New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

You have noted the quartermaster for your faction in TB? He has scads of Nice Things for sale. Those require different levels of rep and commendations to obtain; some of those are scandalously good for PVE even though they’re for PVP. I just farmed the hell out of TB to get the Mandala trinket for long fights. Plus, mounts! Pets!

There’s more than 3 quests there too! Top island has… 6, each of which give about 263 rep/1 commendation. Bottom island has a bunch more quests that you can only obtain when your faction holds it.

I wanted to share this shot with y’all.

Wolkie’s in Gundrak (where yesterday I got 4 of those tablets in the dungeon called “For Posterity”, but I just couldn’t make it past that big guy who transforms, and got killed twice), which is a great source of (fiber) frostweave cloths.

What you see him doing is laying out 3 “birds” with one maneuver. That big troll-looking guy is stationary at those stairs, but periodically 2 Gundrak fire eaters come right by there on their patrol, so what I do is position Wolkie directly across from the big guy, wait on the 2 fireaters, and then step between all 3 of them and hit them with bladestorm, taking all three of them out at once.

I love the bladestorm and use it on the glacier for my Converted Heroes “A Valiant’s Training” daily. They too have a lot of frostweave, which is why I fly there even when it isn’t for a daily.

I told y’all that to let you know that every once in a while, I CAN figure things like that out, it just takes a damn long time for the logic to kick in.

Thanks

Oh, I know that! I’m working towards the exalted drake. I’m talking about the PvP battleground itself, not TB the area. I know there’s a victory quest every week that nets you 3 commendations, but I’m wondering if you get anything other than honor points from the PvP part.d

In reference to those huge bird wings whose flapping obscurs our vision: is there any way to generate an on-line petition and when we have, like a couple of thousand signatures, link Blizz to it?

Just today I had something to happen again…

In order to advance my fishing skill, I have taken to fishing off the dock in SW, till the Kraken gets there, and then after she arrives and while waiting for passengers, I’ll cross to the port steps and fish there as long as I can.

Today, some girl with a huge white gryph, flew over and the flapping not only obstructed ME, it also made it to where I couldn’t see the bob in the water. Repeated “please move out of the way, I’m fishing”, did no good.

When we arrived and she and her bird lifted off the boat, I pst her to please not do that again.

She said she was trying to invite me to her guild.

I am blocking guild invites, but she could have done that from anywhere on the boat, right?

Q

Sorry, Quasi. People have been complaining about that since supersize mounts became available and Blizzard apparently has no plans to do anything about it. The only real thing they’ve done in-game is add an item (Baby Spice) you can get with cooking daily rewards in Dalaran, that shrinks whatever you use it on.

Oh. I had heard of Baby Spice, of course, jayjay, but early on in my WoW career, so I never thought to ask what it was. Thanks, buddy!

NOTE TO RIK: Are these instructions for artisan fishing still viable?

http://www.bookofwarcraft.com/guides/fishing/trade-skills/artisan/artisan-fishing-guide.htm

I’m 50 points away from 300 and I know there’s 2 quests I have to complete, so just wanted to be sure those instructions are still good, thanks.

Also, when I look on my professions page, under Fishing, it lists my numbers like this:

250 - 20 - 300. Is that “+/- 20”, like I can start doing the quests at 280?

Thanks

Q

Oh, Boy! When I screw up…

I was in SW’s AH a little while ago, and as I ran to the mailbox, I saw this really hot looking warrior toon, so I stopped to admire her, check out her wares, as it were and then went on my merry way.

I had forgotten I was in my Tailspin persona, my female human warrior.

I wonder what she thought, me a female, ogling her with the name Tailspin?

Maybe she thought I was inspecting her equipment, like you can do when you click on the portrait?

Which I was. In a way.

Q

Anyone have this add-on?

It’s supposed to allow you to control that damn “Say:” box in the chat/combat log area of the screen.

You know the one I mean, right?

The one which makes DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD’s all the way across until you hit escape. The one that if you’re not careful won’t let you loot, and all kinds of other problems yours truly is having because of where it is.

So anyway, Prat is supposed to have the ability to let you move that box to anywhere on the screen.

So if you have it, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

Q

My priestly dorf got to 85 without doing a single Cata quest other than the JC and cooking dailies.

Yesterday she got ToT and ToT:Heroic in the same run, yay me! :stuck_out_tongue:

My favorite DPS pet of late is my Huge Wasp, but I usually offer to switch it for a smaller one if she’s a bother. For some reason it cracks me up to have a pet which looks like it could fly me around in its legs, “rocs in Simbad” style.

Quasi, that problem you’re having is caused by your typing, I don’t see how having the inline anywhere else is going to help. You need to stop hitting Intro before trying to move.

Huh? Well, okay… Huh?

Where’s “Intro”, Nava?

My keys aren’t “bound”, if that is what you mean. Except for the arrow keys and the x for down and space bar for up, I use the mouse on the action bar exclusively.

