New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

You do know Chromie’s actually a male dragon, right?

Nope. WowWiki explains that she’s an exception to the naming convention, but definitely female, citing World of Warcraft: The Magazine, Issue #2.

OK, I’ve got a question about Archaeology. All the guides say you just need to be level 20 to learn it. But all my level 20 characters who have visited various different Archeology trainers find that they have a blank list for what they can train. Is there some further requirement, like reputation?

You also need a Cataclysm-enabled account.

Dragon poon is the best poon.

Thanks. That’s what I was missing.

Krasus is a very lucky man!

The RNG gods are having a giggle at me right now.

My Alliance main goes to do the fishing daily (his fishing is something abysmal because I find it tear-inducingly boring without a defined goal in mind), and what does he get but the Bone Fishing Pole. Which he can’t even use yet.

Then I log over to a baby DK and figure, hey, I’ll try the daily on that one too. The Track Fish book drops. Apparently I’m being told to help the DK’s guild with the 10K fishing achieve, so I figure I’ll join in, help out a bit, level fishing at the same time.

After a few days catching mountains of Deviate Fish, I get bored and buy a flying mount before heading out to Terokkar Forest.

Fish the Highland Mixed School pools, get gibbed multiple times by water AND tree elementals because I’m trying to stab them with a fishing pole. Move on to a quieter lake. Fish up Mr. Pinchy. Go “Eeeee!” And then click on him. DING First wish and what do you know. Baby DK now has a pet Mr. Pinchy.

I think I used up all my RNG luck for the next year on that. :smack:

The RNG gods hate my main, the only toon I’d care to get those rare-and-interesting finds. My DK 5th alt (pretty much just a JC/scribe trade alt, really) has both the jeweled and bone fishing poles… which he can’t use. My main… got the jeweled fishing pole long ago, but I’ll be damned if I ever let that rough tough orc hunter caught dead with that bling-stick.

Another true story of perverse RNG love…

My druid (4th alt, pretty much just herbalism/alch trade alt) is tooling around Uldum looking for pretty flowers to pick. NPCScan hits on a “Mysterious Camel Figurine”. I find it, trigger it, and fight an 85 elite ettin named Dormus the Camel Hoarder. I win and he drops The Reins of the Grey Riding Camel. Apparently, this is sufficiently rare to merit its own Feat of Strength and title “<name> the Camel Hoarder”.

While it’s an amazing stroke of luck, why the hell couldn’t it have happened on my main? He’s the one I am all completionist on, not the random tradeskill alts.

I’ve had some pretty amazing RNG luck (and some pretty bad luck too!) on my main and my almost-main. Like the week that both Bindings of the Windseeker (legendary drops that you need both of to build the legendary sword Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker) dropped for me on the same Molten Core run. Or the two Zul’gurub tiger mounts that dropped in two weeks (one for my DK, one for my mage). Took me a long time but I finally got the Eye of Sulfuras last week, and last night my DK finally got one of the two Warglaives of Azzinoth from Illidan in Black Temple. Now I just need the other one and three more Blood of the Mountain and I’ll have four legendary weapons (Shadowmourne, Thunderfury, Sulfuras and the Warglaives). Oh, and I also got two different drops of the Baron’s mount in Stratholme before they changed the level requirements, within three weeks of each other.

On the other hand, Attumen the Huntsman in Karazhan absolutely refuses to drop his horsie for me, despite the fact that I’ve been going in there every week for the last year or so trying to get it. And I would faint if Ashes of Al’ar dropped (the thing I covet more than anything else in all of WoW.)

My best RNG day:

The day 4.2 drops, I decide to bugger off and mine in Twilight Highlands, figuring I’ll have no competition. Lo and behold, a purty lion wants to be my forever friend! Thinking ‘well, I’ll be damned…I’ll just fly around for shits and giggles, it won’t be there anyway…’, an even purtier wolf grabs my attention only mere minutes later!

I’ve also had multiple Phoenix Hatchlings, but no snowy war chicken. Le sigh.

Good RNG happened last night.

Cleared all of Firelands and I picked up both the shoulder token and the helm token (We have no warriors or hunters and I’m the only shaman). Then with my saved up valor I was able to buy 2 tier pieces from the vendor. So in one night I went from 0 tier pieces for my offset to 4 piece tier. I was pretty happy.

Oh and the kitty staff finally dropped for our feral too, along with a bunch of nice trinkets. All around a good RNG night for everyone.

Well, my 3v3 arena team (with our two-month-old Disc Priest) is climbing up the ranks at a steady pace, now that I’ve finally convinced them to start playing more often than “once a week to get Conquest Points, and do RBGs the rest of the time”.

I admit, it’s disheartening that there are apparently 0 Enhancement Shamans on ArenaJunkies other than me, but meh, it seems to work pretty well for now.

Congrats on your tier bounty, Shin Kell!

Woohoo! Our guild got Heroic Rags last night! (Not me–it was our #1 raid team. Mine is #2, at 6/7 heroic and just barely starting heroic Rag). So now we’re the number #156 US guild.

Oh, and I finally got my Sulfuras last night, too. Darn Blood of the Mountains took forever to drop, but at long last I got all the mats. So now I have the matched set (Sulfuras and the one from Firelands Rags) and am now at four Legendaries (Shadowmourne, Thunderfury, Sulfuras and one Warglaive). I am a happy death knight.

Just started a new character - Worgen Warrior. I’m level 6, just made it to the first town, and I am locked in combat mode. I did the first two combat quests, and am in town, not in combat, but I can’t eat, equip, or even quit. I have to Alt-F4 to quit. I log back in, still in combat, even though there is no pulsing red around my character’s name in the corner. How do I fix this?

Joe

Open a ticket explaining the circumstances on a different character - if you have to alt-f4 to quit, something is rotten in Gilneas. Sounds like a GM issue. Give em all the details including the character’s name and so forth. It might take a while but they ought to be able to resolve it.

And belated grats, **Shin **and Infovore!

I’ll do that next time I’m on…

Joe

And it fixed itself. I was logged off for about 1.5 hours, and now it’s fine.

Joe

Being linkdead (which you are when you ALT-F4) for more than 5 minutes or so physically removes your character from the world and can often be used to solve those pesky stuck-in-combat issues.

His name is Wolkenlaufer (notice correct spelling), and he’s a Horde (!) Blood Elf Hunter. I’d have preferred a Nelf, but that race isn’t offered in the Horde tree.

We’re a level 4, so say hello sometime!

Thanks
