My Facebook campaign to just go ahead and Execute the Farson Hold Prisoner is a success! (Who knew that only 3 people liking a page was enough to make it a success?)
My nelf hunter is busy working toward Champion of Stormwind, having finished the Darnassus stuff. I wish I could make that whole thing go faster, cuz I want to buy one of those Argent Tournament tabards for the teleport. I find myself remembering Blizz taking the portals out of Dal and explaining that they were no longer necessary now that there are auction houses and trainers there … yeah, except they decided to put dailies in SW (the fishing daily being extremely helpful even at this toon’s level, since he sort of neglected fishing while going through Outland; the +1 or +2 each day has been great. Having just spent almost all my gold on fast flying, I figure I can save up the Champion’s Seals for that tabard faster than I can earn back the money to buy a ring.
He’s also started the Oracles dailies today. I found that killing Artruis the Heartless was remarkably easy as a hunter using a tenacity pet. I remember that being a royal pain on my paladin, what with that lich freezing her in place and moving just out of melee range all the time.
There weren’t any warriors around (our tank was a DK, the other melee a rogue) and the time I spellstealed whenever we got out of Paralyze but before he got the Bulwark up was the time we did NOT wipe. So apparently there are times you bloody well ought’a spellsteal off Ozruk.
On preview, what aktep said. I was good at shooting the SS fast and my guildies were good at not casting for the microsecond Bulwark was up.
The casting-all-the-time effect from having Zen’Kiki around wasn’t there when I did those quests in my hunter, but I was doing them with my druid yesterday and it was… annoying. It’s the kind of stupid bug that irritates me professionally dagnabit
- I’m supposed to be playing, not thinking “stupid coders”.
Had a Grim Batol run with the minitank: it was a PUG, so instead of minitanking I was playing the Braun Minipimer of Death. The palatank was… ok let’s forget about his aggro-holding capability for a moment: if you’re a paladin or a druid, and you’re signing up as “tank or healer”, how come you don’t watch the healer’s mana? That makes my head hurt every time. Anyway. I wasn’t doing my Twirly Death thing a lot having seen that it peeled mobs off, but used it on bosses and a couple of times to get mobs off our ranged - I was still 1st/2nd DPS all the time; the tank examined me and said “oh, you’re Arms,” (yeah, and you’re not very perceptive if it’s taken you two bosses and an examine to figure it out - do you see two big weapons? No? Only one? Guess!) “go Fury”. After a while “warrior, go Fury” “I left my trainer in my other armor” “… what’s your other spec?” “Prot” “oh”.
Color me befuddled… maybe it’s a server difference of something, but most tanks I know have a second non-tank spec, meaning there is a ton of people around in a non-tank spec whose other spec is tanking. I’m sure there are Arms/Fury warriors and Frost/Unholy DKs around, but I can’t come up with a single one off the top of my head - caster/caster druids yes, I know a few (mine for starters); Paladins can go any way. Still, it seems like a strange assumption to make, that the DPS warrior’s other spec will be the other DPS spec scratches her head in confusion realizes she’s messed up her ponytails combs them again and sticks her helmet firmly on charges a handy orc.
This was in the 40-44 level bracket not 85, my aim was to level by questing and PvP on this toon but at the moment only one of those is any fun.
I have to move guilds on my main which is making me sad, I’ve made a few good friends in my current guild but they’re all playing at different times from me now. Finding a new guild is not going to be easy either, I’ve put something on the realm forums but no interest yet.
Personally I like it but just so you know you can use mounts if you want though unless you bought the Celestial Steed you’ll need to grind reputation to buy them at that level.
You need to be Exalted Argent Champion of the Alliance to buy the tabard - so you need to be a Champion of all the races.
I was going to recommend that Clawdie buy another racial mount but I’d forgotten you need to grind Exalted rep with another faction race first. That’s not so hard if you’re running dungeons with a tabard, but I know Quasi prefers to solo grind. The only other option I can think of is buying the sparkle pony (or the RAF mount).
And I’m back in the game. Rolled a goblin shaman and rolled through Kezan last night. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about such an on-rails experience, but it certainly makes telling a cohesive story easier.
I got a new computer a month ago, so I cranked the settings to Ultra and I still got 45-50 FPS in Orgrimmar.
The game looks gooood.
Had some decent luck with drops last night. I got a second 1H DPS weapon, a DPS trinket, and tanking pants. The pants mean that I can skip my T11 ones for now, which meant that (with the night’s kills) I had enough VP to pick up my tanking ring *and *my DPS ring (since all of the other tank-related VP items would be sidegrades or downgrades from what I already have).