Someone in the beginning of my WoW career tried to get me to bind my keys, but I couldn’t understand the instructions. I know that is supposed to be quicker, but I think it would just complicate my gaming life.

I do have thick fingers (one of them looks like a little erect penis because the arthritis in it won’t allow it to bend), which is why I don’t bind my keys. All I want to do is move the “say:” bar out of the way so that my mouse action doesn’t involve it (thereby highlighting it waiting for me to write something) and cause me to lose time.

I believe I will repose once again, for my brain is cramping.;)

Thanks!

Q

Intro = enter = return = the key you hit when you’re going to talk.

I think I may have fixed my problem with the “say:” box.

  1. I right clicked on the general tab on the box

  2. Chose settings

  3. Unchecked Say, the first one on the list.

I tried it out and tried to recreate the problem and it didn’t happen.

Nava, I just use the emote section “say” for that.

Sorry I didn’t understand.

Q

Quasi, I think the WoW default chat box can be moved anywhere on the screen you want. If you’re accidentally activating it by clicking on it, you should be able to click on the chat tab and drag it elsewhere. You can also resize it by click-dragging on the bottom right corner of the chat box.

kushiel – I think you do get Hellscream’s Guards rep for a TB battle victory. I had already turned in the “Win TB” quest earlier in the week, but was in a winning battle last night and I thought I saw that I was awarded rep in addition to Honor Points.

On a side note I’m glad to report my shaman is not stuck in Ramparts any more, just bouncing between Slave Pens and Mana Tombs. I had a tank in MT running through like his ass was on fire yesterday, which was a rush. By the way, my other healers have threat reduction spells like bubble/HoSalvatoin or Fade… do shamans have any way to reduce their threat when they are taking too much aggro?

Maybe it’s just class differences showing through, but yes, for most of the fights I’m still mashing chain heal in between healing rain casts. Not all the time, but we didn’t spam one spell all the time in Wrath either. In fact we were one of the classes where it was optimal to not be spamming one or two heals all the time.

Blizzard started out saying that the shaman healing model was what they were aiming for in the Cata revamp, so it makes sense that our spell usage remains more or less the same. That’s in fact one of my complaints for Cata. Every other class has some significant change in the way they heal. Maybe just a case of the grass being greener.

Healing rain of course makes up a large part of our healing now, and optimizing its use is a fun challenge, but it’s just kept more or less on cooldown, and other than that I’m still using the same spell selection criteria as I was before.

But yes, HPM matters more now than it did before. It just happens that for Shamans, our spells with the highest HPM also have the highest HPS, so there really is not that much to choose from.

Wind Shear looks like it’s your only threat-reducing spell. It’s not a panic button that dumps threat, though, it needs multiple applications to be useful. Since it’s also a spell interrupt, this is not a bad thing.

As a holy priest anything to give me a chance to catch up to our bubbleboy’s HPS (disc priest) by increasing my throughput is taken by me. I’m not really constrained my mana since we usually run with two resto shaman for everything other than Cho’gall and Sinestra, and for Sinestra you get an absurd mana regen buff in the third phase.

Thinking back to earlier in our progression, I can’t say that mana was ever really a top concern for me either. There are just too many ways to get it back for my spell choice to be based on HPM rather than HPS.

Thanks, I’ve used Wind Shear as an interrupt but I didn’t realize it reduces threat - I’ll have to look at the description again. As an engineer I’ve been tempted to throw down a Target Dummy when I take aggro, but I figured that would just make the tank’s job harder.

Well, there’s the fact that you get access to extra dailies only if your faction wins the PvP battle every 2 1/2 hours; if you can meaningfully contribute (i.e., you’re skilled and geared well enough to help your side win), the win will open up more opportunities for badges per day. And, as I’m sure you know, that exalted drake is exorbitantly expensive; as many dailies as you can pull off is a good thing.

OTOH, since you admitted to being a care bear, I suspect (using my own experience as a guide) that there are other players who can occupy your slot in the PvP raid to better effect. (Certainly, when I get into the PvP event, my main role is scouting and dying, not necessarily in that order.)

No, you actually don’t have to do that quest any more. They just left it in for people who still want to do it anyway. And it’s worth doing - it rewards a nice fishing pole that I forgot about when I was talking about fishing poles the other day. In fact, I just did the Horde version of the quest on my undead warrior last night.

It took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about here! The first number is your actual Fishing skill, the second number (it shows up in green, right?) is the bonus you’re getting from your new fishing pole and any other bonuses from lures or your fishing hat (did you say you had one of those?); the third number is your “new” fishing score after the bonuses have been added.

… and I discovered they didn’t change anything about the quest for Cataclysm, which made getting the one fish in Swamp of Sorrows very challenging because that zone’s level has changed. It used to be a level 30-40 zone IIRC; now it’s a level 50+ zone. My level 41 warrior died four times just trying to get to the beach to fish!
