New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

The “Captain Harris” quest finally popped up for me in Tol Barad last night; so I was able to get the “Just Another Day in Tol Barad” achievement.

Now I have to decide if I want to keep grinding rep with the Horde faction - Hellscream’s Reach? - there. I’m getting a little tired of doing their dailies.

If you don’t have the trinket yet, it’s probably worth it. My intention had been to get the trink and the drake; but after getting the trinket I decided I didn’t want to go back for a long long time.
Changing the subject - I dinged 84 on my shammy last night! Just a wee bit more to go and he’ll be my third toon at 85. Shammy healing is so much fun.

Also, someone paid my hunter (who is guildless and my only Alliance toon on Cairne) 50 gold to sign their guild charter last night. Woot! That doubled my net worth. And then I sold a blue BoE drop on the AH for another 48g, so it was a pretty productive 10 minutes.

slides hands together slyly Are you in need of an active Alliance guild on Cairne? I know one that would be pleased to see someone who can RTFM.

Meanwhile, things are going pretty smoothly for me. Grabbed my Guardian of Cenarius title last week, and I’m grinding Draenei rep since they have just enough mounts for me to acquire my Albino Drake.

From there, I’ll probably go back to Tol Barad dailies and Archaeology. Arch is an awesome profession for those pesky queue time waits.

So, has anyone else ran into this? 25-man ICC guild run, most of us are 85s in various stages of gear, but we’re still putting out twice the DPS needed to defeat the LK. I think we’ve tried it…about 4 nights? Seriously, it’s insane. We can’t beat the damn LK. So the RL watched the tables the last time and the LK is doing insane things. I don’t know how much damage he’s supposed to be able to do, but he was damn near one-shotting us on attacks that shouldn’t do that and healing himself for massive amounts. The people who have run ICC before say it shouldn’t be possible for him to do the damage and healing he’s doing. Anyway, the RL put in a ticket but I don’t know how that went.

Any chance you have some logs to look at? LK should not be doing any healing, unless you’re running into some sort of evade bug. Are you doing it on heroic where someone hitting a shadow trap might have caused him to evade?

I’ve not done the fight since Cata was released but from what I’ve heard damage is scaled up somewhat so it is not that easy to heal with low gear levels at 85 given the mana efficiency problems. I don’t think anything is capable of 1-shotting a level 85 though, unless you’re having problems with necrotic plague. Letting a big stack go off will still kill someone, and giving the LK too many stacks of the buff from dispelling it might kill the tank.

I wondered whether this trinket from Hellscream’s Reach faction Impatience of Youth would be worth picking up; although it’s another one of those “have to use to gain benefits” trinkets, and as we covered a couple of pages ago, I’m never very good at remembering to activate trinkets.

I picked up the Blade of the Fearless 2H sword at one point, but it turned out that it reduced my DPS from the heroic-level Whitefin Axe that I’m currently carrying (when in Retribution Spec), so I returned the sword for a refund.

ATM I’m thinking about just grinding until I get enough for the Drake. I’ve got about 110 tokens right now, so it’ll take a while.

Of course, when I popped into Tol Barad yesterday to do the dailies, the Captain Harris quest popped up again. Go figure

What kind of guild is it? This is just me and my IRL life friend (with his mage) and we only play these toons a couple hours on Wednesday nights. We’re about level 42-43 now. So we’re pretty casual and won’t be hitting high level content for a long, long time. But if you’re open to some casual levelers who aren’t around much, it would be nice to be in guild just for the xp bonuses and guild chat.

Woohoo! Heroic Maloriak down (one shot last night, after the previous night of wipefest), and heroic Atramedes down (after very few overall attempts–we’d been focusing on Magmaw and Maloriak) on the same night! That puts our little raid team at 5/13 heroic. I’m feeling so much better, since I was the cause of most of the wipes the night before due to messing up interrupts. A Power Aura to make a noise when Arcane Storm went off (and not Release Aberrations) fixed that right up, and the addition of our monster-AoE warlock to the group (he’d been out with computer problems the night before) put the lid on it.

Valiona and Theralion next, I think. Woot!

