New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Well, only the thing that gives the next step: Heavy embersilk bandage, but I can’t click (right or left) on it and train up, and it still says level 475 is needed.

The “Train” box doesn’t light up, either.

And when you open your First Aid window with embersilk in your bags, you don’t get a yellow or green “Embersilk Bandage” you can make at the top of the list? That’s weird.

If the trainer no longer offers it to you, it should mean that you already trained it. But if it’s not showing up in your First Aid window, that should mean that you haven’t trained it. I have no idea what’s going on there. I think you should probably put in a ticket, Quasi.

No, no yellow or green box and no “train” visible. I went ahead and put in a ticket. Hopefully someone will answer soon.

Thanks for staying on with me, my friend, and whenever you want to put jaejae in the guild, just let me know. I gotta go eat dinner, but will be in TB later tonight.

Thanks again!

Q

Here’s the answer I got from the ticket I put in:

To level up your First Aid, you don’t need to turn in any cloth to the trainers, you level it by making bandages from the cloth itself. :] Then, the trainers will give you the option to train the higher levels of First Aid, but you already appear to have the highest level possible, so you just have to train up to 525. :]

Oh, I see what you were doing, then. Yeah, you have to actually make the bandages, not hand in the cloth.

But that’s still not right. I KNOW I don’t have to go to the trainer. I only went to the trainer to see if I could level up and get over that 470. I know all I have to do is open the professions window, choose First Aid, and then hit CREATE or CREATE ALL. I’m just saying that I’ve been doing that for three nights with frostweave cloth and I can’t get over 470. Embersilk isn’t even an option yet, so I can’t see how I’m supposed to train up to 525 if I can’t get over 470, no matter how many frostweaves I make. The next break point is 475, but I can’t get there.

Thanks

Q

Quasi, which trainer are you at?

I don’t think ALL first aid trainers teach Embersilk bandages. The ones in Northrend almost certainly don’t. I can’t look it up in Wowhead right now, but you need to find the First Aid trainer in Stormwind who can train you on Embersilk bandages.

For the Horde, I know the Goblin first aid trainer in the Goblin slums will do it. Someone else will have to tell you where to go Alliance-side.

Ok I re-read your posts and saw that you see the trainer has Heavy Embersilk available at 475. If she has Heavy Embersilk, she would have Embersilk which you are high enough to learn. If she’s not offering it, and you haven’t learned it… I’m stumped again.

Skammie, my trainer is in Goldshire. I can go to the one in NR or in SW, I just always go to Goldshire, because she’s easy to find, but she trains the same.
I think I’ll start another ticket, I’m sure the GM misunderstood what I was trying to ask.

Thanks

Q

I don’t usually recommend skill leveling guides, but this series hasn’t steered me wrong. I just ignore the mildly obnoxious advertising and it’s OK. The information is usually very good, and tends to be caught up rather quickly after profession progression changes.

So, their First Aid guide gives the following progression:

This echos my experience: You learn basic Embersilk Bandages at 425. These stay green thru to 475, when Heavy Embersilk Bandages become available.

Now, “green” does not mean “fast progressing”. The last 5 points are terrible; expect to make 30-40 bandages to get those last 5 points. Most bandages will not proc an increase, and in fact, the chance of a proc decreases the closer you get to 475. On one toon, I think I crafted more than 20 Embersilk Bandages to get the point transition for 474 to 475.

It’s as frustrating as almost anything in the game, really. This is almost as grindy as grinding rep or low-drop-rate quest items, with the only advantage that you can put it on autopilot (“Create all”) and walk away if you have a lot of material.

Thanks for the tips. I will mention these to our raid leader. Though, to be honest i’m not sure we two strong enough healers to make this happen. We put in a few attempts with a strat that had the healers more spread out than usual, and we started having problems with tank deaths. (not this big strong bear of course, but that silly blood DK kept eating dirt)

gnoitall, from what I could see, Quasi’s problem is more than just misunderstanding. He says that Michelle Bell, in Goldshire, doesn’t offer to train him in Embersilk Bandage. WoWHead says Michelle trains Embersilk Bandage. So if he can’t train it from her, he’s already bought it, right?

Well, if the screenshot he posted last page was taken just before he posted it, he doesn’t have Embersilk Bandage in his list of creatables. The very top item on the list is Heavy Frostweave Bandages. So that means he didn’t train it, right?

So which is it, because that’s two mutually exclusive conditions, right there. If he doesn’t have it in his list, he didn’t train it. If the trainer doesn’t offer it when they DO train it, then he already trained it.

There’s something goofy going on…

Quasi, do us a favor. Sometime today when you’re playing, head for a First Aid trainer (Michelle’s fine if you’re still in that area). First, open your First Aid skill window, make sure your list of possible items to make is at the top, and screenshot that. Then talk to Michelle (or whatever trainer), pick “I want to train in First Aid”, and screenshot the dialogue box that comes up then. Then post them here, okay? I want to see screenshots of both things before I try to figure anything else out.

So I don’t usually pay too much attention to PTR releases, but 4.3 has stuff that I’m actually really excited about. Reading WoW Insider, I’m finding myself kind of irked about the PTR. I don’t understand why hardcore raiders don’t get pissed off about it. I mean, if you aren’t using the PTR, you have a very, very small chance of getting Realm First on a raid because the top guilds have been working on it for a month or two. A video strategy of the first of the new 5-man dungeons was posted within a day of the PTR going live!

Or am I totally off on this?

Can’t send a shot of her asking me for training, she doesn’t ask that when I click on her. Just says hello______.

Sorry, but this will show you where I am at right now. Maybe just feed her some more frostweaves? Also I’m just a grandmaster of first aid, not an illustrious anything since I haven’t got to 525 yet.

Q

You really shouldn’t be able to hand in frostweave cloth to her at all…AFAIK, she doesn’t have that action (to “take” the cloth from you). I can’t see the screenshot until I get home in an hour or so…work doesn’t let me into Photobucket. I’ll look at it then.

No, I know that. I just have to go to my spells page, click on professions, choose first aid, click that icon and start making bandages. I’ll send you that shot as well. Thanks jay. Wish you and the other WoW players could come to our Oktoberfest on Sunday (my own Brewfest), but y’all probably live in East Hell, or somewhere.

Quasi

That picture indicates that you are an Illustrious Grand Master in First Aid. Also indicates to me that you should have already trained in regular embersilk bandages.

MAybe you’ve already tired this, but if not, go to your professions tab, select First Aid, then at the top right will be a filter option. Click it, and uncheck “have materials” and check “has skillup”. If you have the ability to make embersilk bandages, it should now show in the list of things you can make with First Aid.

In the alternative, you can uncheck both “have materials” and “has skillup”, and see a list of everything you can make. The grey ones will not raise your skill any more. Anything Green, Yellow, or Orange can raise your skill.

I did both, Oakie, and there’s a small box that pops up that says “Bandage” and “Other”, and when I click on bandage, the number 1 appears in “Create” but everything else is greyed out except “Exit”. There is no list, and nothing appears in the icon box whicj usually has a picture of what I’m supposed to make.

I forgot where I looked that showed me as just a grand master, but if I’m illustrious, I should have already made all that stuff, right?
Thanks

Q

Based on those screenshots, your trainer definitely thinks you already know how to make Embersilk bandages. I don’t know why it’s not showing up at the top of your list when you open the First Aid window; that’s really strange.
