It really depends on how good the enemy is peeling off their own healers and how much healing your teammates need at the moment. If your team has no problem focusing down healers, then I wouldn’t worry about it. If your team is getting peeled a lot, then burning down their healer’s mana is certainly an effective (but costly) way to shut them down. Alternately, MC and run them from the fight (even when not by a cliff or ledge) costs them a good bit of time if you know their trinket is down.
Grats. Beth goes from cluster to smooth once you get the right DPS assignments. For us it’s sending one DPS up top for the first and second “rounds” and leaving him down to clean up adds for the third.
5% sounds like you’re pretty much there. Not bad for 2 hours, IMO.
We had a pretty dodgy raid week - only killed 3 bosses. We had too many normal members out, and the replacements weren’t cutting it. Couldn’t get the healing rotation for Baleroc and our flyers are not handling Alysrazor at all… gotta fix that. And also wasted about an hour on Rhyolith on Tuesday only to one-shot him on Thursday… what an RNG fight.
This really is the best reason to random BG, IMO - pissing people off (and getting pissed off). Clutch silences on their big heals, stuns right as they’re about to save the flag carrier. Perfectly timed cool-downs to mitigate their big attacks. I always have some random moment in a BG that makes me smile - and that’s what it’s all about, right?
Last night it was getting a mage down to like 5% HP only to have him attempt to jump off the Lumber Mill to escape. Ran up to the edge, Death Gripped him back up, and killed him.
If anybody sees Darland on and idling feel free to ask about doing a random BG - I’m almost always up for it, and can probably get a few friends to come along too.
So many rolling restarts and instance resets today. I’ve had 3 amazing groups cut short because the servers were reseting right in the middle of the run.

I think once we get our Spriest back in and flying on Alys we’ll do just fine since he’s flown before and knows what to do. I’ll also take some blame for the Baleroc screw ups, my brain totally went on vacation after the first rotation and I couldn’t for the life of me remember who I was supposed to heal.
Next week will be better! Crosses fingers
That was you?! No wait, we’re both Horde and I actually got away.
Alysrazor is an interesting fight in regards to roles. It took me about 3 hours of wipes to finally get the flying down. Me and the RL both. He seemed to get it before me, but I’m more comfortable now. Though I still sweat it out. I said it before and I’ll say it again. Our odds improve when everyone lives.
Start with what you have, period. I started with raid gear I picked up on offspec rolls, Moonkin Season 9 gloves that dropped in BH, and an old Wintergrasp PvP trinket. The best way to gear up for BGs is with honor from BGs. And random BGs are random. If you have a good group you can win quickly and get extra honor but if not you will still pick up a bunch if you stay in the thick of fighting. It’s not like running dungeons where you have to win to get stuff. Unless your team is completely hopeless and you are getting farmed then you are picking up HKs.
I plan on making the plunge into BGs on Monday. The next two days at work are my long days, so when I get home about all I have time for are some dailies and maybe a regular heroic dungeon on one toon so I can try to cap his VP for the week. Last night, I had some extra time though and did ZA–which lead to just enough honor for the spell pen back. After reforging my gear, I now have the 4% hit, 200 spell pen, and 2.5k resilience for when I start on Monday. Just need to set up my raid frames and bars for my pvp spells.
Speaking of random BG’s…
I play solo PvE, exclusively.
About a month back, when I was a clvl 74-76, I tried Alterac Valley laaaaate one night. I mean, waaay too tired and waaay to many adult beverages late. I sucked.
Last night, now an 85 feral druid kitty, I was (cough) inspired to try it again, this time in Gilneas as that is the thing this week end.
Well, I still suck at PvP. You get 12 toons all fighting around a flag with 8 zillion spell effects going off, and I am lucky to find my cursor, much less someone to attack.
So I just leaned up against the flag pole, and started healing, even though I am specced pure feral druid kittty.
You know what? You heal a couple of tanks and cast Tranquility for the entire raid group at that flag, and the Alliance DPS come to find you 8-). Shift back to Cat, and Rake Mangle Mangle Mangle Rip…
All of a sudden I am doing something, the team loves me, and I am getting killing blows 8-).
I’m going to try this again tonight 8-).
It has, however, reminded me that I really like healing in MMO’s. I have a clvl 62 auction alt from back in vanilla, and I had been thinking of making her a Bear, but am now leaning towards healer for her.
Of course, then I remember the frustrations of being a healer in EQ2, L2, and GW. Still, I’m the kinda guy that will let an idiot die rather than stress about it…
As a Shadow Priest, level 63/64, would you give away 51 Stamina, 16 Hit Rating, and 57 Crit rating to gain 52 Intellect? I have three pieces of gear I’m wondering if I should switch out, and those are the net stat changes. Dying isn’t a problem right now, but Mana usage still is, though not as bad as before…

