New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

The worst looking Heirloom shoulders in the game imo, my female belf hunter looks ridiculous with them on. They did sit better on my (now deleted) Tauren Shaman though.

Shadow Priest-ing is a great way to see the new content because you never die. Ok I have the heirlooms but I can pull as many mobs as I can see, DoT them up then cast psychic scream, renew then pick them off . A lot of fun, currently in Wetlands man that place has had a makeover.

My rogue is now 61 and annoyed that the queues for dungeons are way too long, I’d even take a group of 3 DKs at the moment to see the inside of an instance. PvP is also harder now DKs are in the mix but a good challenge to get them alone and hit them hard enough up front to win the battle.

You should be thanking me and extolling my (many) virtues for pushing Mass Effect on you. I’m sure your tune will change when you get to the end of ME2. Or, you’ll just have more vitriol for getting you into the game months ahead of ME3’s release.

Anyway, on topic, after 9 hours of Heroic Ascendant Council attempts, people are still wiping us on normal mode mechanics (hello, Lightning Rod!). Very frustrating, and an incredibly boring fight to heal, I must say. I hope people pull their heads out of their asses this week so we can start pulling Sinestra.

I will admit, though, that it is enlightening to watch people who have to kite the Frozen Orb. It’s a pretty good way to judge the goods from the bads (kind of like Gorefiend in Black Temple), though pretty frustrating when that guy gets the Frost Beacon. I suppose I should stop complaining and help recruitment efforts if I want to actually do something about it, but it’s much more fun (and less work) to sit back and mock them in private channels than to do the officer-y stuff I really don’t want to do anymore. Not sure what the point of this is, other than I wish there were an easier way to pick out people your raid is carrying and to replace them with competent players.

I don’t know why this is, but when my resto shaman hit 58 and started queueing for BC dungeons I would usually get a group instantly, or within 3-4 minutes at the most. I never had time to do any questing at all; never even finished all the Thrallmar quests before hitting 68 because the RDF wait times were so short.

But since hitting 68 and moving to Northrend, suddenly the RDF queues are 15 minutes or more, even for a healer. I don’t know why the sudden huge jump. Also (grumble grumble) I’ve been doing the RDF from 68 to now 71 and still have not seen anything but Utgarde Keep. Is a single Nexus run too much to ask for?

**I’ll paint my face with your blood! **

It’s currently on my overplayed list along with:

Troggs! Why’d it have to be troggs?!

Queues for 85 dungeons as DPS are over 30 minutes.

LOL! I’ve just received my first phishing e-mails attempting to steal my RIFT account!

No, I don’t have a RIFT account - they neglected to release a Mac version.

Thanks for the advice, SFG! I fixed his reforging and spec, and slapped some cheap chants on, check – I think you might have been looking at an earlier cache since I had 2-3 rep pieces tho. In any event I’m set to get the Hyjal rep tanking pants and the turtle wrap when the servers come back up, and will be working on… I guess Therazane next. And then I’ll have the tanking JP head as my next purchase. <3 Grinding rep is slower since I don’t run that many dungeons on him, so it’ll be a bit.

(Although I gotta say, handling 2 gearsets is expensive. :expressionless: )

Also: When the enhance shaman and aff warlock are taking turns tanking Lady Nazjar from 40% to 0 while the tank has a rest on the floor in H ToT, I have the feeling that the tank could maybe use a little more practice not backing up out of bad. I generally don’t use Leap of Faith other than on Anhuur, but I will be prepared next time for tanks who don’t move out of blue circles. If I’m lucky I can slap a shield and Holy Word on them before they hit the floor, but it generally turns messy.

Has anyone else seen Erunak glitch out and reset, though? He did it for us. Twice. We were standing around going WTF, when poof he appears out of nowhere and starts nomming our warlock.

Oh, yeah? I hope s/he’s horde and able to join our guild!

I think we are getting closer to 10mans!

But of course! I just haven’t sat down with the new character long enough to nag someone for an invite.

New question on UGs. I have 2500 VPs and need to spend them on my Mage.
I can either buy one chest or legs (chest is bigger UG), or I can buy 1 ring and 1 cloak (both are 346).

The stat difference against each other is as follows:
Chest: +16 crit, +56 haste
vs
Cloak+Ring: +5 INT, +10 STA +80 hit

(If that’s confusing; New Chest is +39INT, new Ring/Cloak is +44INT, so total is +5INT for the cloak/ring)

I don’t think hit matters. Either I’m hitcapped or not, and I’ll have to gem/reforge. The other bonus to the Chest is that it’s part of a set, and with the potential of a setbonus from raiddrops, does that push it over the edge?
Other thoughts:
I can spend the big purchase now, and gaining VPs the next few weeks, it’ll be easier to get the cheaper items.
Are 2 items better than 1? Other than the stats, I don’t see how.

