New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

You did use Camouflage, right? I’m sure you already know that, but we had to remind one of our hunters (a raider, even!) to use it when he wandered too close to a mob and pulled aggro in Bastion of Twilight the other night.

And the main reason is that I learned so much strategy with Wolkie, that now my 9 other toons (of various classes) are a breeze to work with.

For instance, I now know which buttons to click and when. Before it was just random - can you believe that? Hush! I know you can!

Also, my toons are auctioning things whereas before I vendored them. None of the newbies are farming yet, though they do have professions.

Also in the AH, I’m paying closer attention to crit strike rating, what I DON’T need (intellect for the Warriors for instance) and how the purchase of a certain item can affect my characters.

My other 4 warrior toons have all taken on Hogger by themselves, whereas Wolkie needed help. (I know I shouldn’t be too critical about that since he was just getting started at that time).

Only thing I find a bit disappointing is Gilneas City. Not the Worgen - the city itself. AFAIK, there isn’t a mailbox anywhere except at the inn, and you can’t go to the capital city till you do all the quests in the Gilneas area.

Also, I think my lady toons look hotter’n hell - especially Tailspin (Betty). They all have white hair, a la Wolkie. I just think there’s something incredibly sexy about a woman with white hair.

Speaking of that - I wish when you take a lady into a hair salon the styles offered there weren’t the same as those when you’re creating the character. I was kinda looking for one that looks like Jessica Rabbit or that pony tail like that Cyclops-lookin’ chick on Futurama.

As stated above, the Worgen are kinda limited in their hairstyles, but I don’t think a Worgen chick with white hair would look especially ravishing (except for that body, that is!;)).

Anyway, just an update on the new toons I’m working with and how much easier it is this go-round, thanks to y’all.

Also wanted to mention that I’m enjoying using stealth with my Belf Rogue Tanus when we cross that black area in Eversong!

Q

.

Is that something you can set in the interface or can you just click your pet and get off, martu?

Thanks

I didn’t think I was close enough to get aggro. It was a mistake on my part, but I was judging how far the trap launcher would reach and thought it would need to be launched by that location. Again, one of those things that you just need to learn.

I’m pretty sure you guys just told your hunter that he was temporarily huntarded and needed to use Camo, not ‘wtf were you doing’ and ‘never mind, we’ll just use hex’. I mean, I’ve never seen a tank dumped the first time he aggroed too many things, you just say ‘whoops, let’s try that again’.

Eh, just laugh it off. And, to be honest, if you have a hex available I’d prefer to use it anyways - just fewer things that can go wrong when compared to trap launcher.

I have. Many times. :frowning:

:frowning: I’ve seen it when the tank grabs too much at least 3 times, but never on the first muckup.

Also, it’s a good thing Anduin is so cute, or else he’d get annoying quickly!

Bonus note: Varian, you did not just wave your sword around and say you were Lo’Gosh after just standing there in the throne room. :dubious:

I just finished Heroic: Deadmines for the first time. Up until VVC, none of the fights were really all that bad. Don’t stand in the fire, don’t get hit by a flame wall, run up the ramp from Foe Reaver—pretty easy stuff. But wow was that nightmare segment of VVC intense. We constantly had someone not running immediately for the door on the goblin nightmare part, I was stupid and facepulled the foe reaver nightmare (though to my credit, the tank who was telling us what to do didn’t warn me about getting off to the side of the catapult at the end of the lightning fan run, so I quite naturally ran towards the door instead). This tank also apparently didn’t believe in CC, since, wow, not a single CC spell or ability was used the entire run. I literally went through 15 Highland Spring waters cause of burning through so much mana.

Hrm, I am surprised. It keeps me seated, and I proceed to change stuff on the human.
Not that any of it really shows on the Worgen, but meh. I’ve done it a few times that way; I wonder if it changed :frowning:

I think you can just click the riding buff but I’m not sure as I use a macro:

/dismount [mounted]

which is bound to the ‘6’ key for all my toons.

Finally finished off Uldum and logged off at 89% into 84, tonight I’ll have my second 85 and also the guild will get the ‘A Class Act’ achievement.

MOMMMEEE! The game likes Tao better than me!

I haven’t gotten kicked out of many groups, but I expect that my current record for fastest kick will last me a long time:

  1. sign up
  2. “dungeon in progress, want in?”
  3. click ok
  4. paladin tank - “UGH, another paladin, what’s it with paladins today?”
  5. you’ve been kicked.
Excuse me, miss Macarena Platethong, I’m not going to roll on your tanking stuff, ok? I’m single spec! Sheesh, at least give a woman time to screw up before you kick her/yell at her!

Sounds like kushiel ran into a relative of Miss Macarena’s.
Forgot: I think it’s in the other thread that I read about “heroic Vortice, dragon, ranged just stick your bum to the wall in an out of the way corner and stand still”. Did that yesterday and it worked, although the healer was angry at me until someone else vouched for my “zero damage if I get closer” (my main is a hunter).

Oh, no worries there; spent hours last night doing all but reinstalling WoW because I couldn’t complete the Body Blows quest.

