on random rotation with my 10-man ICC drake.

My little raid team is now 9/12 as of last night–we got Chimaeron down at last, and Ascendant Council went down easily the night before. Not one piece of tank gear dropped all week, though, which is annoying. Our loot drops seem to go in clusters, showering one or two particular raid members with bounty one week and then ignoring them the next week. This week was our ret paladin and rogue’s week–which is a good thing, given that the rogue was a main-swap and we needed to get him geared, and the ret paladin was undergeared. In any case, it’s really making me feel good that the team I’m leading is doing so well. I think we’re 3rd in progression for our guild’s teams, after the “superstar” team stacked with top raiders and the team run by the extremely motivated and very good raid leader who drives me crazy. I’ll take it.

Oh, and we’ve made 46,000 gold so far selling BoE epics that nobody wanted, which gives us quite a nice little nest egg for buying cauldron materials and whatnot. Since our guild’s raiding structure has split off into several autonomous raid teams, everybody is kind of keeping their own cash stashes. Hopefully the BoE train will keep rolling, and all we’ll have to pay for is repairs.

Is that artillery daily bugged on your server like it is on Lightbringer? On Lightbringer (and apparently on other servers), the target mobs don’t march around like they’re supposed to, except for the closest, front-and-center squad. But it seems they are actually moving, but the animation is not showing them moving, so you end up just having to sort of randomly target spots where the squads might be, and hope you get lucky. It makes that quest take a very long time.

Yes. It’s annoying. I mostly just blow up the front guys.

Right. *Everything *resets every year for holiday events: the quests reset, so any incomplete achievements reset, too, since the way they track is by completed quests. The only things you get to keep are completed achievements.

No, you’re never going to be the only player on the server. Like Ferret Herder mentioned, you can do a /who to see other people who are online (from your faction only). You can restrict the search by name, guild, level, race, class, and zone.

So if you wanted to see all of the Hunters from level 1 to 25, you would type:

/who Hunter 1-25

No, I meant like if he was asking here.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I missed a boat on Sleu once, and even on a 310% speed mount, it stayed just barely out of my reach until it disappeared. Other times, though, I’ve been close enough to make it.

1.) Go up to a mob or a pack of mobs outside of an instance.
2.) Trap.
3.) Repeat until you’re comfortable with it.

CC is something that you can very, very easily practice on your own.

Yay!

There are sometimes a couple of new options that you can’t get from the character creation screen. For instance, the hairstyle I had for a long time on my main when she was still a Night Elf was a pair of looped braids, which you can only get on a Nelf through the Barbershop.

You’d want to right-click your mounted buff to take it off.

There’s really no need to CC anymore with a solid group. If you’re really having a hard time keeping up, though, you can certainly ask the tank to CC for you. On the rare occaions where I’m running a Heroic without a guild healer, I’ll always check with the PUG one to see if they feel comfortable running with no CC.

She probably wanted Ret and/or Holy gear.

Yup. Any level 12 Mail will be completely outdated by the time he hits 40. You want to get him Leather for now.

Where is the portrait flashing? In the upper left of your screen, where it has your face, level, name, HP, and all that? The only time I can think of that flashing is when you’re resting or in combat, but that would be the same as your other toons. Or is it one of the interface icons on your bar? Did you use his Talent points?

Grats! I haven’t seen a single Cata rarespawn yet. As for selling or keeping: IMO, sell. The PvP DPS bracers are probably better.

There’s no real rhyme or reason that I’ve ever seen. Some classes keep their same armor the whole time (all Cloth stay Cloth, Rogues and Druids stay Leather, and DKs start with Plate because they start at 55), and some get an upgrade at 40 (Warriors and Paladins go from Mail to Plate, and Hunters and Shamans go from Leather to Mail).

Now that I have a pair of hunters in the lvl 72-73 range (Jabloo, my troll on Cairne, and Nouveus, my night elf on Argent Dawn), I thought I’d ask the other hunters out there: Am I better off with +Agility food, or +Attack Power food? I’ve gone +Strength on my paladins and warrior, and for my mage I went with +Spell Power in Wrath and now +Intellect in Cata, but these hunters are my first +70 Agility-based toons.
And a rogue question: I rolled another gnome rogue, and I’m actually having fun this time. I’ve gotten her to level 25, which is 5 levels higher than any previous rogue I’ve rolled. At this point she has access to three poisons: “Instant”, “Crippling”, and “Mind-Numbing”. I’m ignoring the Mind-Numbing poison for now, since its utility seems limited to caster mobs, and in any case I’m killing regular quest mobs fast enough that Gouge seems more than sufficient to interrupt casting long enough for me to stab the caster to death. So that leaves me with “Instant” and “Crippling” poison. At the moment, I’m using the “Crippling” poison on my throwing weapon, and the “Instant” on both melee weapons (sword in main hand, dagger in off-hand). When I hit level 30 I’ll have access to, I think, “Deadly” poison, which has a DoT effect. I just want to make sure I understand correctly: Keep using “Instant” poison on the off-hand dagger (the faster weapon), and use the “Deadly”/DoT poison on the sword (the slower weapon)? I should add: Combat specced rogue.

Shadow Priest: I’ve gotten one past level 50. Since Shadow isn’t a healing spec, do I even need to worry about Spirit? And when it comes to TBC/Wrath/Cata foods, should I go with +SP/+Int?

One more boss down last night (Omnitron), bringing the total for the raid up to 5, I believe. The Omnitron kill was as sloppy as can be (partially because I had to tank, and am rather under-geared for that right now). Still absolutely no drops for me, although I’m getting close to first tier from VP.

Got a few pulls in on Atramedes, and I think I got the hang of the mechanic and movement as melee. Now we just need everyone else to figure it out… :frowning:

I can’t help you with the rogue, but Shadow Priests convert Spirit to +Hit (I forget if it is passive, or requires a talent). It also boosts your mana regen. So at higher levels, it is preferable to +Hit.

But you don’t need to worry about +hit at your level, so I wouldn’t worry about Spirit too much unless maybe you find yourself having to drink constantly.

AFAIK you want Agi: it will give you both AP and Crit.

I think you actually want Instant on your slower mainhand and Deadly on your faster offhand, but you’ll want to double-check on that; I haven’t played my Rogue in months. Crippling can also be swapped onto your offhand for mobs that have a tendency to run from you, because your Thrown weapon had a dead range where you won’t be able to slow them down until they’re already a ways away.

Yeah, that, and every Vanilla buff food gives +Spirit

Cool, that’s what I thought, but I wasn’t sure. Of course, at the moment I’m cooking a +AP food, since I don’t know the +Agi recipes yet (what I get for not keeping my Cooking skill up).

My thinking/understanding was that, since Instant gives a straight +damage, you want it hitting more often, but I’m open to correction there.

Just got my first 2 archaeology tokens. What’s the deal with archaeology?

Gonna try to get on earlier tonight so we can group up…maybe we can manage another 4 or 5 man heroic tonight.
