No, no…that would be jousting the lieutenants and commanders at the foot of the Citadel. God, I hated that.
It depends. The higher your skill, the more casts it takes for a skill point. Towards the end of maxxing my fishing, I just did the Org daily for the guaranteed point and whatever incidental points I’d get while doing it. I wasn’t in a hurry, and I wasn’t willing to put in more than 10 minutes a day for fishing.
My guild recently got the Cata seafood feast recipe – we all (about 6 of us) hopped in vent with wine and whiskey and fished for a few hours while yammering with each other – made the last 2000 fish for the achievement much more enjoyable.
That’s not part of the “Worthy Blade” series, but yeah – jousting can go die in a fire (and I’m pretty good at it!).
I’m with Tom Scud on this one though. Howling Fjord was my most hated one because of the travel time. My favorite one to get was the winter hyacinths for exactly the same reason.
Ah, that’s right. It’s been a while since I’ve done Tourney dailies.
4.2 patch tomorrow! Bring on Ragnaros! I’m a little excited for Firelands, watched some raid guides already, made sure all the Hyjal quests were done, and stocked up on some materials for the shiney new blacksmithing plans. Here’s hoping they get the servers up within a reasonable amount of time… yeah I probably just jinxed it.
Took a bit of a break from my 85’s to work on my lowbie warlock and rogue, after a few random dungeons I found myself rolling up a new warrior tank and a feral druid. I can’t help it, I just NEED to tank, I think I’m addicted.
Rolled the druid on a different server just for giggles and have been having a pretty good time just running around gathering stuff to sell on the AH for gold to buy bags. You never realize how amazing bags are until you don’t have any. Had an easier time on my warrior, rolled a Worgen to check out their starting area, and I’ve been feeding it gold through my BoA satchels I get from tanking heroics on my 85’s so I could buy better bags. Even with that my druid has far more gold just from gathering leather and ore then selling it on the AH, haven’t bought any bags though the ones you get from the new Quartermasters are just as good and a lot cheaper. It’s kind of refreshing to roll on a completely new server and just start over.
For kushie: The way I levelled my fishing skill was every time I did a quest near water, I would fish till I hit a new level number.
Also if I took the boat to Northrend, I’d fish on the dock till the boat arrived, then run to the port side and fish off the boat till it left.
What I’m leery of is the cooking which is supposed to go hand in hand with the fishing. I have the campfire, but not real anxious to get started doing it.
Also the macro: I couldn’t get the first one to work for me. I guess the one martu posted is one I should try. I don’t think I have ever entered one that long before!
Thanks
Q
Anybody know how big the patch download will be? I have to carefully budget such things against my daily download limit. (Yeah, still struggling along with satellite ISP. No other options available where I live)
Nope though maybe I am forcing that issue by running around a bit.
I haven’t read much about the upcoming patch. Are they adding any crafting recipes? Not that it matters too much to me – I’d guess any new recipes would only drop in raids – but my engineer has a bunch of chaos orbs and nothing useful to make with them except a couple of 346 ranged weapons which aren’t worth the other mats it takes to make them.
You can get the following recipe from doing the Daily Firelands Quests, Extreme-Impact Hole Puncher

Thanks martu. I can’t follow the link from work but I’m glad to see the gun is BoE. I should have been stocking up on truegold but oh well.
Actually, including a /tar in the macro still speeds things up considerably. As long as you keep moving toward unkissed frogs, it will target a fresh frog almost every time. IMO, kissing a frog or two twice out of who-knows-how-many is absolutely worth being able to spam just a single button instead of having to click on a frog every time.
Welcome to fishing, where the rewards are few and far between! ![]()
As for fishing up “junk,” it depends what kind of junk you mean. If it’s just cheap fish, then everything’s working as intended. Most of what you get through fishing is plain ol’ fish. Some of them can be valuable at auction because they’re used through Cooking to make foods that buff players. That’s mainly the ones out of the new Cata zones, though, because it’s always the highest-level stuff that raiders want.
If the “junk” is gray-quality items, then it means that your fishing skill is low compared to the level required to fish in the zone. If your fishing is at 525 now, this shouldn’t happen anywhere but the new high-level Cataclysm areas. The solution is to increase your fishing skill–when you’re already at the maximum level, you increase your skill mainly by using lures. These are items that you apply to your pole that give you a temporary boost to your fishing skill. There are also several in-game items that can boost your skill when you have them equipped, one beverage that gets you drunk and slightly increases your fishing, and one enchant that slightly increases it.
Fun fact about the history of fishing in WoW: it used to be the case that you simply couldn’t fish in an area if your skill wasn’t high enough. (And there was no way to tell what level of skill a zone required without trying to cast.) During Wrath, they changed it so that you fished up vendor trash instead, so that you’d still be getting skill points. Also back then, if your skill was high enough to fish in an area but at the low end of the requirement, there was also a chance for your fish to get away. If you think fishing is tedious now, it used to be soooooo much worse. ![]()
You can sell the copper/silver coins. Gold ones toss back in. When you have fished up each copper, silver, and gold coin at least once each, you will get an achievment, which will award you with a special coin you can keep in your bags. When you use the coin, it makes a special emote that says your character tosses the coin, and then which way it lands (heads or tails).
Well, there are a *few *benefits (pets, a mount, achievements, a title if you’re ridiculously obsessive like me).
On the daily fishing quest in Ironforge, I got two blue quality items in my bag of shiny stuff reward (one each on different characters). One was a fishing hat that buffs skill, I think. The other was a bone fishing pole that also buffs skill, but takes 300 skill points to use. I have about 50, so…not so great.
Salty Guns?
Oakminster, patch is around 400mb.
I was about to hit the sack last night and then realized the price of gems and enchants will probably skyrocket today as everyone who didn’t get into raiding picks up the VP->JP gear. I hopped back on and someone flooded the auction house with cheap Delicate Inferno Rubies, I picked up 6. Got a couple of enchants too.
For any member in a guild, it would be great for all guildies to fish up the mats (Highland Guppies, Fathom Eels) from pools for the That’s a lot of bait guild achieve, get the Seafood Magnifique Recipe, and then cook all those mats that goes towards cooking for other guild achieves.
Of course, the downside is that the 3rd mat, Lavascale Catfish are not fished from pools, which makes the meta achievement more of a grind to get, but should be worth it.
BDL is about 35% of the way there atm…I try to fish from 10-20 pools a day (usually for Volatile Fire), but now I’m going to shoot for these mats for when we get to that point where we can make a shitload of Seafood Magnifique.
Ah…Great…Living Embers…another item probably to need roll on.
They only drop in raids, so hopefully your raid group will have a good system in place that minimizes douchebaggery.
The Burning Dogs seem to have a foolproof system in place that entirely eliminates douchebaggery during raids.
I’d be happy if our raid group had a good system in place that minimzed not raiding.
ETA: What Tom said ![]()
What Tom and Skam said.
Tom, we need you to help us minimize not raiding in order to create a slightly better chance of douchebaggery.
I was seriously tempted recently, but then Team Fortress 2 came out for free.
ETA: Go ahead, build your tiny little gun.