Although I was using the first 1H DPS weapon as part of my tanking set, grabbing a second one meant I’m going Single-Minded Fury instead of TG. I shouldn’t have too much of a problem having the one item cross specs: it’s reforged for Mastery instead of Hit, but that’s not a huge problem (it’s still better than Haste), and I don’t have access to a good tanking weapon enchant yet. So both swords (they’re actually identical) now have Landslide. It feels really weird to be running around without a couple of honking chunks of metal strapped to my back. Haven’t yet seen how it will work in practice.
It’s nice to be excited about gear again–in my tanking set, the only non-epic piece is my neck. I think I’m getting close to full epics on my DPS set, too. Whee!
While our lack of progress on Cho’gall has been frustrating, it’s really nice to see that we’ve got the other 9/12 plus BH on farm. We ripped through all ten of those bosses last night, just in our normally scheduled raid time. And we would have finished even earlier, if we hadn’t had a few stupid and/or literally inexplicable wipes. I think we’re going to be trying Al’Akir again tomorrow, to give us a bit of a Cho’gall break. We were doing pretty well the first time we tried him, and that was weeks ago–our DPS has picked up considerably since then, and our raiding group has also stabilized.
I think it’s the combo package: you get an interrupt (plus a silence if you’re talented into Gag Order), plus a six-second lockout from that school (longer than most, if not all, other short-CD interrupts, including Pummel), plus a Daze. So you wouldn’t use it *just *for the slowing effect.
Well, I’m fucking sorry. ![]()
I love those sounds so much, my friend would always make a point of hitting his PTT when he was flying over it and we were on Vent together. They’re just so ridiculous, and it’s clear that it’s the same two or three people making all of the sounds.
I’m not a big fan of the animation myself–I think it looks like you’re having a seizure. I ride my Worgen around on a sparklepony instead.
If you focus on doing quests that give you rep with a specific faction, you can buy their mounts when you hit Exalted. Stormwind is probably a good bet. If you want to get the maximum amount of rep without running dungeons, you need to make sure and go back to do all of their quests, including the ones in the starting zones.
Dawwww, it’s true.
That’s actually the *opposite *of what we were saying. For using SS to work, you’d have to wait until everyone hit him with the reflect up, so that their dots were running; only then could you safely SS. Otherwise, none of the ranged will have DOTs on them, all of you will get paralyzed, you’ll lose a lot of DPS time, and your tank may die because the healer is frozen. No clue how you made it through the kill with none of your ranged breaking out of Paralyze.
Ignorant people assume that Arms is exclusively a PvP spec. At various points in Wrath and Cata, it’s also been PvE-viable. AFAIK Fury is currently ahead for PvE DPS, but the gap isn’t bad enough that someone who isn’t min/maxing should care.
My educated guess is that it will be progressively less fun every time we do it, like the DK starter zone. And yay for new hardware!
We’re in right about the same boat you are (except that we haven’t tried Al’Akir for weeks and don’t intend to for awhile). Cho’gall is still giving us fits. At least we had some time to work on him last night with a full group, though, which is more than we’ve had in the past due to all sorts of unavoidable absences. I switched up our order so we just worked on BoT last night instead of killing all the farm bosses and saving Cho’gall till the end of the week, and it worked out well.
I think the biggest trouble we’re having right now is handling the mind controls during the phase when the add is up and everybody’s running around. The MCs stay up too long, the CG tank (me) starts taking way too much damage, and down I go even after blowing all my cooldowns to stay alive. I think we’ve got the DPS to do it, but the MCs are killing us.
A bit of bad luck for another guild team worked out as good luck for us last night, though–our guild has 5 10-mans and one of them dissolved last night, so I was able to pick up a very good shaman and quite probably a very good tank (and maybe a healer as well) to supplement my group, which will make us a lot more stable. I’m looking forward to trying CG with some of these new folks.
BTW, on another note, I hate “Running Wild” too. I think it looks like some kind of spastic spider running down the road. Whenever I see a Worgen running toward me I get kind of creeped out. If I ever start one, it’ll be Sparkle Pony all the way.
Oooh, look at the puppy who’s too fancy to get his paws dirty! ![]()
$25.00 for a sparkle? I don’t know, y’all. I can change her into a leopard for travel and avoid the ground scrabble, so I’ll just do that, but I think Blizz ought to take another look at the mount thing - especially since she’s ridden horses before.