The 4th GM finally told me that you never target the abscesses, but right click on them and bam.

Hey, at least the last guy knew

/reinstalls tomtom

The 4th!? GM… you sure have more patience than I do! By the third one I’m considering trips to Paris to insert the Eiffel Tower’s antenna into the first two’s aftmost orifices.

Wasn’t going to say anything, but since a couple of us are talking about weird bootings, I thought I’d share mine from last night.
LFG pops, and I enter dungeon. Then the entire group gets teleported out of the dungeon. Everyone clicks, ‘Teleport into Dungeon’ again and we get started. After first boss, I get booted with no reason. I’m pulling decent dps for a non-heroic, wasn’t causing any problem. Wasn’t until afterwards and was closing my recount that I noticed that 3 of the others came from the same server (not sure if they were the same guild too). So either: a) They wanted to make room for a friend or b) The instance bugged out and we all got booted.
I’m not losing sleep about either option, but if a group votes to kick, don’t they need to put in a reason and doesn’t that reason get displayed to the bootee?

Yes the person who initiates the kick has to put in a reason. No the person who gets kicked doesn’t get to know about it.

Commence rant:

I guess I just had a blah night yesterday. I hopped on to my paladin and did a healer queue for a random. Stonecore, yippie. Fortunately it was an all-guild run (except for me). These guys must have been pretty casual because someone seemed to take a break every couple minutes. When I joined, they had all the trash cleared up to the first boss. It basically went like this. Wait, wait --> wipe on boss (phase 2 insta-gib) -->wait,wait -->wipe on boss again (more phase 2 stuff) --> wait, wait, and after 45 minutes from first joining --> boss kill.

Of course, after the boss dies, we loot and had to wait for someone else to do something, we pulled the first stone add, killed it, and then waited again so I left the group. Normally, I stick things out to the very end, but it was kind of ridiculous. From here I figured I would jump on my rogue and queue up while I did some alchemy work.

36 minutes into the queue I get my heroic, Throne of the Tides. Similar to the paladin, this group was on the first boss. We wiped the first time because the tank said he wanted me on the right-side add to interrupt it. I didn’t remember getting that message so the add took out the healer (why the tank didn’t pick up both center and right is beyond me; left add was sheeped).
So second go around, I downed the right add, fought fought fought, tank died, druid battle rezzed, but tank had went afk and he died again. We wiped with boss at 900k health. This prompted the tank to group quit. We requeued, but the healer declined and quit as well. Requeued with 3 dps. From there the estimated 1 minute wait time got up to 26 minutes at which point one of the dps disconnected and we were removed from the dungeon finder queue. I vote-booted the DC’d player out and a minute after, the other dps leaves group. I requeued (solo), estimated wait time: 43 minutes. /keyboard smash. After a slew of cussing I hopped back on to my paladin, gave a few of my dps guildies a quick queue as tank, left group and exited WoW. Grabbed a beer, watched the Military channel for 15 minutes, and went to bed.

I’m hoping tonight goes a little better…
/rant

I guess I was a little more fortunate than some of you…got Grim Batol, but only in normal mode. It took us about 50 minutes, I didn’t die once, and the only complaint I really had was that I told everyone that I will mark a mob with a star that I will repent and someone else decide to keep casting sleep or ice block on my mob instead of some other mob.

Other than that…relatively painless. But if we were in heroic mode…
BTW: Made a couple of Shadowspirit cuts last night and put them in guild bank…One is for melee dps, 3 others for healers…will plan on getting a design for a tank next (the one with +81 stam and %2 armor increase). JC is at 519 now. Thanks Rahuul!

For Usumbij, my Nelf Hunter.:frowning:

Wish I’d known that before I bought about 5 pieces!:smack:

Bank it or auction it? My brain (!) says auction. Is that right?

Also why is his portrait flashing? He’s level 15 and trained up?

Thanks

Q

Did you buy the armor on the AH or at a vendor? I’m assuming it’s for his current level, which means that by the time you reach 40, it’s going to be fairly useless. If it was bought from the AH, you should try to sell it for at least what you paid for it. If it was from a vendor, just sell it back to a vendor…vendor armor isn’t going to go on the AH for anything.

Yar, by that point I was figuring it was a waste of time, and was basically just asking if there was a way to work around the quest; since everything is so linear, I didn’t want to be locked out of the rest of the zone because of one quest. I’d looked online and seen other people had had the same issues, gone through the same support processes, with no luck.

So, if anyone has something they can hover over but not target, try right clicking, even though there is nothing there to make you think right clicking would accomplish anything.

Schweet! I was doing the Therazane dailies on my warrior and as I popped out of the cave after doing the gyreworm & painite quests, NPCScan honked at me, and there was Terborus sitting there all big and yellow and ready for killing. Tagged him, killed him (he’s surprisingly weak), and looted him. Those Terborus’s Rotating Bands sure are purty. Debating whether to to equip them or sell them (current AH price: 4500g). I should probably equip them, since they appear to be the best plate DPS bracers I’m going to find outside of a dungeon.
I have a new hobby: running around Stormwind laughing at daily quest spawn campers.