I think casuals are cool if you log in every week or two. It’s just a large casual guild - like 600 members, but there’s probably 40 core players. They’ve already reached level 25. There’s always a couple people levelling if you wanted to grab someone from a dungeon run too.

I’d stick with the +STR trinkets (on equip) with the +mastery (on use) rather than the other way around. I would stick with the heroic Mark of Khardros instead of using the Impatience of Youth trink. I think it would now be worth it to get the Darkmoon: Hurricane (with +STR) since strength just plain flat out beats mastery.

Then make a macro and connect the use of your trinket to your CS button so you’ll be using the mastery on a regular basis. The +STR on equip will always be a better way to have improved and consistent dps and let the mastery be the inconsistent improvement that you don’t totally have to rely on swing after swing.

Hee hee hee! I did a double take in Uldum today! I saw Cornballer in Ramkahen while I was on my Alliance toon. I was the nelf on the albino drake pointing at you and then pointing at my Core Hound Pup.

I’ve been rotating playing my three main toons in the RDF but I’ve been wondering what to do with my priest while he is in queue; since switching to DPS his queue times are a lot longer. I didn’t really want to quest (though I should for the rep and money) so I decided to work on Netherwing rep while I wait. Only about 1/3 way through Honored so far so I’ve got a long way to go. Any advice? I think I noticed that the first egg I turn in each day gives more rep than subsequent ones, so should I always hold one back to make sure I have one to turn in the next day? Other than collecting eggs and doing the dailies, it doesn’t look like there’s any other way to grind rep. Are there any addons or anything that display egg spawn points?

I don’t know if there are any addons that scan for eggs, but I do know that if you learn where all the egg spawns are, it’s relatively easy to gather a whole bunch (like coming up with a route to farm ore/herbs). I wouldn’t save them for a once-a-day-thing, though – it may just be the initial quest that gives the extra rep (in fact I’m pretty sure it is). Now that nobody’s camping the eggs, I’d say that’s the way to go.

Turn in as many of those suckers as you can all the time. A good day can net you 8 of them, GO GO GO. Seriously, it’s a mind-numbing grind for Netherwing rep. By the time you’re done, you never want to look at a Netherwing mount again.

But on the upside, BOOTERANG. Usually I feel bad for the orc peons, but not these lazy bums!

How casual is the Horde guild on Cairne? I’m very casual, but, once I get higher, it’d be nice to have the option of participating in instances. And nice to just be able to converse with people in-game. If it’s all hard-core devotees, I wouldn’t be interested. I only get to play 5-10 hours a week, sometimes more.

Very casual. Usually there’s one or two other people leveling alts, running dungeons, questing, or whatever happens to be fun at the moment. Nothing hard core about it, we usually do a guild dungeon run on Monday nights but it’s not mandatory. Come join us, we have cookies AND cake.

Lately I’ve been working on my low level warlock and rogue, going through some of the newer questlines and just taking a break from heroics. I’ve actually had a lot of fun! Now I loves me some dungeons but often I’ll find myself not queueing up, or leaving queue to finish a new quest I picked up. I still do a few dungeons in between though, have to say I love that they put the quest givers right at the entrance, very convenient.

Created my first ever alliance character last night to run through the Worgen starting area, didn’t get to play for too long but I like what I see so far. Then again I’m already wanting to reroll since I made the character while half asleep and didn’t put much thought into it.

Who should I talk to about joining?

Joe

Just do a “/who burning dog” and talk to whoever’s on line - word will get around. Or ask on the /sdmb channel.

Click on the link; I know the toons with the Guild Rank of 0,1,2, or 3 will be able to invite…I’m not sure about 4s. Let us know who you are on the Dope and the secret password…rhymes with Diesel.

It’s not the lazy bums I worry about. It’s the Defiant and Enraged ones that scare me.

Once, long ago, when I was doing this grind with an at-level toon (my shadow priest, in fact), I landed too close to a couple of these to mine some nethercite.

Bad orcs. Bad angry defiant enraged orcs.

Ow.

That said, the things they say after you booterang 'em are priceless.