Someone might say “a wolf on a horsie???”
A wolf who used to be a humie on a horsie.
Thanks
Q
Travel form is 20% slower than Running Wild (at your level). And she CAN ride actual mounts…you just have to be Exalted with one of the factions on your side to buy one.
Oh, and that $25.00 for the sparklepony buys you a sparklepony for every current and future toon you have or make. No limits.
I do have to admit, though, that I dislike Running Wild. It’s really undignified and I kind of feel like worgen were cheated out of an actual racial mount. I should note that seeing how it works with worgen makes me really glad they pulled Plainsrunning before release…
But what would the worgen ride? I have a mental picture of a wolf curling up for a nap on an Elekk. The drakes wouldn’t like it because their wings would get bitten. I also have a hilarious mental picture of a worgen slung out over the back of a warchicken like a sack of flour.
Specially-bred Gilnean riding mastiffs!
I remember seeing concept art for player-faction worgen long before Cataclysm was released showing them riding giant boars. Which is at least marginally cool, but doesn’t seem to jibe with any existing Gilnean cultural stuff.
Humans ride horses, and Forsaken (undead humans) ride skeletal horses, so worgen (lycanthrop humans) should ride werehorses. I don’t have the details worked out. Maybe they are horses that turn into wolves or something.
Seriously though I don’t mind Running Wild; I think it’s kind of fun. I wish we could do it in human form too, though, running along on all fours :).
Unfortunately, they’re not going to. A lot of people like the concept, if not the animation–especially since you get the first level of training for free, right when you hit level 20. You *do *have the capability to ride other mounts–you just need to be able to buy them, and most ground mounts come from reputation.
Not having a racial mount is one of the reasons they did it, actually. IIRC, there was previously an imbalance in the number of mounts obtainable by Horde and Alliance. Giving Goblins two mounts and Worgen none fixed the problem.
Yup, knew that. I was just pointing out that I’m finished with Darnassus and partway through Stormwind. Of course, since those are also the only two of the cities this nelf is Exalted with, I’m looking at a long grind to Exalted Champion with the other three. Especially Gnomeregan, with whom he’s just barely into Revered. So it actually might turn out to be faster to save up gold for the ring
He slapped on an Ironforge tabard and soloed both sides of Stratholme yesterday. Anyway, he still needs to work on that Argent Crusade rep, too. Maybe I’ll take him on a power run through Eastern Plaguelands - I think many/most of that zone’s new quests award Argent Crusade rep, but don’t quote me on that.
I take it the only purpose for those mailbox keys in Strat is the chance that Postmaster Wossname might spawn when you open the boxes? Cuz the packages in the boxes only contain vendor trash.
I’ve tried to figure out if there’s an emote that will let me make my toons scream like that, but if it exists I haven’t discovered it. I did discover another fun emote the other day though: /mock
Without a target: “You mock life and all it stands for.”
With a target: “You mock <name>'s foolishness.”
I’ve decided it’s better than /laugh when emoting at those knuckleheads who park their drakes completely on top of both the SW cooking daily questgiver and the recipe vendor ![]()
Arms kicks ass in PvE and is a lot of fun. I’ve never tried Fury, though, so I can’t compare the two.
Indeed. I rolled two DKs and have no interest in doing that again. I’ve run one each of a worgen and goblin through their respective starting zones, and though I’ve rolled a second toon of each race, I haven’t been particularly inclined to take either one past the login screen yet.
Worgen should ride orcs ![]()
Wait wait, I missed this. They’re still screaming?
Man, Alexstrasza is one cold bitch.
Honestly, I’m quite sure you could save up the 6-something thousand you need for the ring during the time you would have spend grinding dailies, and still have time left over. Plus, the ring takes you to the central hub of the continent, versus the tabard, which dumps you on the northern coast.
Correct. Except that it’s not a random chance: AFAIK, he always spawns when you open the third one.
I’ve always been a fan of /golfclap, personally. And while there isn’t an emote to make your toon scream, if you just wanted to hear the sound yourself, you could probably find the script command to play the sound file in question.
Fury is definitely higher DPS at the top end of raiding. I’m not sure if Arms beats it out at lower gear levels. Back in Wrath, Fury was pretty tedious (pretty much a two-button rotation). It’s a lot more active now.
Hell, if you tool around Outland, Illidan is still alive.
That they’re *able *to flee screaming in horror is because she and her kin burned the dead and the dying before the New Plague could spread. I’d call that pretty, um, hot. So to speak.
