New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Well that’s silly. If you check the pages for the tabards themselves, hopefully someone there has given a list. Otherwise Wowpedia may have a page on rep tabards that gives the details.

It really annoys me to no end that I can’t just look this shit up for myself. Ugh.

Daedalus!

We are now bitter enemies!

Killing my alt in 500 resilience… Grrrr!

Hitting me for 28,000 through pain suppression… What the heck is up with that?! :frowning:

Bwahahahahaaaaaaaa. That’s excellent.

ETA: Daed, I assume Darthth is a Darth alt, but is Rhexis someone I know?

No the new character does not show and the search World of Warcraft only returns the deleted character.

No wow for me over the last couple of days as I have installed RIFT. Pretty but very similar to wow so far and not sure I’ll take the subscription on after the 30 day trial period.

LOL!

Sorry, man! I have nothing to do with our DPS. That’s all our OP Ret paladin (I think this is some proof of how powerful Ret paladins can be in PvP to touch on the conversation going on above). Also, I’m terrible at PvP, so I’m sure next time we meet you’ll be doing a Homer Simpson dance on my grave.

The timing on this is terrible. I was totally going to e-stalk you and badger you with questions about Sinestra, since we’ll be pulling her next week (unless for some reason AC actually gives us trouble). Hopefully, I can find some olive branch to extend before next reset.

Yeah, Rhexis was GM of <The Backseat> under a different name.

Wow, SFG. I’m starting to know exactly the pain you were going through a month or so ago on Cho’gall. I really feel like we have the Tanks/Heals/Interrupts to get it done, but we are just not getting the bloods down down fast enough (and we’re just barely on pace to to make it to phase 2 after 5 adds (though we haven’t actually made it phase 2 yet).

Oh well… the good news is we actually got a nice smooth kill of Council last night (all 10 peeps alive at the end). Apparantly, nature resist totem/aura during phase 3 is the cat’s meow.

Nefarian is dead!

Took a bit longer than we hoped (three or four full nights I think), but we got it figured out. It’s an interesting fight, but puts a ton of pressure in your kiter in P1, your healers and interrupters (and spacebar) in P2, and your add tank in P3. I like that the execution level is pretty high, but it can make for stress when wipes are so clearly attributable to one person, even though it’s not really their fault.

Actually on the kill we lost the Nef tank on the first Electrocute (somehow… don’t ask me…) but a quick bubble on the top-threat DPS (thankfully a Pally) and a B-Rez and we were back in the game and got it down.

So I got my Defender title last night, and once we knock over Al’Akir the rest of the raid will get it.

Also had a very fun Twin Peaks BG. At the end of the fight the Alliance had 7 of the top 10 damage dealers and 3 of the top 4 healers, and yet we prevailed with a last-minute cap to win 2-1. Always fun to be pretty outmatched gear-wise and still win with better strategy and tactics (twice we burned down the enemy flag carrier while we had both of his healers CC’ed - it was way beyond what I’m used to in a BG PuG).

Also I hate tail swipe, all of phase 2, and crackle. Hopefully I won’t see those things again for a long, long time.

I don’t exactly know how either… but I can guess. Rekah was probably innervating Cola so she was out of range while I was busy healing the raid up before the crackle, and then Ty got smacked really hard by Nef and then crackle and dead. But it was a pretty epic recovery.

Not sure how I feel about Al’Akir, I’ll have to rewatch the video. I’ve forgotten how it goes other than “OMG TORNADOES!”. Then again it’s been so long since we’ve been in BoT I think I’ve forgotten those fights as well. I just plop down healing rain and yell at you all for not standing in it, right?

That’s pretty much what happened - the Electrocute hit during a breath and he took a lot of damage in <1 second. But, not to put too fine a point on it (I don’t think he reads these forums…) it was the very first crackle and he didn’t use a single DK tanking CD… any one of VB, IBF, or especially AMS would have saved him. He also didn’t have Blood Shield up (his last Death Strike was 10 seconds prior).