Dinged 85 on my Tankadin this weekend (3rd 85!). Went through the orc love story yet again to snag the nice cloak, unlocked Molten Front, bought neck, boots, and ring from that first vendor…yeah, I know the ring isn’t really a tanking ring, but I figured sacrificing some strength for a major stamina gain was worth it. Not anywhere close to raid tanking, but I’m rocking il331 gear, and self buff to 124K hp. Not too shabby for a new 85.
Molten front dailies are a pain in the ass for melee types. Lava Bursters hurt…like 50k damage with that rain thing they do. I’ve taken to tagging them from max range with exorcism, and playing caster while the NPCs kill them. Not exactly glorious and valiant, but it works…
Thinking I may go grind some TB dailies to get a better weapon…
And you call yourself a TANK? For shame…
I think someone else recommended this earlier, but I just want to give a shout out to http://www.wowreforge.com/ for doing a great job of optimizing my gear after I tried for one hour figuring it out myself. It did some fancy reforging to get it right for the new gear I got, but it did it in 10 seconds when I couldn’t do in an hour.
I wouldn’t stress the stamina since it’s integral to all gear, and also because as a non-melee type, part of the job description is to not get hit in the first place.
I would definitely make the switch for the int, since you’re still leveling. At that point, hit and crit are nice but not as important. They become more interesting at level cap when your gear is less likely to be upgraded multiple times in one day from questing/dungeoning/etc.
Thanks!
Joe
Make sure to pick up the Mirror of Broken Images (or Horde equivalent). It’s just awesome for tanking.
I can’t imagine running the Firelands dailies on more than one toon. I was just telling my guildies today how sad they make me. I have a lot of other higher level toons and an 85 DK but they will never be geared so long as that quest gear is required to get into raids since I refuse to start into them again. I still have a couple weeks to go to get stuff for my druid tank and that’s it.
The Firelands daily quest grind is terrible. I understand that they didn’t want to make it easy to get such great gear but it’s such a pain in the ass. Basically for our raiders who don’t have time to play a lot, that’s all they do. They raid on raid days and run dailies on their toons on the rest of the week. They no longer have time to do fun stuff like BGs or old content. Our people are getting burned out with the repetitive nature of gearing in this expansion. I never did do the troll heroics but it’s getting to be impossible to get a guild group for them. You ask in guildchat or on Vent and you just get a bunch of groans in reply.
It has a cast time and is targeted beforehand – so just run through them to the other side when you see the cast start.
Besides, when has any mechanic in this game ever not been punishing to melee types?
Remember a week or so ago, when I told y’all that when I took the elixir, instead of making me walk to the P Harris quest that instead of walking, I sank and had to swim it?
Well, I created a ticket for it, and one of the GM’s came on and chatted with me about it and asked me if the elixir bottle showed next to the min-map. I told him/her it did and I was out 3 elixirs because of the glitch.
So he/she/it told me I couldn’t have them back because they showed as being used. End of story.

PS: There’s at least one other Doper this happened to, but I forgot who you were, so all I could say it happened to another person that I knew of. Nothing.
Finally got the fishing hat from the Thunder Bluff daily!

Picked up Dwyer’s Caber a couple of days ago…raaawwwr!
If you see any trees flying around during a battle, then that’s the culprit!
I am healing my way through Outland on my druid at the moment, zoning into the instance my first thought is always ‘Please no DK tank, please no DK tank’ and last night we had a real special one. Slave Pens pops up and I see a Blood DK, Ok not too bad here I thought the patrols can be an issue sometimes but otherwise this is straightforward.
First few pulls OK, usual spike damage to contend with but nothing bad. Then we get a pull where about halfway through a patrol turns up, they focus on me immediately as I’m spamming heals on the DK and what does he do? Nothing just lets them attack me, I run toward him and he still ignores them. So I die and with no option of a res release and start to walk back. Then in chat the DK says ‘Let’s kick the healer’??? No one else had got below 50% health apart from the guy who died, me, who was being attacked by 3 mobs.
Popped onto my rogue for some pvp action after that, I was angry. Anyway it leads to a question how do you get into Slave Pens when you are dead? I was walking on the water as a ghost and the entrance is below water.
When you’re ghosted, going down should let you pop the surface. You know how you dive when you’re alive? Do that.
