New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I know GM’s sometimes monitor chat, but do they ever step in to help solve someone’s problem?

I was in R’utheran Village 2 nights ago with Sugrfoot and got into a conversation with another player about how she didn’t have a fp to Darkshore, (Funny how guys will help you when they think you’re a girl!;)) and was going to have to swim.

Well, I took her to SW and then back to R’utheran and was going to fly her back to Darnassus when I saw there was now a fp to Darkshore where she now is.

I know I’m not imaging it because she was only a level 9 at the time.

Q

I accidentally clicked the “Train” button while talking to the Dalaran flight trainer intending to just inspect the new ability. :smack: Had I gone to SW and trained there, I would have paid only 4000g.

I am curious as to why no rep discounts apply to that trainer in Dalaran, though. This toon was Exalted with every Northrend faction except the Frenzyheart and the Ashen Verdict. Mei Francis, the mount vendor in Dalaran, gives Kirin Tor rep discounts, but the trainer out on Krasus gives nothing.

They really need to fix that. But that seems to be how it works: talk to the Flight Master the first time, no path to Lor’danel. Hit <Escape>, then click to talk to him again, and now you do have the flight path.

Chronic complaint about the game. Unfortunately, I don’t see them changing it anytime soon.

I was repeatedly stuck at loading screens yesterday, to where I can’t even Alt+F4 out of the game and have to manually kill the process in Task Manager. Completely obnoxious.

No. Interrupts and stuns are two different mechanics (e.g., a stun can’t help you move a caster mob, and an interrupt can’t help you keep a mob in place). As a Belf Prot Warr, I have two interrupt/silences, one silence, and two stuns, and I use all of them (and in different ways).

Also, when the hell are they going to lower my effing Shield Bash CD to 10 seconds or less? Jeeze. Just take the Daze effect off if it’s that big a deal.

I would assume that since originally no flight trainer offered rep discounts the flight trainer in Dalaran was not associated with any faction. But for some reason they didn’t change her when they changed the others, it’s all moot now anyway, since she currently offers rep discounts based on Kirin Tor rep. Don’t know when they changed it though.

Must have been after Cataclysm officially launched. I got my training after The Shattering, but before Cata launched.

It’s a good rule of thumb to *always *check Wowpedia/Wowhead/etc. before purchasing any riding training. There’s a good chance that if the trainer you know of doesn’t offer a rep discount, another one does, and the savings can be substantial.

Hunter questions:

Has anybody run into this thing where your pet somehow doesn’t make the boat trip with you? Your pet is out, you get on a boat to travel from, say, Northrend to Stormwind, and after arriving in SW you at some point notice your pet is gone?
Is there an addon that will automatically turn off “Track Humanoids” when you enter a city (and, optionally, automatically turn it back on when you leave the city)? If I have Track Humanoids on in SW, my minimap is a solid mass of green dots.

Yes, pets seem to have a pathological fear of boats, elevators, airships, doorways, and terrain changes.

Looks possible in the API, so I’ll bet there’s one out there somewhere.

I haven’t played my Hunter in a while, but for a while now non-combat pets (companions) won’t follow you onto or off of boats, zeps, etc.

Check for tracking addons on Curse. (I can’t get there from here, or I’d see if one I used to use was viable.) You’ll probably want to keep an eye out for things that have options to enable/disable certain types of tracking while resting.

Apparently people are up in arms over how much more powerful a priest’s power word:shield is now compared to pre-patch. It’s not just pvpers but raiders as well. There’s a World of Logs parse floating around with a highly-ranked disc priest (named Tiduz) who beat every other healer in his raid with basically just shield spam, whereas disc throughput was bottom of the barrel the day before. Kinda goes against the one-button philosophy blizz is trying to get away from so it’s probably going to be nerfed.

Now shields are expensive, so this isn’t a viable tactic for your average player (or me, being only 5/12 non-heroic atm), but apparently pw:s is scaling too well. Which makes me sad because it’s going to be nerfed, and last night was the first time I’ve enjoyed healing a heroic since cata came out. (healing heroics as holy is super boring, ok! at least compared to disc)

Also just a sidenote: apparently my battlegroup includes the Spanish-speaking Latin America server Ragnaros. It must really suck for them to be stuck with so many English-speakers all the time. But I know a little Spanish from my high school days and I always enjoy getting into groups with them because I can practice mi espanol! I got into a pug h sfk with 4 of them last night (and I’m glad we didn’t try to pull Springvale out of the room because that would have been a wipe for sure, though I hadn’t seen that patch note until just now)

Honestly I don’t understand the Springvale problem. It took me maybe twenty seconds of tanking him to figure out that tanking him on the stage and swapping between the right and left sides of it as he dropped his ground AOE worked perfectly. Most of the adds don’t hit hard enough to be a problem, and the ranged can just run up to the stage if they need an add peeled.

No, the game won’t make decisions for you. The best option I can think of is to install power auras and configure an aura to alert you if you are in combat and the track humanoids buff is not activated. Since most people don’t get into combat in major cities, this is a workaround.

I have NEVER successfully pulled him to the courtyard. The one time I was in a group that insisted on trying it (even though I’d already killed him the “right” way in three different groups by then, it having never occurred to us to try to bug out the adds), the tank took so much damage on the way out to it that he died before he got to us. Then we tried me running along with the tank to heal him as he ran, and I was completely oom by the time we got out there (holy priest mobile healing wasn’t very efficient for me at the time). Then we did it in the room and bam, oneshot.

Well they had to do something – it was pretty useless before (speaking as a holy priest). It should at least be worth putting up on the tank in a 5-man heroic, but instead it was just a waste of mana. If it’s really OP now maybe they can do something about the scaling, but I hope they don’t nerf it too much.

Based on my recollection of an addon I used to use, I’m reasonably sure you’re wrong here. It could absolutely toggle among various types of tracking depending on external conditions.

The times I’ve tried to do it, we didn’t have the DPS to keep ahead of the adds and stuff would eventually spiral out of control.

Then kick the people who can’t do the bare minimum 5k and pick up people who don’t suck so much?

When? Addons used to be able to choose targets and cast things based on a set of predetermined conditions (like Decursive), but the API access to those became protected in Burning Crusade. If you recall the name of the mod I could look at it (because I am genuinely curious), but Blizz has generally taken a pretty hard stance against the game presing butan for a player.

I’m a holy priest too. Disc offspec just for stuff I do on my own since my guild has thus far needed me to be holy. The only reason bubble was worth casting was for Body and Soul procs (helpful when running back after a wipe, lol). But bubble is not a primary holy ability. It definitely is a primary disc ability. Nobody who’s complaining about the viability of bubble atm is talking about holy because holy has a 3s cooldown on bubble, and lacks the bubble-enhancing talents in the disc tree. It’s just not an issue. There’s always something better for holy to be casting than bubble; the tree and ability were designed that way.

So not to be a jerk or anything, but if you have been casting bubble as a tank-buffer as holy, you’re doing it wrong. That’s disc’s role. But before, even disc bubbles were getting eaten off tanks in one hit or less. It definitely needed a buff, but not because holy bubbles were bad. Holy bubbles SHOULD be bad.

Because they were guildies?

The old ItemRack addon could be set up to detect when you entered a city and automatically swap your “Combat” gear set for your “Town” gear set (basically a feature for RP). No real reason why an addon couldn’t detect the same conditions and simply switch a particular tracking type on/off. Would this even be a combat-related decision-making issue any more? I’ll have to look at my hunter’s talents, but the new-ish ability to have every single tracking type turned on at the same time would render any damage bonus for having the right type of tracking turned on kind of moot.
