New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Hallow’s End starts today, with new content and the Headless Horseman mini-dungeon. I’ll be trying for the mount again, and maybe doing the quests to get the title on my Tankadin–already have it on the Mage and the Druid.

I’m actually looking forward to helping some of my buddies with this.

What is this “new content” of which you speak? Any different than previous Hallow’s Ends?

I predict I will not get the Horseman’s mount on any of my toons.

There are new quests, one of which either gives you a creepy crate or a black cat companion. Everything else is pretty much the same.

So far today I’ve gotten the mount on my hunter. My druid has gotten both the pet and the helm, not to mention Mojo from ZA. Today’s my lucky day, I think.

Well I won’t turn my nose up at another pet for my main, although he’s already got the black tabby cat I think.

Wow! Grats on both. I have the Squashling pet on all my major toons but my priest is the only one with the helmet (which he can’t wear). My wife is working tonight so I should be able to make a rare Tuesday night appearance and get some attempts in.

It’s not the black tabby–it’s called the “Feline Familiar” and it’s adorable! A black cat in a witch’s hat, and when you summon your flying mount, he mounts up on a little broom of his own and follows you! He costs 150 Tricky Treats and I will have him on at least two of my toons.

Well I had some time last night so after doing HH on my 85s (my main got a broomstick) I did the Creepy Crate questline on my main, who is the pet collector. I got “the Hallowed” title years ago, but I never bothered with any of the pumkins buckets on Northrend so I decided to knock out those and the new Cataclysm ones since I need the tricky treats to get the Feline Familiar and the rest of the masks I need. Also did a few of the dailies in UC.

I did about 2/3 of Northrend last night and I think I picked up 4 Sinister Squashilings, as well as two Hallowed Helms. The Helms are a bit of a pain because if you already own one, it won’t let you loot it; you have to discard the Handful of Candy it came in.

My achievement-addict main already had the title and all its stuff year before last, but the new pets and another chance at the flying fel horsie mount had me queueing for the HH and trick-or-treating all over Azeroth (except Northrend, yet). Wow, that’s a lot of travel.

HH dropped nothing of any real value for me, except for a few pieces of the candy that’s the currency for buying the seasonal tchotchkes like the pets. None of the epics would have been an unpgrade, and the healing ring dropped anyway (useless for a huntard).

So I tricked-or-treated all over Kalimdor, EK, and all of the Cataclysm zones. I must have thrown away 5 sinister squashlings, 3 hallowed helms, and I-stopped-counting penny bags. (WTF? 1-slot bag? that’s not even funny.)

But I got the “coin” to buy the kitty. Yaaay!

Tonight: another shot at His Headlessness and the rest of the trick-or-treating. I have the main thing I wanted out of this: the pets. I’m not holding out exceptional hope for the mount, although I won’t write it off out-of-hand either.

BTW, the “creepy box” pet from the quest chain is creepy. Watching it snatch up and eat the little critters around you is… I’m using this word too much… creepy.

I’m done with Hallow’s End! That is, my main toon who is the achievement- and pet-collector finished up all the related holiday achievements and collected enough treats to get the Familiar, so he’s done now (except for daily HH runs, just for a chance a the horse).

I may do the Creepy Crate questline on my other two main toons. But something weird is going on with my shammy - I have the quest that has you fly to the docks and check out the messenger’s cabin. As I fly out of Org I can see the ship waiting near the dock, but when I get closer it disappears! And then no matter where I go, it’s still gone when I come back. I’ll try abandoning the quest and picking it up again, but if that doesn’t work I may have to submit a ticket.

That area phases for the Vashj’ir quest line. If you remember, there are no ships at all at the dock to leave room for the mercenary ship that takes you out to the fun fun underwater action when you start that quest chain. The huge goblin transport only appears there after you phase that area. (I’m not sure if it’s before you take the cookie crumb for Vashj’ir; in fact, I don’t distinctly recall if the goblin ship is there before you start the Vashj’ir chain.)

I’m not saying that’s the cause of your specific issue, but that area is phased, and phasing bugs are exceedingly frustrating.

ETA: This has been noted in Wowhead comments. This quest is the one the comment talks about.

I can’t read Wowhead from here; do they confirm that problems with the holiday quest are related to Vash’jir phasing? I don’t think I did any Vash’jir quests on this toon but possibly I started the breadcrumbs which are supposed to lead me to an empty dock.

So. Blizzcon coverage. I’m not going to go into most of it, because I don’t want to be a spoiler-laden buffoon, but pay for a year, get the new Diablo and an awesome mount? I am so there. As soon as the site comes back up.

I took a look through the WoWhead comments and all I could see is that you shouldn’t have the “Call of Duty” quest or the quest dude wont’ show up. Maybe that’s it?

I know! I’ll have to talk myself into getting a years subscription, but the free mount and D3 are definitely swaying my thoughts.

Trailer for the next expansion is up at WoW Insider.

Details in spoiler box below:

Name-Mists of Pandaria

New Continent, appears to have an Asian look to buildings.

New Race–Pandarians. Not suprisingly, they look like pandas. I’m not kidding.

New Class–Monk. They show pandas balancing on one leg while standing on a pole. I’m guessing a martial arts DPS class. Maybe Tanking too?

Level limit raised to 90.

Challenge Dungeons–no info

Pet Battles–no info

New Talent system–no info

PVE scenarios–no info.

That has to be a hoax. Kung fu pandas? Seriously?

Yeah, I thought for Asian cultural reasons they’ve repeatedly said no way to Pandas as a playable or even NPC race.

I hope other joke units from WC3 become races. The horde could really use hydralisks.

Quite possibly. I’ll check when I get home tonight. Abandoning that quest would be no problem.

Yeah, not cool with the pandaren thing…but I already signed up for the 12-month subscription anyway.

Basically, you commit to 12 months (billable monthly as per usual) and you get Diablo III free, a purty new Tyrael mount and expansion beta access.

Someone said it would be awesome if Pandaren was discovered because Azshara needed something from their island/ocean around it. I think that would be amazing.

Anyway, Samwise is jizzing in his pants right now anyway, his little joke is making the big time.