It’s the same problem we had throughout the attempts, to be honest - on 9 attempts he used VB 7 times and IBF 3 times (a few were early wipes, but come on… it was even worse on Tuesday). There’s a reason you heard me shouting out his CDs as often as I could… :frowning:

Nothing to be done about it, really… but it was quite frustrating for someone who has done quite a bit of raid DK tanking. He’s really a DPS at heart (you can tell because he keeps using GCDs on Horn of Winter even though there’s a DPS DK in the raid providing the buff). And he’s quite young, so trying to help doesn’t always work, as you might have noticed…

That’s an amusingly roundabout way of putting it. Is it not common knowledge who he was before the namechange?

1.) Do you have some kind of slow on the bloods?
2.) Are all ranged DPS switching to the bloods every time, and are melee joining in if needed on the 3rd+ spawns?
3.) How many tanks/healers are you using? Part of our problem was from running with three healers; dropping to 2/2 tanks/heals helped us a lot–you just need to be really on the ball about breaking them out of Worship ASAP.

Congrats! And an especially big thumbs-up for quick thinking that saved what could have been a wipe.

Al’Akir is a clusterfuck of retarded RNG. That’s pretty much all you need to know. :smack:

Should be good on the slows with hunter trap & shammy totem (plus boomkin & ele shammy knockback). but we were not sending the melee to help on the 3rd and up. I’ll mention that to the raid leader. We’re running 2 tanks/3 healers. Maybe we’ll have to give it a go with 2 heals to see if its doable for us. Otherwise, with current dps numbers we just aren’t gonna make it to phase 2 in time.

Congrats to you guys that got Nef down!!

Thanks for the tips! That spreadsheet might be a bit beyond me until I’m comfortable with getting hit in the face though. He’s Isandare on Wyrmrest Accord – I logged him out in his prot spec/gear (which is definitely not as good as his dps set). His prot spec is a little wonky so any additional pointers you can give would be super. At the moment, I’m reforging for survivability in heroics (which I haven’t touched yet) while grinding rep for gear/arcanums. Not much in the way of gems or chants until my gear settles.

This. I do this with friends on my priest, and I can keep them healed while dotting things and bringing them back so my friends don’t have to move much. It’s fun.

I’m quite sure that’s causing the majority of your problems. Have one of your healers switch to their DPS spec. If two healers can’t keep up with the damage, it means that people are standing in shit they shouldn’t be standing in.

Really, it looks way more intimidating than it is. Pretty much all you’re doing is plugging in numbers from your in-game character sheet, and then looking at the output to see how much threat and damage any given move can be expected to do.

Sending myself a note to check him out. I’m only dropping home for like five minutes after work and then going out for a friend’s birthday, so I’ll probably get to it some time tomorrow!

So, my human rogue on Wyrmrest Accord, Thelois Tulaine, is in a guild called <The Johnson Estate>. When she joined the guild, she was informed that the premise of this RP guild was that we were going to retake and resettle that town (the name of which I cannot recall off the top of my head) in the DK starting area. She’s finally leveled high enough to actually run around Eastern Plaguelands without getting killed every 10 yards, so I started heading her in that direction to quest there. The guild leader was on, and asked if anybody wanted to roleplay, so I said I was game, and asked if the aforementioned guild premise was still in effect. No, I was told, the original GL had left and now we were doing somethin’ somethin’ in Gilneas. So I agreed to meet the GL in Gilneas for some roleplay.

Of course, having managed to level from 1-40 by questing Elwynn > Westfall > Redridge > Duskwood > Stranglethorn, and having never traveled farther north than Ironforge, I had to get there the long way, entirely by ground: IF > Loch Modan > Wetlands > Hinterlands > WPL > EPL (I wanted the first EPL flight point) > back through WPL > Tirisfal > Silverpine > Gilneas. But at last I got there. Whereupon we RP’d for all of five minutes and then the GL got DC’d and never came back, due, I imagine, to yesterday’s login server wonkiness

