what you guys charging for chaos orbs?
I can’t give the damn things away, sadly. This is because I’m an engineer, and of the three things I can make with my (currently 17) of them, 1 is BoP (Goggles), and the other two are ranged weapons which, not being ‘purple’, just really aren’t in demand.
Sad engineering panda.
Unfortunately, it’s only temporary. It comes from a 30-minute debuff you get after you kill him.
First off, nitpick: No, the reforging NPC in SW was also solid.
Now, the meat of the matter:
You keep saying that you understand, but then you say something like this, which strongly suggests to me that you don’t. First off, HTML isn’t programming–it’s markup. Actual programming is much more complex. I may be wrong here, but the impression I’m getting that you really don’t accurately comprehend what the back end of a game like WoW looks like, how two things that look similar or identical from your perspective as a player can in fact be implemented in completely different ways in the code for the game.
A really good example of this is “the Exalted” versus “Loremaster.” When Cata came out, people who already had “Loremaster” were grandfathered in, though the requirements were upgraded to include the new zones and the new versions of the old zones for anyone who hadn’t yet completed the meta. For the title “the Exalted,” however, not only were the requirements upgraded, but everyone who previously had earned the title lost it. There was a massive outcry, and it was eventually restored. During the discussion of the change, it was revealed that while on the surface these two titles/achievements appeared to be very similar, the way they’d been executed in the game’s code was *very *distinct, which is why they were able to grandfather one title but not the other.
This isn’t a case of a restaurant patron seeing someone else make a change to their order and requesting the same thing. This is the guy who comes in, sees someone else make a substitution with an item that’s also on the menu, and demanding that you make him something you don’t have any of the ingredients for–and then complaining to the manager when he’s told it isn’t possble.
30 minutes or until death (whichever comes first), and it is on the drop-down list for that period of time. Does it only show up the first time, though? That would make me very sad.
I was hoping to get it every week.
You do get it every time you kill him as long as you are alive at the time.
Phew!
Oh, nice! I didn’t realize that. Somebody told me it was a one-time thing.
Nitpick nitpick: the reforging NPC isn’t a pre-Cata special NPC. He’s still there. I was talking about the questgivers for the prelaunch events.
I know, that’s why I put “programming” in quotes. I was thinking “The closest I’ve come to programming…”, and I probably should have written it like that (though what BASIC I’ve fooled with was, indeed, programming). I was making a comparison, not an equivalency. Trying to track down a missing > in a complex HTML page is pretty similar to tracking down a missing } in C.
And that’s all I’m really saying: How it looks. I don’t claim to know exactly how it all works on a technical level, I just know what I see. To me (and probably many others who complain about this kind of thing), it seems logical that two virtually identical objects (and I’m talking strictly about objects, not achievements/titles/abilities/etc.) should behave virtually identically, and when they don’t, we go ![]()
![]()
, especially when there’s no apparent reason for it (see my tombstone example).
Note: My restaurant scenario was specifically addressing asking for exactly the same thing that has already been done, not asking for something similar. You changed it by applying it to your achievements example.
Oh yeah, and I got my fourth toon to level 85 yesterday (Keliraeda, my belf paladin in BDL). I’ve been having fun playing my two lower-level Protection paladins, and having gotten used to it at those lower levels I went ahead and dual-specced Keli and have been playing her as prot as well. I know I could have done that with her (or my human Ret pally) long ago, and I’ve tried, but I’ve always run into what I call the “DK problem”. That is, trying to learn to use too many new abilities all at once. So with my lower-level paladins starting out as Prot right out of the gate, I was able to grow accustomed to each new ability as they learned them, and once I’d done that it was no trouble switching one of my high-level Ret pallies to Prot.
Prot is way too much fun. I’m generally a noob, and I love the hell out of it. I am constantly agog at how overpowered it is. (I always bitch that plate wearers should not be able to heal, much the less heal themselves, so I’m biased) But I still love playing it
Woo! Logged in to start playing again and did some archaeology. Canopic jar came up and what did I get but the Vial of Sands recipe!
Now to earn the gold needed to craft it.
Truth. I’ve got a level 61 mage that I let sit on the back burner for too many expansions/patches. I’ve tried picking him up again, but the skills and talents are SO different then what they were when I was playing him regularly…it’s just overwhelming.
I strongly suspect at this point that if I get the hankering to play a mage again, I’ll just delete this one and start a new toon.
Does that really make sense? You could just introduce yourself to the new abilities as you get comfortable with them. That achieves the same thing as introducing them as you level, but you’re not restricted by the level up rate (or acquisition order). Like, people learn games 10x more complicated than World of Warcraft in a piecemeal fashion, despite everything being available right away. The traditional advice for a new Starcraft player is to do nothing but spend their first few games ensuring that they never fail to have a worker building. Once that’s automatic, they learn an optimized build order or how to scout or micro. The same method should work in WoW just as well. For this dungeon run, I’m going to ensure that Living Bomb is always up. Repeat until you’ve achieved it. For this dungeon run, I’m going to build on what I know, by never missing a hot streak proc. Repeat until you’ve achieved it. Roll with four buttons on your tool bar if you need to.
Disciplined learning of the mechanics is going to make your mage play much better faster than re-rolling a mage.
After doing all the Ulduar hardmodes on saturday a couple guildies and I decided to work on the Glory of the Cataclysm Hero achieve. So as of now i’m 3 short:
Headed South (Lost City)
Acrocalypse Now (Lost City)
The speed one at the end of Deadmines (for engaging Vanessa before 5 mins)
I think the second 2 will be easy enough with a little work. ‘Headed South’ however is maddeningly difficult. We actually put some attempts on this one and it was rediculously hard.
I hate you so much.
ETA: Sorry, I misspelled “Congrats!”
Headed South is a pain in the ass, I got it before I quit playing back in February so I may be misremembering how we accomplished it. At the time we were 11 of 12 on normal cata raids so we were well geared. We just played around with the adds killing the ones who left the ground damage after death to the outer ring. Marked the others in spawn order killed the last one which dropped his shield and then after the tossing I used ancient hysteria and the tank called out to switch targets so we took the adds down apart but ensuring we had the correct amount of stacks before downing him. This took a few times, remember to stack or you may be left out of the ach!
And speaking of being gone I am interested in coming back even transferring to another realm if anyone knows a relaxed guild that still raids. I have an 85 orc hunter 11 of 12 in normal mode (was working on Nefarian when half our 10 man went to the “other” game.) I would be dedicated to raiding as I am able and willing to use any of the three specs, and rebuilt based on battle. I spent a lot of gold on respeccing
I have mining and skinning though dropping mining, used it for some easy cata gold. I have all the leather saved for a quickie 525 leatherworker.
I am currently still co-gm of a 600 member guild but going to resign and move on due to complete lack of interest in anything but dickwaving in the guild. I keep in touch through ventrilo and must admit I have found it hard not to come back lol Any suggestions on realms?
*I also have an 85 healing/tanking pally, but he has been cobwebbed since he hit 85.
Anybody know if the patch is going live tomorrow?
This is the way to do it. Also, if you have decent dps and can bring 2 healers it really trivializes the damage. If you don’t have 2 healers it might be easier to do the achievement for only a few people at a time. You’ll have to come back again for the people that missed it but makes the damage more manageable.
Grats!
This is my problem with me getting the courage to 2nd spec my ret pally to prot. I now have 346 gear (except for my relic), but I just don’t have the drive to gear up, set up my talent tree, set up my bars, and do the deed without any other previous experience in the role of a tank. I’m working up the courage though.
If I remember right the 346 pally/DK relic is dual-purpose (tank/dps).
