New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Apparently my new Priest alt is an Epic magnet. She’s 56, and she’s already got two epic drops (Embrace of the Wind Serpent and Circle of Flame), and last night we got Ironfoe for Daed’s Warrior. /flex

Speaking of Sunken Temple, is anyone else really disappointed with the way they’ve neutered the place?

Not sure–it was part of a gift from my mom, from The Hunger Site. I think this organization was actually somewhere overseas. And it’s bar soap, not gel.

Yes, and it’s not just you who’s complaining about it. Your best bet is probably to just start micromanaging your pet, as **Mince **suggested. Or you could use Assist, and see how that works for you.

This is what I’ve been doing in dungeons on my level 51 hunter. I leave my pet on assist and I’ll try to switch targets just before my current target dies, so that my pet is never without a target to attack. In a group there is always enough other incoming damage to finish off my first target, and it avoids my pet wasting time running back and forth.

Not me. That place used to take approximately forever and a day. Now, it’s a quick run and easy to tank. No weird mechanics, just simple tank & spank. Just the way I like it.

That’s the problem for me–it’s so fast it doesn’t even feel like an instance anymore, just a couple of rooms full of trash and bosses. Nothing fun or unique, just a bunch of space.

Granted, a maze like that would be a pain in a random where no one knew the layout. But that hasn’t stopped them from dropping us into BRD a hojillion times. And they still haven’t updated the way they split the bosses there–either you’re required to kill a boss that you can easily kill first after about 90 seconds of clearing trash, or you have to go all the way to the end, which takes a goodly while even if you skip almost everything. (Although **Daed **does now have it down to a science for how to get there as quickly as possible.)

Yeah, same. I hated that place. Maybe I’m lazy, but I don’t want to run dungeons where it’s so easy to get lost, especially if you don’t run them very often. I don’t go near BRD for the same reason–I still don’t know my way around that place and I have no compelling reason to go in there so I don’t.

Seriously, any place where even the entrance was as much of a pain to find as the old Sunken Temple just wasn’t fun for me (and I think a lot of people agree). Maybe they have neutered it a bit more than I’d like, but the way it was before was just a nightmare.

There was a sense of accomplishment, though–once you’re in there long enough, you start to find your way around. It’s gotten even better now that all of the instances have their own maps.

Do you not have to go up and down levels activating statues to actually get into the places you need to get into anymore? God, I hated that.

Nope. All one level now. There’s the big circle in the middle, with hallways to the bosses. Trash spaced far enough apart that overpulls are unlikely. Easy-peasy.

Very nice! Sorry, Guns…I actually liked Uldaman more than the old ST. And nobody likes Uldaman.

You never had to flip levers that I recall–you did have to clear off the platforms and have everyone click the statues in the right order, though. I forget what that did–I think maybe it opened up the shield that blocked Jammal’an.

Now, you port straight in to the lower level (though not the basement), where you have Jammal’an and Shade of Eranikus and all that. *Everything *else is blocked off. You can’t even jump down into the basement to fight that boss down there. :frowning:

AFAIK, Uldaman is still intact. In fact, I haven’t seen anything else get gutted like ST did.

So did they change all the level 50 class quests? A lot of those used to take you down to the useless basement level.

Yes, they were removed when Cataclysm dropped.

I … Like Uldaman… But that’s because I’m a lore junkie. Also, waaaaay back when before BC, if you were an enchanter, one of your trainers was IN Uldaman, and not near the entrance, either!

Of course, my lore junkiness is what makes me not like ST as much anymore, either. Yes, in order to get all the quests for it you had to go through Hinterlands, Tanaris, Ferelas, and a couple of other zones, but there was a -story- (The soulflayer) and the promise of another one (Erankius? (sp?)) that are now just ‘Hey look, another boss’. I kinda miss that stripping of lore. Then again, I think no one really cares much about the lore of the instances anymore, and that makes me kinda sad.
(Speaking of which, it took me until about six months ago to realize that the four spirits Ymiron calls on in Utgarde Pinnacle are the four whose graves got robbed by the pirates in HF!)

For a very long time now, whether or not I’m playing Warcraft at the time, after having been online for say, 10 hours, my computer will begin showing a flickering black screen, surrounded by bits of white, accompanied with snippets of what is on my home page or whatever page I’m working with at the time.

Somehow I manage to get to the lower left hand tray and am able to click Restart, which I have just now done. But here’ what my google research showed: I need to update my video driver (NVidia GE Force 590 is what’s in here). Okay fine, so I do that and all is well for maybe a day or so and then that shit starts all over, and so do I with my NV updates of the driver.

It always updates - never tells me I already have the newest version and do I want to update anyway.

So is this in any way unusual, y’all - driver updates that often?

Here’s what I have:

Does it look something like this?

Are the repeatable dailies (like cooking and fishing) always the same until you do that daily? Like, I’ve noticed that if I don’t take the daily, it will be the same one the next day. Am I just unlucky with randomness, or does it not become a new daily until you take it?

No, but it doesn’t change every single day. I think it’s random. I’m sure that it’s the same daily for everyone on the server, at least for the lower level dailies. Dunno if the Lich King fish/cook dailies are the same as the classic dailies.

Joe

The dailies are chose randomly every day at daily reset time and is the same for everyone who meet a certain set of conditions AFAICT (one of the first 4 Firelands dailies can vary between people depending on the order in which they’re unlocking vendors). You’ve just been unlucky trying to get the ones you want.

Ugh…why do so many raiders/pvpers have to be assholes? MMO-Champion has a blue post up about the new Darkmoon Faire, and about 1/4 of the comments are hardcore raiders or pvpers complaining about time wasted on developing a kiddie zone. The contempt just drips from their posts. It’s like they don’t think anyone but hardcore raiders or dedicated battleground pvpers should even be playing WoW. Buncha dicks…

Squees like a girl

Fez. Wearing. Monkeys!

This may be the best patch ever!

(Besides, I’m a sucker for both carnivals and the lore that I have a feeling is lurking just underneath this one!)
