As an aside to the current conversations, I am non-specifically irritated by the practice of progression guilds hammering on new content on the PTR and then blitzing it immediately as soon as it goes live on the normal realms.
Why? The PTR is available to anyone who wants to go through the trouble of downloading it and dealing with all the crashes and hangs and inopportune server shutdowns and all the other mysterious ailments that you get when testing not-ready-for-prime-time software. If progression guilds want to get a head start by getting familiar with the raids there, why not? If Blizz didn’t want them to do it, they’d do all their testing internally.
Me, I think it’s kind of a pain. I did a little PTR stuff but nothing like the hardcore “A team” progression group in our guild. And we had several folks on our teams who didn’t want to PTR at all because they wanted to enjoy the content fresh. That’s fine too. Whatever’s fun for you.
Because it non-specifically irritates me. I felt the same way about people in EVE who use the test realm to risk-free try out new ship loadouts and tactics.
It offends my “play the damn game!” sensibilities. Bad enough the “realm first” achievements exist, but making it essentially required to slog through meta-gamey bullshit if you want a prayer at getting one is just ridiculous.
I see both sides. If pushing to be Realm-First or be a highly ranked guild is what is fun for you then go for it. Practicing on the test-realm certainly isn’t against the rules, and it actually does a service to Blizzard by helping them test.
But doing all your progression raiding on the test-realm encounters so you can hurry up and clear everything on go-live day just doesn’t *feel *right. It’s like you aren’t even playing the game any more, just going through the motions.
i don’t know… playing on the PTR holds zero appeal to me, so my opinion is skewed towards that end i guess.
Ilvl 384 (Ruthless), afaik. I tried to click on the Glorious Conquest vendor, but I got the cold shoulder from her.
You can now get 100 Conquest points per Random Battleground, per day, which now would make a sizable dent in your weekly maximum if you did it every day.
And now I realized that the arenas and rated battlegrounds have closed for Season 10…and I guess Season 11 will start next week. Correct?
I was worried last night I was going to get shit for not having done the new dungeons on the PTR. It was weird, most of the party were tagged as not having downed the bosses yet, but I was the only one saying I’d never done them before, so I assume everyone else PTRed it.
I’m fixin’ to log back in hoping I don’t have the same lockup problems I had last night.
Q
Did you check if your add-ons had updates ready for the new patch, Quasi? I had the same problem logging in this afternoon, then saw that there were 14 updates on my add-ons. I updated them all and had no problem getting in then.
Still can’t get in, jay. Task Manager says “WoW not responding”. I did all the add-on updates last night, but let me try again…
Q
Got past the ‘Enter World’ screen, but then the next screen froze and I had to CTRL ALT DEL out and go to Task Manager which told me again, “WoW not responding”.
Q
Make sure you do not have “Load out of date addons” checked. There’s one or two that’s causing WoW to completely freeze (Carbonite is one of them, I think).
The game is letting me into the world, but then the whole screen freezes, and I can’t get out of it to go ANYWHERE, even if I hit the windows key. I have to go to Task Manager and click my way out and restart the whole computer. Currently, Wolkie is frozen in Dal.
One thing I have noticed: You know that blue line which crawls toward the right to open the game? Well, now there’s ANOTHER, narrower blue line right below that one which flashes on and off.
Thanks

Headrush,
That worked, thanks very much!

I’ve been having a lot of fun in the new 5 mans and the LFR. Except for the fact I can’t win a roll to save my life.
The bosses in the LFR are pretty easy as long as one person doesn’t mind doing Raid Warnings, so far the only real challenge is the skittles boss (I’m bad at names Yhjksa the Unsleeping?). Then again it’s only the second day, once people get the rhythm down I’m sure the LFR will be just like BH/VoA in terms of loot pinata’s. We can only do the first four right now, but I expect the second half to be open next week or the week after.
5 mans are fun, but I can see them getting old pretty fast. At least they’re really short, then again so are the Zandalari’s now that you can skip quite a few bosses.
Won’t step foot into the “real” Dragon Soul until tomorrow, my new raid group decided to take Tuesday off due to some real life stuff and the fact that patch days are pretty buggy. Looking forward to tanking again!
And in keeping with my tradition, I’ve redone my UI for the new raid tier. Happy is me!
Carbonite isn’t; I’ve been running it, and the only problem I’ve had with it is that it no longer tracks. I did have problems at first, but that was getting out of the launcher.
Tyrael’s Charger + Shadowform = One gorgeous looking mount.
I’ve never understood what’s supposed to be attractive about shadowform, myself.
Also, happiness is drawing Sylvanas in End Time and annihilating her.
First night into DS went quite well. My group is now 5/8 after 3 hours of raiding. I’m hoping we can get at least two more down tonight. A full clear would be really cool, but I’ll be happy with 7/8 for our first week. Sure beats the hell out of our first week in FL, where I think we might have gotten one boss down.
We didn’t have any trouble with any of the bosses. We were told Ultraxion was supposed to be a gear check, but we killed him with about a minute to spare on the enrage timer and, though we did use the “do over” ability, we really didn’t need to. I think that one is going to be tough on groups with only non-heroic gear for awhile, though. It’s pretty intense healing wise. Fun to tank, though.
For “The Kinghts Who Say ‘Ja’”: I’ll be on tonight around 6-7 ET. Hope you’re feeling better, jay.
Thanks