Anyway, I figured if our focus was now on Gilneas I might as well roll up a worgen on that server, so I present Jhomley, my new worgen warlock. I didn’t know if it was safe to log out and switch servers (due to the aforementioned wonkiness), so I ended up doing the entire starting zone in one sitting just to get it out of the way. There was one glitch that had me worried; there were three of us doing the fight against Sylvanas at the same time (not grouped, we just happened to be there at the same time), and something got hung up. Prince Liam got killed and Sylvanas ran off, and the yellow “?” appeared on the building there where we were supposed to talk to Crowley’s daughter to complete the quest. But she wasn’t there. Then Genn and Liam disappeared and Sylvanas and her entourage rematerialized and we players were all, “Uh-oh!” Fortunately, the hostile NPCs didn’t attack us (I assume they were strictly tied to the scripted event). I’m not sure if somebody contacted a GM, but Sylvanas and her goons finally disappeared again, and the friendly NPCs finally materialized in the building, and we were able to continue on. (Was this the same thing that happened to Quasi?)

I’m finding I really enjoy playing warlocks now, in addition to rogues. Both were classes I didn’t like, for one reason or another, before Cata, but they’re more enjoyable to me now. I have another warlock, an orc, over on Cenarion Circle who I’ve gotten to level 51 so far. It’s nice to finally have a couple more classes I can honestly enjoy. I was getting a little tired of always playing paladins, mages, warriors, and hunters. I’m still, however, not finding anything interesting or fun about druids, beyond “Squeeee! I’m a kitty cat!” :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay! Comments for his Prot spec and gear…

1.) Don’t reforge Parry to Mastery. It’s our next-best stat. You should reforge Hit, Expertise, or Dodge instead (in that order). Because of Hold the Line, Warriors will generally have way more Parry than Dodge, versus other tanks who strive for a balance to minimize DR (diminishing returns). The only time I’d worry about reforging Parry instead of Dodge is if you pass the mark of having twice as much Parry as you do Dodge.

2.) You should probably slap at least some cheap enchants on your 333+ blues.

3.) I see only one piece of rep gear. There are some pretty awesome Epics and even Rares that would be upgrades from what you have now. Here’s a spreadsheet I made when I was leveling that shows exactly what rep items a Warrior can use–they’re listed by required reputation, slot, level they can be equipped at, and what role they’re useful for. You’ll have to look them up on Wowhead to see their actual stats, but I included the item names, so that should be easy.

4.) As for spec and glyphs, this is what I’d recommend for someone running five-mans. If you use Demo Shout a lot (which you should, if you find yourself being on the squishy side), swap that glyph in for one of your other minors. If you also want to do some raiding, pull two points out of Deep Wounds and put them into Concussion Blow and Vigilance, and then Vig your co-tank.

According to a blue post on the boards, the Call to Arms reward (the satchel) will, in fact, be BoA. So you can send it to another toon before opening it.

Starting to get bored again. Up to ilevel 350, so the only upgrades I can get, are basically from Valor points. At 70 a day they take forever to accumulate. Added to which I can’t win a need roll on a chaos orb to save my life!

If my circumstances were different I would take up raiding, but I cannot commit to the usual raiding hours on my server due to that being family time.

May be time to look into that PS3…
When is the patch with the extra content due?

MMO Champion says end of the month at the earliest is their best guess.

If you’re getting bored of heroics (which… yeah, I’m with ya) then you can look at other options, or just take a break. Have you tried PuGging any raids? Or maybe queuing for random BGs to get a taste of PvP? Have you got all the 5-man heroic achievements for your nifty drake?

There’s also all the old content to explore if you blasted by it during leveling (I ran all the old 5-man heroics on my hunter with a Pally friend and had a great time seeing all the neat zones I missed).

The nice thing is, you don’t need your gear to be any better than that if you’re not raiding. 350 is more than enough for quests, Heroic dungeons, etc. If you’re getting bored on your main, this could be a good time to level an alt! Or get a PS3. Personally, I’ve been distracted from my normal WoW-ing since Saturday because **Daed **is an evil, evil man who sucked me into the *Mass Effect *series.

Oh holy hell the Prized Beastmaster’s Mantle is hideous looking. I don’t know how I’m going to level all the way with this. But I needed to spend my Tol Barad PvP points on something, and it seems more useful than another mount!

Moved my main to Cairne over the weekend - wasn’t anything holding me on Ysera. Cairne’s a chatty bunch!
