New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Thanks SFG and Bosstone (where you been, btw?),

Does it do me any good for a tournament to have saved pygmy suckers in my bank?

Thanks

Q

Given how much WoW has been liberally borrowing from successful innovations by other games and MMOs (for things like RealID and achievements), I really wish they’d borrow something from Rift and allow a setting where you could loot an entire group of mobs at once with a single click. I know that especially at low level when one of my baby tanks wades in and takes down a group of six or seven baddies, I’d really love to be able to just grab everything they have instead of having to click six or seven times (because when you’re a lowbie, you sell everything!) Even better would be a setting that allows you to click a pile of mobs and grab only those items of a particular (settable) rarity or higher. That way you could lay waste to the countryside, click once, and be assured that you’ve hoovered up all the green-and-better stuff they were carrying.

You hear that, Blizz?

Not playing WoW. Pretty sure I’m done with the game entirely, I just like looking in here every so often.

I have received crates from schools of Deviate Fish and Stonescale eels, and probably others, but those are the only ones I am 100% sure of.

ETA : Also Stranglekelp from schools of various types.

Joe

You should post this to the wow forums. I know I’m all for it.

Several groups of kobolds: steal their candles!
Several groups of murlocs: buy their tacos! if there’s that many, it’s gotta be good.
Several peacebloom plants: make them Warchief!
High Overlord Saurfang: walk into your own Immolation Trap

Nope. It’s not the Pygmy Suckerfish you’re after–they just tell you you’re fishing in the right place. The shark you need to win the tournament just has a teensy-tiny chance to replace the Pygmy Suckerfish when you actually fish it up.

Any of those you’ve saved, you can sell to a vendor or on the Auction House.

People have been asking for this for yeaaaaaaaaaars. It’s always been an obnoxious mechanic. I believe Engineers actually have a device now that allows them to loot a bunch of corpses at once; my fervent hope is that this is intended to be kind of a beta test for a similar ability for everyone.

The Loot-a-rang originally looted multiple corpses as a time, but soon after (before?) Cata launch it was nerfed so that you have to target one corpse at a time. And it has a 10-second cooldown, so it’s really only good to loot dead mobs that are out of reach.

Hi all and grats to everyone if you deserve it.

Great article on wowinsider Q and what I thought were some fantastic comments from everyone to it, very well done.

My new(ish) horde guild is working out really well, mature bunch with no drama (so far) and exceptionally helpful. In the last 3 weeks I have done the following for the first time:

[ul]
[li]Raid current content - in PvP gear no less, managed about 13k DPS not great but no too shabby[/li][li]Use vent - a new dimesnion to the guild interactions[/li][li]Win an Arena match though I got my arse kicked more often than not[/li][li]Win a rated BG[/li][/ul]

I have gone from feeling a tad underwhelmed with the game to being excited again, being in an active guild has changed so much.

For my alts the druid is 59 and about to level via the RDF as a healer. Healed on her for the first time last night actually and loved it, I like HoTs more than direct heals and the animations\graphics look so much better than my Paladin heals. My rogue farmed and farmed and farmed Library Guardians for the Jeeves schematic but since it’s dropped I’ve not been back to him.

Thats awesome. Having a good group of folks to do stuff with certainly is a game changer (pun intended).
So since my Guild finally got our first Nef klll last week. We went into Throne of the 4 Winds last night for the first time as a guild. I think those boss encounters are pretty fun and wish we had been doing them sooner. The cool thing was that Al’Akir actually dropped two T11 tokens that were both needed to give people their 4 piece bonus! Woohoo!. Oh, and shiny new titles and Dark Phoenix mounts all around =D

Now we can really make Firelands our priority, though we are going to try out some Heroic BoT this thursday to see how it goes :).

I should unlock the Talon Druids tonight. Having already unlocked the Shadow Wardens, does this mean I should have access to a new vendor? Any links to what said vendor has available?

You won’t get a vendor yet. The vendor comes with 125 marks after unlocking both Talons and Wardens. What you do is do one day of Talons dailies, along with the 1-time Need Water escort quest over there (awards 5 marks). This will unlock one additional daily no matter which faction you decide to do for a particular day (so you’ll be getting 26 marks/day after this, for either faction).

Here’s a breakdown of the final unlocks:

Tips for making your decision for the final stage:

Filling the Moonwell- unlocks the finale of the Leyara quest line, resulting in a 1-time reward of 10 marks, an achievement, and a flame druid illusion item (5 min duration, 1 hr cd). No extra dailies. LW and Tailoring patterns (scribe, mining, gem bags). Crimson Lasher pet. Mushroom chair.

