New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Got to do the first of the three dungeons last night on my hunter, and all three of them today on my warlock. I lucked out on my 'lock in that my friend, who’s a really good healer, brought me along. I also lucked out in that the shoulders dropped from the Archbishop, which, along with the quest rewards, gave me Cataclysmically Epic (I know the helm isn’t great for DPS casters, but it’s still better than my 346 helm).

Frankly, I’m okay with it being less challenging. I like the mechanics on the fights (especially on Murozond–it’s just plain old fun to repeatedly pop cooldowns, though not all of the ones on my 'lock reset). They’re a lot more intuitive than some of the ones in the troll dungeons–and, frankly, intuitive is good, as far as I’m concerned. There also isn’t a bunch of stupid insane trash. I like fun in my 5-mans; when I want to do something hard, I’ll raid. These were also notably quicker than the troll dungeons, though I haven’t done any since the patch, so they’re probably quicker now.

I agree 100% Angel. I’ve run through all three of them now, and they’re all a lot of fun. There aren’t any bizarre mechanics to any of the fights of the sort that drive me crazy ("…now in phase 2 everyone has to hop backward for 17 seconds…")

I even screwed up my courage enough to queue with my paladin as a tank for one of the new dungeons, which I don’t do very often (I figured, hey, everyone’s starting from square one with these new dungeons, so I can’t be any worse than any other tank  ).

The only fight that seems at all difficult (the only one I’ve seen a group wipe on) is the fight against Azshara in the Well of Eternity. That puppeting she does can be difficult to handle if you don’t know about it (and we didn’t, since it was everyone’s first time).

While hunting for Low’raki’s mates in Un’goro last night, my goblin rogue, Dieshorribly, stumbled across a Matriarch’s Nest! The ravasaur hatchling is soooo cute!

I only had time to do the first of the new 5-mans so far. Agree that Murozond is fun - I like being able to use my Guardian and bubble so many times in one fight.

Nothing dropped for me, though, and the quest givers couldn’t bother with caster plate either. Oh well.

I gotta admit I find the new 5-man content a little TOO easy (I was expecting something akin to Halls of Reflection), but I did enjoy the fact that most of the mechanics were pretty intuitive (except for Jaina’s flamecores). Plus, I got a cloak drop from Sylvanas for my enhancement self, and some gloves for a quest reward that I can’t use yet because my set bonus from T11 is too good to break (which should tell you how I spent my time in the last tier, along with my equipped 382 avg ilvl in PvP gear).

I got into an LFR for the Siege of Wyrmrest Temple and stuck with it for the duration and won the roll to get the paladin token to get my first Tier12 item Battleplate of Radiant Glory.

As you can see all are out of date, right?

But Curse says all the ones on my list with THEM are up to date, so I don’t know what’s wrong and I miss those add-ons I use, such as Postal, Flight Timer etc, etc.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks

Well I tried fire on my mage yesterday in FL and wow did my dps drop like a rock! Even with the 2pc T13. Maybe my rotation was a bit slow, so if I try it again, I’ll have to work out on the dummies first.
I’m waiting for worldoflogs to tell me what the top dpsers are using. (and then dropping to the middle of the pack and seeing what they’re using.)

I’m gonna have to go back and read the new patch notes. I haven’t played much since the patch - just the first 5-man on my pally and that’s it - but I noticed that some of the pally healing spells have changed. For example Holy Radiance seems to be ranged now and have a cast time? It also seems like there was another ability that had a cooldown that didn’t have one before.

I had 20 minutes to play last night so I joined a random BG and ended up in an epic WSG battle. Unfortunately we lost 1-0 when they capped our flag with about two minutes left in the game.

I did a nice LFR with two of my guildies yesterday. Each of them got two drops, I got bupkis.

On the other hand, I replaced both of my weapons with 5-Man Hour of Twilight gear, so that’s good.

Now I just need the enchant market to settle back down…

So my guild tried out normal 10-man Dragonsoul last night. It was pretty fun, not as face-rolly as LFR. We one-shot first boss (ez-mode). Wiped twice on skittles boss before geting him (pretty fun fight imo). And put in some quality attempts on volleyball boss (including one were we got him to 8%). Fun night of raiding imo.

Disclaimer: my guild is pretty casual, we were 7/7 normal mode and 0/7 heroic in Firelands… and our first Rag kill only came on November 3rd.

On a side note my Scroll of Enchant Weapon - Landslide are selling like hotcakes and i topped 40K gold for the first time ever last night, and i’m well on my way to 50K!!! Though i realize this is chump change to the real AH players, as my rich guildy told me he made 50K gold yesterday alone…

Yeah, the easy-mode loot is making for crazy AH prices on enchants, jewels, and enchanting mats. Good times!

Warmaster Blackthorn down! My group is now 6/8 and making good progress on Spine of Deathwing, though our DPS (in mostly heroic FL gear) was a little low to get the tendons down reliably. By the end of the night we were getting the first one down about 75% of the time and failing miserably on the second one. I think we’re going to try 2-healing and having our priest go Shadow, and see if that doesn’t help things. Fun fight, though! Making enormous dragons do barrel rolls is amusing.

As predicted, our guild’s first-string raid team is now 8/8.

I think I’m going to give LFR a try this weekend to see if it really is as face-rolly as everybody’s saying it is. I was really hesitant to do it because a group of 25 random people trying to accomplish anything seems like my personal definition of Hell, but maybe it’s not as bad as I feared it would be.

I just unloaded my entire guild bank’s supply of enchant mats myself, in order to get enough of a nest egg up to start playing with the bigger boys on the AH.

Congrats on the progress!

As for LFR, i think the key is you have to be lucky and at least have an experienced raid leader that can do the minimum amount of coordination that is required for those first 4 bosses… and have a group of people willing to follow that person.

Also, i queued on the first day, and with a gearscore requirement of 372, the only people that were gonna have access on the first day ***most likely ***had some significant experience in Firelands i would think. A week later… with access to gear from the new heroics… this might change for the worse.

What I finally did about my add-ons, is: I went back to Curse and downloaded some which were close to the ones which aren’t useable. So I do have a few now that work.

One I like espeically is one which lets you know which button would be best to click in a combat sequence. It makes the action bar buttons really light up, so it’s easy to see.

And I of course found a substitute for Postal, which now opens all my mail at once.

And “Crap Away”…

Thanks

… is what Arcane Alex said to me tonight as I left Dalaran by Taxi Gryph.

Isn’t that the strangest thing? The only NPC’s ever to call me by name have been questgivers, not guys just standing around. And then there’s been the odd player who recognized me from that 15 minutes of Fame article and we chat for a minute or so, but this is new to me.

Thanks

Q

Many of the NPCs in Dalaran (and some of the other Wrath factions) will say something like that to your character if you are exalted with their faction.

Oh, okay. Well, I reached exalted with the Kirin people, so that must be it.

Thanks, aktep

That’s exactly what happened in my LFR back on Wednesday night.

You are right about the “most likely” part; I had 380 gearscore with only 2 Shannox kills before the LFR. Last night, I DOUBLED my FL experience by helping Bird’s guild take out Baleroc and Staghelm.

I swear, I’m probably the best geared non-raider out there.