Remember, whatever I buy is the type of item that will definitely drop in my next raid. just sayin’
Thanks in advance.

The way I generally look at things is what I want my final set to look like at the end of a tier, and what upgrades will get me to that.

So the question would be, for your spec are the tier bonuses part of your “best in slot” gearset? Are there better rings and cloaks, or are those BiS as well? Then consider drops from bosses you are likely to be killing soon, and go from there.

If the 2-piece tier bonus is good I would aim at getting that first (so, hands + chest, for example). For me that was a much bigger upgrade than any single gear piece (something like 1-2% DPS IIRC). Remember, however, that you won’t be getting tier from a raid drop (outside of the slot machine that is BH) until the end bosses (Cho’gall and Nefarian).

One other thing to consider in your stat weighting - hit matters at the same weighting of whatever you would reforge out to get capped (never gem for hit unless you have no other option, AFAIK).

So if your weakest stat is haste (for example), then 80 hit while you’re undercapped is worth 80 haste because that is what you would reforge off to get capped. It works the other way too - any hit that would take you over the cap isn’t worthless, since you can reforge it to your best secondary stat.

It gets much harder to make individual decisions like the one you mentioned, so I’d go back to identifying your “best set” and you “best set I’m likely to get in the next few weeks” and grab pieces that are part of that.

I hate Al’Akir and his chain lightning, and his ice patches… and pretty much everything. Him and Nefarian can go take a vacation on the dark side of the Moon.

On the plus side I have one more day of Tol Barad dailies before I can get the awesome trinket for my DK tank, then I can have two AMS’s! Then it’s over to the druid since I have to have the trinket for all my tanks or I’ll feel naked.

Still on the fence about leveling my paladin, did a couple dungeons as a tank then a few as a healer. Tanking was even more faceroll than I thought, healing was a little more tricky since I forgot all about beacon for the first few pulls. It’s a nice change of pace though, maybe something to mess around with when I’m bored.

Really? Maybe it’s time to level my Pally up.

Well after 2 days of raiding: I’ve help down 3 bosses in BoT and 4 bosses in BWD (all 10N). I’ve won 4 rolls for epic lootz (one PvP from BH), got enough VPs for 1 more. All of that preceded by my friends at the BDL crafting me some gear as well. I feel like a whole new undead man. That’s 5 new pieces on my Main Gearset!

I’m still getting used to the fights. Some of them I’m watching from the ground. For others, I’m part of the last man standing crew. It’ll probably be a few more times hearing the instructions before I know it much better. Luckily this group knows what they’re doing and as long as I’m pumping out the deeps and following commands, there are no problems. I hope. It’s funny that they haven’t had a mage for a while, so I’m a bit of a novelty for them. Free food, extra interrupt, spellsteal. Fun!

Woo, Nefarian down! Finally! It was so frustrating to have nearly a month of no progression due to the fact that half my raid team was composed of flakes who didn’t bother to let me know when they weren’t going to show up. Ditching the flakes and picking up some solid raiders in their place has made all the difference. I’m so happy that dragon is finally dead. Frustrated that it took us this long, but considering that we only started working on him about two weeks ago, I’m pretty pleased with our kill.

So that’s 7 Tol Barad battles this week and 0 victories for me, I picked up the ‘Victory in Tol barad’ quest about 3 months ago still not been able to hand it in. People are dumb for getting lured away from the flags and\or fighting away from the flags, extra moron credits for battling siege engines.

In good news I hit 100,000 gold across all toons last night. No idea what to do with it all.

I’ve had bad luck with TB this week too, with no wins yet. But at least I got into a BH group last night - most weeks I can’t find one. Two plate pieces dropped too, a tier item and a PvP item, but naturally we had 2 DKs, a warrior and two other pallies and both items were offspec for me.

Pay some 2500-rated PvPers to go to TB with you, duh.

You know that would have been a nicer post if it ended with ’ maybe?’ instead of ‘, duh.’.

I’m not sure it would work. I doubt that many would be interested and you have the added random nature of TB to take into account, you aren’t always guaranteed a spot.

I think Palooka was trying to be funny, not insulting. You could always give some gold to me, I have to pay for another Epic Flying skill in a few levels.

Also, it’s really hard being a 30 hunter in Gnomer with a 26 warrior tank. I don’t have any aggro managment tools except “do less damage”. I basically had to lay off the Kill Command and ration my Arcane Shots if I didn’t want to be attacked, and Multi Shot was out of the question.
