The malfunction is what makes the engineering one risky, but I wouldn’t discount the usefulness of a 20k shield in general. It can very well be the difference between living and dying. It’s especially useful when a huge expected hit is coming, like for example an electrocute on Nefarian.
And that’s a good point. Engineering tinkers are massively situational; in many cases, as I mentioned earlier, the situation is “I’m gonna die anyway, let’s just try this.”
The only thing we’re really losing is reliability, but since most engineer-only things are additive to other enchants etc., it’s not really losing anything. That said, again, my hunter doesn’t raid so the situations where group or wide-area damage would be a serious risk (justifying an additional shield) just don’t occur.
My point is just that 20k is less than 20% of even a clothy’s HP pool these days, and it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the total amount of damage the average raider will take over the course of an encounter.
Woo, congrats!
Has anybody lucked out with the any-zone seahorse mount off that rarespawn? Closest I’ve come is seeing it at auction for 180k last time I looked.
That’s why lining it up with predictable burst damage like **Enilno **suggests is the best use. If the tanks know you’re going to be using it, they can keep an eye on their bosses and be ready to immediately taunt back again if need be.
It’s not worth arguing about. IMO it’s still more useful than the rocket boots, when I already have a rocket boost and Ghost Wolf available. An effective 20% boost to my hp every few minutes seems pretty useful to me, especially when there is a lot of raid damage going around.
1.) I just like the idea that I can laugh off a 20k shield, when that was almost 75% of my entire HP when I was tanking Naxx.
2.) Sorry to nitpick, but as a vaguely theorycrafty tank, I need to correct this: a shield that absorbs 20% of your HP is not remotely comparable to a 20% boost to your HP. These two mechanics are completely different and should not be conflated.
You know that sword quest where one has to kiss a bunch of frogs to get the sword from the maiden? Well, you have to target a frog, wipe wart cream on your lips and then type /kiss and hope it’s the right one.
I was wondering if one could create a macro button that would handle all those things at once?
Thanks
Q
Here’s the one I use:
/use Warts-B-Gone Lip Balm
/kiss
I target the frog manually because automated targeting isn’t very reliable in this case.
First off, thanks for the macro Headrush042!
That will help out alot.
Now to my confusion, (appropriate Kinks music added for your enjoyment): The Kinks - State Of Confusion - YouTube

Yesterday I decided to do the Forlorn Cave fishing daily called Feed Squirky (I think that’s the name), and then when I got to the dock at Stormwind, the lady who usually offers her daily didn’t have the blue exclamation point over her head and I had not done that quest yet. I usually do both the cook’s and hers at the same time. If you do the Forlorn one, do you then not get the one on the dock?

The fishing tournament: I was in the frozen sea area for it and so didn’t hear the call, but started fishing at 1400 like it said. Okay, I wasn’t near a pool then, but I pulled in some pygmy suckerfish anyway (3 of them). I later went to a pool but soon got bore and lefrt.
What are they *for[/I, those suckerfish, (and sorry of this has been answered, and the site y’all referred me to isn’t explaining that to where I can understand it), and does it do me any good to keep them in my bank?
Also, I made it to 525 fishing yesterday. Got 7 points just fishing for the jewel at the Dalran fountain (you get the jewel much faster in the sewer, I have found, but I don’t know if you get the coins). Do I need to keep fishing and if so, how do I keep from fishing up junk - do I need to get exalted with some faction? I keep getting these fish that are only worth coppers and if they have food value, I just store them in my guild vault and give them away to someone who can use them who may be a new player.
The coins: I don’t need to keep the copper/silver ones, right, and I do throw the gold ones back into the fountain? I’m thinking that at some point, I’ll get the last gold one and win something?
Finally, I keep getting Wolkie’s ass kicked in that village near the Tol Barad camp where you have to kill 14 of those crazed people. I have died like 5 times there already and have had to go to cd several times. I generally never have to do that.
I “discovered” a new way to get to Captain P to kill him: I have about 12 walk on water potions saved up, so I just run to his wreck and run back. I say “new”, because it’s new to me.
Thanks
Q
You can only do one Old World fishing daily a day, so you have to choose between Ironforge, Stormwind or Darnassus (I think Darnassus has one).
I think suckerfish are used in alchemy.
jayjay: Thanks, my friend! :)
Q
Further research: The suckerfish are used to make pygmy oil, which can be consumed or used to make other alchemy recipes. If you consume enough, you change into a pygmy (though not, unfortunately, the Cataclysm type).
I found this to work without any issues with automated targeting:
#showtooltip Warts-b-gone Lip balm
/target Lake Frog
/use Warts-B-Gone Lip Balm
/kiss
It doesn’t target frogs you’ve already kissed?
I salute you, Quasi! I’ve got all my professions maxed (well, I need a couple more Chef’s Awards for my final cooking recipe, but I have the mats), but I just can’t do fishing. It’s way too boring.
Here’s my dilemma: my priest has every one maxed except archealogy, and my paladin has everyone maxed except fishing. I’d like to have them all maxed out on one toon, but there is no way I’m grinding through archealogy again. So fishing it is!
I don’t mind archaeology because I can dig while I stream netflix on my other monitor. I can’t do this with fishing because of the stupid bobber
When I used that macro (or one very much like it), yeah, it did target the ones I already kissed. As far as I can tell, there’s no machine-readable way to discriminate between frogs that are eligible for kissing and frogs that have already been kissed.
So auto-targeting was a no-go.
(I had the sick notion of adding an attack to the macro to kill them after I kissed them, but they’re friendly so not attackable… and since the Lady of the Lake appears only after a brief delay, if I could attack the frogs, I’d probably kill the one frog I’d been looking for before it could transform back into the Lady… pre-planned failure.)
That quest is the most painful of the Tournament valiant “Worthy Blade” quests, and I’ll be glad when my DK is past them.
Crap. My druid hasn’t done all of them yet either. I guess I have a ways to go.
I actually found it the most fun, but then, easily amused. The one that I hated was the one where you unfroze that chick on the lake, purely because the flight was the longest.
Yeah. Most of the boredom of Archaeology is travel. Most of the boredom of Fishing is watching the bobber.
I think that’s why Fishing is the only skill I have not maxed on any toon. Most alts are capped cooking and gathering skills, and most are capped for production skills, and on First Aid. Only the main is capped Archaeology, but I need to get my druid alchemist up to speed so I can grind for the Vial of the Sands recipe.
But fishing? The only real incentive is to either fish up alchemy mats or raw fish for cooking, or do the fishing dailies. So it goes very slowly.
Yup yup. Archaeology has interesting things you can dig up and it goes so much more quickly. Or it feels that way, anyway. I mean, an hour of Arch can net you 15+ skill points, and thinking about it Fishing would be around 10, right? I don’t know, I get bored before then.
