New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

After hearing about how nerfed the T11 raids are, I would like to think that even on Cairne people will be pugging them. Should help gear up alts, at least - possibly even a faster way to get JP than heroics too.

Back into the raid tonight, hopefully we’ll make more progress. Spent way too much time figuring out how to deal with Shannox’s dogs (and on trash… so much trash…). I think if I do a better job tanking the dog (I’m back to tanking, it seems) and we’ll have it. And since Beth’tilac is apparently easier than Shannox, I’m tentatively hoping for 2/7 tonight. Assuming Shin Kell’s internet is back…

The new raid has really grown on me. Shannox was the only one I didn’t think was all that fun. The rest were a blast. I didn’t get to fly around for Alysrazor except when we were wiping once but that fight was amazing. I also liked Beth’tilac a lot, and Baleroc is awesome for healers, but maybe not so much for everyone else.

Yes, we can:
(Hamuul appears)

Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem yells: And I have come for you, Leyara.

Leyara : I don’t believe it! I seared the life from your body!

Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem yells: I release you from this fate Leyara. May you finally find your peace in death.

(Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem cast Seed Burst on Leyara.)

(from Into the Depths)
Interesting. I you don’t want the Firelands quest chains spoiled, this conversation will have almost no content. Sorry.

Wasn’t my internet, my power went off. Then it started flickering on and off so much I thought was an extra in a horror movie.

I had a hard time seeing the traps at first, but now I know what to look for. Even so I ran into one while chasing you down. I’ll do better tonight.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Thrall questline is kind of tedious? I do want to run my other 85’s through it for the shiney cape, but the thought of not being able to skip all that dialog is a little frustrating.

I wasn’t too impressed by it, either. Subsequent run throughs with my other toons were accompanied by the mute button and Netflix streaming

So, I was tasked to go to Felwood, Emerald Sanctuary. I rode there on my mount, and grabbed the flight point, but it tells me that there are no flight points connected to it. I have about a dozen FPs on the continent if not more - can anyone tell me a flight point that connects to it, from somewhere south of it?

Joe

Joe, Horde or Alliance? Here is the map with Horde flight points on it: Kalimdor Zones - World of Warcraft

You can select Alliance if you need those instead.

Oops, Horde. Looks like I skipped Splintertree Post - I thought that was Alliance, but it shows as Horde.

Thanks

Joe

I haven’t dug back too far in the thread to figure it out, what server are SD people playing on? I recently resurrected my account and have two level 80’s on the horde side. I am hoping to find some decent group of people to play with on occasion.

Horde-side, Cairne, is the only “official” SDMB guild (Burning Dog Legion).

My toons (all Horde) are on Azgalor, and I regret it about every 35 minutes playing. Azgalor embodies the worst in PvP servers: punks on both sides with no social development, complete immaturity, and extremely fast twitch reflexes. Ganking is a way of life, and for a non douchebag world PvP is just something that happens to you while you’re trying to get something else done.

I think I’m mostly a singleton on that server with respect to the SDMB.

I hear tell BDL on Cairne is pretty good, though. (Mostly hear it here, of course.)

Cairne is not a cutting-edge raiding server by any stretch of imagination, and I’ve heard people observe that the economy is wonky (I have nothing to compare it to). But I rarely have trouble finding pugs for dungeons or heroics, the PvP zones and BGs seem competitive; and the BDL, while small, has pretty decent resources. New members always welcome!

Well, I am not tied to my server in any way since the guild I was with seems to be completely gone. Mayhaps I will transfer my characters over to Cairne. It is always hard to find a good guild of people.

You won’t find a friendlier or less drama-prone guild, I’m pretty sure of that. If you transfer just do /who Burning Dog to find one of us. Some of us also monitor /sdmb chat channel.

Hate the new patch. Hate hate hate.

I think my mage may be irreparably fucked. He’s suffered through the tedious Thrall questline, then got the Call of the Ancients quest from the Hero Board. Somehow, he got immediate credit for Tortolla, and somebody else…maybe Aviana. Still needs Goldrinn and Aessina. Took me approximately forever to find the guy hanging on a meat hook in the back of the ogre cave. Escorted him out, and the NPC to turn that quest in is not in position. Instead, he’s locked in a cage and won’t talk to me. Can’t get the quest for Nordu, then Aessina until I clear Goldrinn, and I can’t clear Goldrinn because I appear to be out of phase with those NPCs.

Fuck Blizzard with a rusty spike for this horribly annoying design flaw. Nobody wants to grind through every goddamn quest in Hyjal just to open up new content. Even worse that I can’t open the new content because their piece of shit phasing technology broke my favorite character.
GRRRRRRRR!

Speaking of… (and I know I don’t have as much game knowledge as y’all do), but after getting killed in that very first “protect Thrall” episode (after the video, etc), I found that although I could rez, when I returned to where that cyclone thingie was, I was told I had to re-enter the instance with the others who were involved.

Okie-fine, I can do that by abandoning and re-acquiring, right, but I’m not really sure what’s expected of me once the fight begins: just DPS or what?

Thanks

Hi Q

Yes just DPS the elementals you can see. Towards the bottom of your screen is a bar that will slowly fill up as you and others kill elementals, when it’s full you will have finished that phase and move on to the next.

To be fair to Blizzard, they had warnings in the 4.2 patch notes on the WoW community website that the Firelands content required you to have unlocked through the Regrowth for at least a month. I’ll grant you that for people who don’t check said site (or other WoW related gaming blogs), that is small consolation, but it was there.

And that’s the exact problem. Firelands is COMPLETELY dependent on your having phased Hyjal into the immediately post-Aessina’s Miracle state. Otherwise, the NPCs you need will be either locked up or (in the case of the Ancients) not summoned yet. And that means you have to work most of the three preliminary quest trees (Aviana, Goldrinn, and Tortolla).

I know a lot of people boredom-quit Hyjal when it initially came out, but sorry, if you want Firelands, you have to get Hyjal to the correct state first.

(Well, I mean “Firelands” the dailies. The raid, I suspect, is still doable as long as you can get a summon.)

ETA: I just had a horrible thought. Can you actually get the old Hyjal quests now? If not, is Blizz gonna leave those people who aren’t phased for 4.2 content high and dry? I wanna believe not, but who knows?

The first 3 elemental events (air, water, earth) are just “DPS the dudes”. The 4th one (fire) adds a “in the right place” factor… there are four huge shaman totems cast by Aggra. You have to kill the fire elementals sufficiently close to the “current” totem (as indicated by quest raid leader announcements from Aggra). The order is: West totem (Air) for the first 25% of the status bar, then East totem (Water) for the next 25%, then North totem (Earth) for the third 25%, the central totem (Fire, near where Aggra is) for the payoff. How close is “close”? Let’s just say that if you’re a ranged class, you’ll have to kite your targets slightly closer than maximum ranged attack range, or it won’t count. More importantly, YOU need to be fairly close to the indicated totem when the kill goes down. (Perhaps that’s the most important thing; I didn’t study the mechanics too closely, seeings as I was busy killing stuff and trying to fight off gankers.)

The good news is that kills don’t enforce a “tap and own” mechanism. Anyone can share kills, even if the target is tagged. This is good news if you see anyone, even a hostile PC, wrestling with one of the big elementals.