Calling the Ancients- unlocks a new daily that awards 3 marks (part of the Ready For Raiding II achievement). Hyjal Bear Cub pet. Mylune’s Call (summons grass, flowers, butterflies, and critters; 50 min cd).

Additional Armaments- unlocks a new daily that awards 2 marks. BS plans and Engy schematics (gun + hunter-only scope).

There’s a piece of 365 gear for every spec on each of the vendors, some of which may or may not be better than the 346/359 stuff you already have, depending on your specific stat priorities. Mr. Robot should tell you which ones are better than what you currently have and which quest to unlock for it, though. If you’re a BS or engy, you’ll probably want Armaments first. Otherwise it doesn’t really matter (you get the most marks the fastest with Ancients, obviously, but really only end up saving a day or two).

Thanks for the info, Headrush042. Looks like I still have a ways to go. All this unlocking is becoming tedious and grindy. Sigh.

That’s the stupidest item ever. Wow.

The sad part is, this is still waaaaaaay less tedious than a lot of the previous comparable things (QD in TBC, Argent Tournament in Wrath).

I know! I love being in an active guild now. I don’t need to feel super-awkward asking for stuff (like lf engineer) in Trade chat. I’ve got to experience so many of the old raids I never had a chance to do. The Guild xp system makes people stay in a guild longer. Vent is hilarious to listen to.

I’m currently playing a Shadow Priest, level 57 or 58, and enjoying it. I’m Grapecrush at the Armory. I only do solo PvE. My problem is that I run out of mana a LOT. My usual rotation is:

Holy Fire –> Devouring Plague –> Power Word : Shield –> Mind Blast.

If it’s a tough enemy, I’ll toss in Shadow Word : Pain before MB. I usually follow up MB with my wand, just to mop up the last few HP without using more mana, but if there are more than about 1/3 HP left, I follow MB with Mind Flay, maybe Smite.

This is an effective rotation for up to 3 or 4 mobs at a time - the PW : Shield helps me take minimal damage. But in a moderately crowded area, I have to drink after 6 or 7 mob fights, and if I fight 3 or 4 at a time, I have to drink immediately.

  1. Any suggestions for improving mana consumption?

  2. Any spell rotation suggestions?

  3. Am I making any gearing errors, bearing in mind that I get stuff ONLY by solo questing or AH?

  4. Are my talents messed up? I could look up cookie-cutter builds, I assume, but some input would help.

I intend to use Shadow to get to 85, then, tentatively, switch to healing and start multiplayer content, though I am not comfortable in groups.

Thanks in advance!

Joe

I strongly advise against this. High end dungeons are not a good place to learn how to heal for groups. You’ll likely cause many wipes and piss people off. Start learning to heal now, in lower level dungeons where many players outgear the content anyway, so there’s less pressure on the healer.

I’m not a priest expert, but if you’re using Holy Fire & Smite then I believe you are not in Shadowform which will destroy your mana efficiency.

Maybe a more experience priest should speak up but i believe you want something like:
Vapiric touch - devouring plague - Shadow word pain - mind blast

At the least, you want to use only shadow spells, so that you are not taken out of shadowform ever.

As Clawdio mentioned you don’t want to cast any holy spells as Shadow. You get taken out of shadow form, and you get no bonuses to holy spell damage.

At low levels you don’t have the full arsenal of spells to use as you would at max level. Generally you’ll want to stick with Mindblast on cooldown with Mindflay as filler in between. Depending on how fast the mobs die it may or may not be worth it to cast your dots; if they die before the dot runs out it probably isn’t. When I leveled my priest I think I kept SWP on most things but that was it.

For your mana problems, get the Glyph of Spirit Tap, and try to time Shadow Word Death so that it is the killing blow. If you run low on mana, use SWD on cooldown.

I wouldn’t really worry about learning to heal at low levels. The experience will be completely different from healing at 85. If you’ve never done any healing at all, then trying it a few times might be worth while to work out your UI, but otherwise the best place to learn to heal is in normal 5 man dungeons at 85, where you have all the tools available to you, and the content is hard enough to provide a challenge but easy enough to be forgiving of mistakes.

I never even considered Shadowform, since I love PW : Shield, and my killing ability is quite good already. I’ll try it tomorrow. Thanks!
